Duke of Disguise (Ladies of Worth series Book 4) Kindle Edition
A guarded mistress from the streets of Paris. An English noble with a broken heart.
Paris, 1776: Lord Avers is not going to fall in love. Not again. Still recovering from his only foray into that treacherous domain, he happily accepts a distraction—helping his friend Wakeford ferret out a leak in the British envoy’s Parisian offices. Posing as the long-absent Duke of Tremaine, he attempts to befriend the Comte de Vergelles and infiltrate his spy ring to determine how they’re stealing secrets.
Emilie Cadeaux has risen from the gutters of Paris to become a well-known actress and a contender for the position of mistress to the powerful Comte de Vergelles. Playing a careful game with the deck stacked against her, she knows the freedom she has worked all her life for is teetering on the precipice of being lost forever.
The arrival of the obnoxious and judgemental Duke of Tremaine into the Comte’s circle adds a new complication to Emilie’s world. His inquisitive questions and coincidental meetings go from irritating to intriguing, and soon she suspects the Duke is not all he seems.
From the shimmering salons of 18th century Paris to the dangers of political London, the fourth instalment in the Ladies of Worth series sees Avers and Emilie swept up into a world of spy rings, cyphers and smuggling—as they try to resist a growing attraction to each other.
Will Avers choose to risk his heart again before it’s too late? And will Emilie choose to do what’s right even if it threatens her freedom?

'The author creates spell binding suspense with intrigue and danger wrapped up within a romance.' - Luci, Amazon reviewer'It’s damsel in distress vibes but she’s too proud to ask for help, but there’s a soft boy with a penchant for boxing who DOESN’T MISS A BEAT. Looks are exchanged, hand touches are made, we have a ‘he did this to you?’, we have a ‘her dog hates everyone but him’ (a newbie trope but I’m a fan😅), we have villains, we have intrigue, danger (like life or death level guys), we have suspense with a capital S. It’s gripping, it’s slow burn, it’s PLOT DRIVEN 😱 this is not a drill!!' - Shay Jones, Amazon reviewer

- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2024This story is the fourth in the series and a standalone, but it was the first for me and I am hooked! I am going to read the first three now!
The author creates spell binding suspense with intrigue and danger wrapped up within a romance.
Strong hero and heroine with equally intense villains to keep the reader engaged.
I recommend the book.
I received an ARC copy of the book and all opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2025Amazing read - it kept me hooked. There's intrigue and romance and some pride and prejudice vibes. It was clean and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2024This was my first introduction to Philippa Jane Keyworth. If the rest of her books are as enjoyable and well thought out as Duke of Disguise, I will be looking forward to many more hours of enjoyable reading.
This book grabbed my interest from the very beginning. I love a strong woman heroine and Emilie Cadeaux was all that and more; who can resist an intelligent, beautiful woman with a heart of gold. Her generosity was extended to a little mutt she rescued off the streets and by helping friends in her old neighborhood.
Our hero, Lord Avers was handsome, charming, intelligent and smart enough to realize there was more to Emilie than just a pretty face.
Our villain, Comte de Vergelles was the kind of man you love to root against and hope he gets what he deserves (he did)!
In the end, I wasn’t sure if Lord Travers would be able to overlook Emilie’s past; a former actress and assumed mistress of the Comte. I cheered when they were both forgiving of each other’s faults and love prevailed,
This book had it all, strong characters, intrigue, love and redemption. I enjoy historical fiction and our author included a brief history into places and people mentioned.
I was lucky enough to receive a free ARC copy of this book. Thank you Philippa Jane Keyworth for a great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2024Amazing descriptions; the author crafts vivid images and brings the scenes to life. I love finding out how the good "guys" win and the path the adventure takes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unputdownable Regency Romance!
Consider me unslumped! Read this one in a day, it was so unputdownable!
It’s damsel in distress vibes but she’s too proud to ask for help, but there’s a soft boy with a penchant for boxing who DOESN’T MISS A BEAT.
Looks are exchanged, hand touches are made, we have a ‘he did this to you?’, we have a ‘her dog hates everyone but him’ (a newbie trope but I’m a fan😅), we have villains, we have intrigue, danger (like life or death level guys), we have suspense with a capital S.
It’s gripping, it’s slow burn, it’s PLOT DRIVEN 😱 this is not a drill!!
After so many badass ‘I can do it myself’ FMCs (no shade) it was actually nice to have a knight in shining, Georgian, armour do it for a change. It’s a romance staple for a reason and I’m all aboard.
I was expecting a cosy regency romance but I was suddenly embroiled in a French scandal, (although London does feature 👀) and I bloody loved every second.
Bravo 🥂👏

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn’t put this book down - it was so good.
I bought this for the kindle app as a pre order as I couldn’t wait to read Philippa Jane Keyworth’s new book.
It didn’t disappoint and I was gripped from beginning to end.
My love of historical romances started with Georgette Heyer and Philippa’s books are of the same excellent writing style and story quality.
I’m excited for the next one!
