Disorder: A High School Bully Romance (Hawthorn Academy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 372 ratings

I knew that a scholarship to Hawthorn Academy would change my life.

The scholarship gets me away from a Mother who doesn’t love me, an alcoholic Step-Father I despise, and a life filled with no meaning. At the Academy, I can make something of myself. Become the person I’ve always wanted to be; the person I’m destined to be.

But I never imagined that things would be worse for me here.
That
The Sect and The Set rule the school.

Literally.
They have a list of five rules that all must obey or face the dire consequences.

Then there is Him.
The forbidden fruit.
The Beast I’ve been warned away from.
The boy I feel a connection to, yet know that I shouldn’t.

Hawthorn Academy isn’t anything like I’d expected.
It’s clear that I’m in danger.
That somebody is out to harm me.

I just need to survive the next two years here.
How hard can that be?

Disorder is book one in the Hawthorn Academy Series. It is a high school bully romance and contains themes that some readers might find uncomfortable. This book is a part of a trilogy and is NOT a standalone.
This book was previously published under the same title in February 2021, but has had a complete rewrite since. This is the second edition.

I happened upon this book by chance, in a Facebook group. I am thrilled that I did. I was sucked in to this story from the second I began reading. I loved every bit of the drama, angst, pain, and happiness. I am off to read book 2.

    4.5 stars!

But I’d sold my heart to a beast, and I didn’t think I’d get it back at this rate.

This book grabbed me from the beginning. Disorder is Katie’s debut novel, and I’m already hooked with everything she has to offer. Katie’s writing style, the way she wrote, her grammar and punctuation, and word usage was different from what I’ve normally read, and I’m obsessed. There’s so much to unpack, I don’t even know where to start! But, it’s all good things.

I loved the fact that this wasn’t the usual bully romance and it’s definitely something I wanna read more of. The dedication of the characters bullying towards Sky was so sad but so intriguing to read. The amount of mystery in this book will keep you at the edge of your seat. You’re always coming up with theories and honestly, that's one of my favorite things to do; unpacking a story and trying to piece it together.

Skyler is a girl who is relatable. I loved how she wasn’t naive, but because she was so excluded from having a regular social life, she didn’t know exactly what to do in situations. Sky is a girl that wanted friends, to be liked and loved, so she kind of let certain things happen, but wasn’t dumb. She always pointed out the wrong, but usually only to herself.

Ollie. Man, I don’t even know where to start with him. You never knew what he was thinking. I loved the fact that we didn’t read any of his POV till the end. You didn’t know what his intentions were. You weren't able to figure out his friends, Griff and Leo, either. But, Ollie is that bad boy mysterious alpha with an attitude problem that you just fall for anyways.

Just like with the main characters, the side characters were some of the best I've read. Clover understood exactly what Skyler was going through with her bad homelife and the bullying, so their friendship was instant. Leo and Griff were just as mysterious as Ollie. One minute you feel a genuine connection between Sky and them, and the next makes you think the opposite with everything happening. There’s so many double standards and hypocrisy that leaves you thinking about them.

I had a feeling this was going to end with a plot twist and a cliffhanger. But I didn’t know HOW. And man, it gets you, that's for sure. Throughout the whole book, something keeps happening to Sky, and you’re left with the mystery of the who and the why. It ends with you needing more and has your heart pounding near the end. Also, I loved the Mean Girl vibes mixed with a little Gossip Girl. The only thing I didn’t like was the pace of the book: it was fast then slow, but still kept me hooked. This is definitely worth the read for anyone needing some drama, mystery, and romance.

I am a sucker for an academy book, add on the bully aspect of it, and I am sold. This is the author's debut book and looks to be a four book series. It took a minute for me to get my bearings for this book since it is written in British English.

Hawthorne Academy has two ruling groups, The Set and The Sect. Sky is a scholarship student and of course, the two groups take interest in her. There are secrets and lies and suspense around every corner of this book. I thought I had things figured out and then I started to get thrown for a loop during several parts.

Everyone is a suspect. I don't know who Sky should trust, because I sure don't trust anyone. Who is telling the truth? Who is faithful? Who is out to ruin Sky? I feel like some questions were answered, but I have way more than what I started with.

The book does end on a cliffhanger that I did not see coming, but it looks like book two, Disease, will be out in May!

This book was a head scratcher from the prolog that is part of the actual story, to the very end. Is there a book somewhere that explains what happened and why he hates her so much? Will the second book explain more as to why Oliver did the horrible crap to her from the beginning? So many questions and no answers.

First book to be read by the author Katie Lowrie. This was a fantastic read. I loved the suspension, the intensity of trying to figure out who was hurting stutter. However, what kept this from receiving 5 stars was how annoying the heroine was. She was incredibly naive, she never fought back it was kind if disappointing. I do look forward to book two.

2.6 stars. This book was ok got stale for awhile, but the ending was bad. If it was supposed to leave on a cliff hanger, it didn't, it just was sad, confusing did not make any sense and just frustrated me. I will not continue on it wasn't enough to get me to continue. Family, drama, bullying, sex swearing and backstabbing & murder... Gina

Admittedly this isn't the genre I usually go for but the premise sounded really intriguing and I wanted to know who the SET and SECT were. Katie's social media campaign got me hooked before I even started it and I was not disappointed, I got so invested in the story and grew to enjoy the bully romance trope alot haha. So much so that I keep reading these genres! This is a story where you cannot trust a single character, the twist at the end left me speechless, what a cliffhanger!! I'm desperate to know where the story is going to know and what is going to happen to sky!!! Great debut Katie, I can't wait to read Disease.

I'll be honest, I'm not a book buff but this book has me hooked! I'm just over half way through and I love the characters and the school setting definitely has me feeling nostalgic. The story is engaging and I can't wait to see how this book ends and how it leaves the characters lined up for the next book. Hats off to Katie for creating such an engaging new world!

I could not wait to finish this book. So many contradictions, so many times things happened but nothing was mentioned after. Okay someone tried to kill me but hey oh let’s go to sleep and carry on like normal. The main female character got on my last nerves. Best friend please, heroine please. Sure she might have been desperate for friends but come on. I rolled my eyes so much I thought they might get stuck. I mean I could go on. I have never rated a book one before. Gosh I’m in need of a really good book. Don’t waste your time!
