    This is a pretty faithful retelling of Disney's animated version of Beauty and the Beast, complete with versions of Mrs Pot's and Mr Cogsworth. Nearly scene for scene with the differences being instead of magic and wolves and a curse we have a genetic disorder, mafia men etc... there is a lot of steam once the slow burn ends.

    I generally like this author. I have read a lot of Jagger Cole books and enjoy them for the most part. I will say this one felt a little disjointed at times for me, I went back reread certain passages or pages because sometimes the things said didn't quite make sense... example there is a scene where the main male character is performing oral sex and simultaneously rubbing his *appendage* on the females thighs that just didn't seem anatomically or physically possible... I reread it three times thinking I was skipping words or missing something. Also continuity issues at times. The main female character has been isolated and raised in a convent and is not only virginal but even inexperienced with modern technology like cell phones... it is assumed she has not watched much television or listened to modern music or seen much of modern life... yet she's able to steal a car and drive it, use its GPS, make sarcastic quips and comments with current slang, etc... the length of time she is in the castle is brief and not filled with television watching or socializing yet she has a type of character growth and awareness that doesn't match up. Last there is very little dialog for much of the book between the two main characters so it was hard for me to believe in the sudden feelings they had for each other. Their relationship felt superficial to me.

    Having said that, this is a retelling of a fairytale and fairytales generally don't go super deep and detailed in terms of dialog and complex relationship stuff...therefore there is technically nothing wrong with the way this was written. Beauty and the Beast is a much beloved story for a reason. If you are a sucker for that trope this book will be right up your alley.

    Oliver Prince has locked himself away in his gothic castle since a fire killed his son and injured him. He is slowly dying from an incurable illness that causes him to turn into a monster. There might be a cure and he has captured the man who took it from him.

    Rose Carson has grown up in a convent where she was left after her mother gave birth to her. Suddenly, her birth father comes to the convent and whisks her away into his life in the upper crust of London.

    Her father calls her pleading for her to rescue him from the man who has imprisoned him. When she arrives, she comes face to face with the most sinfully handsome man she has ever seen. He takes her as collateral for her father, sending him out to get the company back for him that holds the cure for his disease.

    They both feel the sinful attraction between them. Oliver has never seen a woman as beautiful and as obviously innocent as Rose. Rose is innocent, but Oliver makes her feel things she has never felt before.

    If your a fan of the Beauty and the Beast story line with a spicy twist this is the story for you! It is so well done to not only be true to the beast in Oliver, but the Rose that is his only hope. I could not put this book down, it sucked me in and made me fall for the Beast even though I hated him at first. The details added that I knew were coming were still a surprise and fun. That to me is doing a trope not only to make it happen, but doing it well. Bravo!
