Dirty Pucker: a grumpy sunshine hockey romance (Denver Bashers Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 327 ratings

I’m the most hated player in the NHL. I’m famous for fighting dirty, and it’s earned me a nickname: Dirty Del.

When I get traded to the Denver Bashers, I’m told to clean up my act.

The team’s social media girl, Ingrid, is helping me sweeten my public image. She’s everything I’m not: bubbly and likable with a sunshine smile.

She’s also stunningly beautiful–and totally off limits. Her cousin–my teammate–hates my guts and warned me to stay away from her.

But the more time we spend working together, the more I like Ingrid. When I open up to her about my darkest secret, she makes me feel comforted and supported. And when she tells me about the terrible way her ex treated her, I’m determined to spoil her in every way…in and out of the bedroom.

It’s not long before I start to catch feels.

I need to focus on my career. I don’t need any distractions, especially not a relationship.

But I’m falling hard for this beautiful sunshine girl.

Dirty Pucker is a pro hockey grumpy sunshine romance with an HEA. It is book 2 in the Denver Bashers series but can be read as a standalone.

Great chemistry!
4 out of 5 stars
Great chemistry!
*3.75⭐️ This book was cute! It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, it was a fun read, which was exactly what I needed during this week! I didn’t really know what to think about Del going into this book, but he definitely grew on me! I really liked how he clearly grew as a person and learned to own up to his mistakes. It was also great to see him growing to trust others. I related a lot to Ingrid! I have a similar job, so it was fun to see it portrayed in a book! I also loved how she immediately saw Del for the person he actually is and she was willing to give him a chance and learn his character for herself. Their chemistry was instant and great! And I loved how their attraction grew into a friendship that made for a good foundation for a relationship!

Deep emotions, gently and healthily handled, are kind of my weakness, and healthy relationships are my kink, so this story definitely satisfied on every level. Colorful descriptions add depth and submersion to the story, but it was really the non-repetitive word choices and attention to describing detail that pushed this book onto my "Books I've Loved" list. I loved the strong FMC and MMC who were pretty evenly matched, both in wits and social status, him being an infamous NHL player and her being a heiress and famous social media Influencer. And while the NHL players are hot, the sex scenes are on fire.

Now, this is my CW/TW warning: be aware that this story blatantly addresses child abuse, spouse abuse, domestic violence, divorce, alcoholism, drunk driving, stalking, psychological trauma, and contains some mild (to me, but proceed with caution if you're sensitive to it) descriptions of violence at a pretty surface level- nothing more graphic than a typical NHL fight. There is also talk of sexual assault, though it never occurs in the story. As someone who's experienced some form of sexual assault, it hit my emotions for sure but it didn't trigger any anxiety in me, I think in large part because I felt like the situation(s) were handled with the proper gravity, and that Smith did a good job of "resolving" the scene(s).
I'll continue with a warning for those sensitive to less frequently identified triggers that this story deals with: questions of self worth and on page portrayal of low self esteem, being invalidated and ridiculed by a partner (in the past), marriage between a young woman barely out of high school and an older man who uses his experience to manipulate her, big anxiety over potentially life changing decisions that are out of the character's control, and mentions of a sex tape.

I apologize if I missed any TWs or CWs, your concerns are valid as well.

This book was such a fun read! This was my first Sarah Smith book, so I actually wasn’t sure what to expect! But I love Del he is absolutely the best, I am all for a bad boy who’s good for the right girl! I adored Ingrid she is strong, kind and gives off the best type of sunshine vibe! There were a ton of layers to this book, we got good back ground info and all around just a really solid book! There was a ton of good spice and it was really fun watching these two make their way until it all came to that epic breaking point!! Throughly enjoyed and highly recommend to everyone! Can’t wait to go back and read book 1 and excited for book 3 to come out!!

When Del’s dad comes back into the picture to threaten his mom again, Del gets traded to Denver to be closer and protect his mom and sister. Known for fighting dirty on the ice, ‘Dirty Del’ has earned his reputation and his new teammates are less than thrilled to have him. His new coach demands Del clean up his act if he wants to stay in Denver. Enter Ingrid, the team’s new social media expert, who is determined to help Del revamp his image.

Del and Ingrid definitely have chemistry (the last 25% of the book includes a LOT of spice) but they are also extremely supportive of each other. And while Del may be aggressive on the ice, he’s surprisingly sweet and protective with those he cares about. Case in point, running to get Ingrid all the essentials when she has her period. Though Del’s character is well rounded, Ingrid feels one-dimensional most of the time. The reader learns very little about her, yet is expected to be sympathetic when people don’t take her seriously.

The one detail that left me confused: why Del didn’t get a security system (or at least camera!) for his mom? We know he had the means, since he paid off her mortgage, so it felt like a missed opportunity to hold his dad accountable.

Overall, Dirty Pucker is a fast-paced, steamy hockey romance that’s an easy read. It is worth noting that it does cover serious topics like domestic abuse.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love hockey romance

I picked up a Sports romance after so long and this book reminded me why I love it so much. The flow was so good, I read it in one sitting. I devoured it!!!!!

This story is about Del and Ingrid, Del is a famous NHL player who recently got transferred to a new team and everyone hates him there, because of his dirty playing image on ice whereas Ingrid is the social media manager of Del's new team, She is the only one who gives him a warm welcome. She tries to help him rebuild his image and showed his fans how caring and kind he is, off the ice. She is also off limits because her Cousin is one of the team player of Del's and he hates him too.

This was so heartwarming and smooth read.
I loved Del and Ingrid so much, the way Ingrid helped Del all the way through and never gave up on him and the way Del kept doing these small small things for her which meant a lot to Ingrid. They found each other too hard to resist from the start and it was the same case for me😩❤ The spice was spicing, him taking care of Ingrid during period and assuring her every time when she Dow plays her job and career is my favorite thing about them.
They were so cute and sizzling hot at the same time✨
As we know with hockey we always gets the found family trope so it was fun to see these guys bond with each other and become ride and die bros at the end.

just add it to TBR already it's going to make you swoon, laugh and cry(with happy tears).

Thank you so much @authorsarahs for an Early Advance readers copy❤😭
    I loved it sooooooo much✨
