Spring Breeze Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 27 ratings

Paris, June 1940. The enemy has entered the city and Matilde Pascale hopes to sink into the shadows for the entirety of the war. However, when tragedy strikes it changes everything and Matilde focuses on revenge in order to fight back against the Nazis and their heinous crimes against humanity. But life sometimes takes a bizarre twist and it seems that love has a way of infiltrating the most impenetrable of boundaries. A common purpose drives two enemies into each other’s arms and together they discover the capacity of their combined strength.

"... this will become a much cherished book."

“This is a stunning and powerful story – one of those books that you’ll never forget. I was so wrapped up in it that when I’d finished reading, I felt lost.”

"Five stars without a doubt."

“This was a book I couldn’t put down. It works well on so many levels. The slow seeds of resistance in Operation Breeze grow stronger and stronger and we are presented with conflict and knife-edge moments a-plenty.”

“The courage of ordinary people is powerfully portrayed in this story. There are also some twists which I didn’t see coming […] Angela Barton is a very creative lady and I liked the way her painterly descriptions fitted one of the main themes of the story: art theft.”

Why not read Angela Barton's previous books?

Arlette's Story: Historical fiction set during WW2 in south-west France.
Arlette Blaise lives on her family’s idyllic farm, but when German soldiers take over a nearby manor, she realises her peaceful existence is lost. By navigating terrible obstacles, can Arlette find the courage to fight back against the enemy in order to protect the ones she loves?

"The characters feel so real you can feel their breath on your face."

Magnolia House: Contemporary women's fiction set in London and France.
When Rowan’s picture-perfect life comes crashing down around her, she's faced with the prospect of having to start again.
To make ends meet she begins a search for housemates, and in doing so opens the door to new friends and new beginnings. But could she be opening the door to new heartbreak too?
"This book is outstanding. I can honestly say it's one of the best books I've read this year." (2021)

You've Got My Number: Contemporary women's fiction set in a small English village and the rugged coast of Cornwall.
They say that eavesdroppers seldom hear any good about themselves, so when Blake overhears his name mentioned in a conversation, he decides to tell a lie. A lie that grows and spreads until it begins to affect the lives and loves of those around him.
"I loved, loved, loved this book."

Hi, I'm Angela and welcome to my author page. I was born in London but grew up in Nottingham, and although I've lived in Saudi Arabia and France, England always pulls me back.

When I'm not reading or writing, I can usually be found playing with air-drying clay, making miniature book earrings. I'm simply obsessed with books: their feel, their smell, their stories, their covers... I could very happily spend a whole day in Waterstones – I'm the strange woman sniffing books in the corner! Thankfully, I haven't been forcibly removed. Yet.

I'm passionate about writing both contemporary and historical fiction and love time spent researching. In 2018 I signed publishing contracts for three novels with Choc Lit’s new imprint, Ruby Fiction.

I'm a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and a reader for their New Writers’ Scheme. I'm also a member of Nottingham Writers’ Studio, the Society of Authors and Ellipses and Ampersands’ fiction critique group.

If you've purchased Arlette's Story, Magnolia House, or You've Got My Number, I'm very grateful.

Thank you very much. xx

Matilde and her husband live in Paris during the Nazi occupation. One day her husband is captured and her life is changed forever. She starts working with a German officer cataloging priceless art and jewelry. She starts to have feelings for the officer but is determined to do her part for the resistance.
Matilde is a strong woman living during impossible circumstances.
It’s a good story and makes you think about if you could do what so many did during the war.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched and evocative.

Spring Breeze is a WWII historical novel set in Paris during the German occupation. The story follows Matilde, who initially appears naive and eager to keep a low profile. However, when Matilde’s circumstances change, she determines to fight the enemy in any way she can. The narrative captures Matilde’s transformation from a passive bystander to a determined and resilient fighter, facing the horrors of war alongside her fellow countrymen with unyielding strength.

Central to the story is the forbidden love between Matilde and Hans, a German soldier who, despite loving his country, abhors the war and its atrocities. Their bond, forged over their attraction, shared love of art, and mutual sense of injustice, is fraught with danger and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. I enjoyed discovering more about each of them as their characters developed through the story. Spring Breeze is an evocative, well-researched novel that shows the horrors of war and its impact on ordinary people who are thrown into extraordinary circumstances.

Well researched and beautifully written, this is a gripping novel that tells of atrocities during the Nazi invasion of Paris during WWII. I was absorbed in this book from the first page and found it hard to put it down with carefully crafted characters that I, as a reader, found fascinating. The story is powerful, and I thought about it when not reading it. The author has a remarkable ability to combine fiction and factual history with a compelling chronicle of events. It's a five-star read, and I highly recommend it.

This was a recommendation having never read her books before. The characters came alive with such historical description of each situation there were times when I was on edge not knowing where the story was going. My emotions we with the characters up and down. It highlighted the bravery of those who knew persecution by race was wrong. Read this in 4 days ! The book is slightly bigger than standard which is easier to hold and the print size made it a comfortable read. Now going to order Angela Barton's other books.

Having read Angela’s previous books this is her best, she has written a wonderful rich tapestry of words bringing war torn Paris to life. All the characters are engaging and I found myself wanting them to succeed and survive everything they had to endure.
