First, I should warn you that this review is very long. My longest review ever! There was just so much I had to say. But fear not, This review is SPOILER FREE! So take a deep breath, sit back and read all about it. Here we go! It's official! I'm now a certified HJ Marshall romance junkie! Ensnared By Silence blew me out of the literary water! I wish I could have given it 10 Stars. But for the purposes of this review, I give it 5 BEASTLY STARS. The title of the book is perfect because I was, in fact, ensnared by silence right along with Aubrey, Hayden and the rest of the gang throughout its entirety. I couldn't talk about the book because none of my friends were reading the book when I was. And believe you me you're going to want to talk about this book while you're reading it. It really is an exciting, engrossing, emotionally charged moving read. If this gripping and riveting story doesn't move you and shake you to your very core, I don't know what will. Here we have Aubrey. The little poor girl from the flats. The wrong side of the tracks. The poor section of town. Where power overrides poverty in all things... Always. From a very young age Aubrey lived in a constant state of fear. One fearful second at a time. Always waiting for the next blow. Always waiting for that dreadful moment. The moment when she was taken to the shed. The shed. A place of secrets. Dreadful secrets made of awful things. Unspeakable things. Unimaginable things. Things that nightmares were made of. Nightmares that were ingrained in her memories. Memories that would haunt her all the way into adulthood. Where dreams no longer existed but the nightmares still did. Until the night her dark knight swooped in and saved her. Lord have mercy. How much pain can one person endure in a lifetime? As far as Aubrey is concerned... a lot! When I say lifetime, I mean ENTIRE life. Aubrey believes she can trust no one with her truths. If she dared tell anyone the whole story of what happened to her, they would surely want nothing to do with her. She believes she's unworthy of love because that's what was instilled in her when she was a young child. She doesn't think anybody will love her and that she'll never fit in, not someone like her. Aubrey’s suffered years of betrayal and pain at the hands of those who should have protected her. The acts of violence and the unimaginable sickening and twisted memories bruised, battered and tainted her soul. Shattering her innocence. From the despicable acts of violence as an innocent and vulnerable small child, to a teenager who trusted the wrong person and paid the ultimate and vile price for it. A price that sends her running and landing in Pierce Bluff. Ensnared by Silence is a very dark romance in my opinion. It will test your limits and your resolve. It has both beasts and monsters. Some good, some bad and some pure evil. There will be violence. There will be blood shed. But more importantly there will be sexy, swoony growly heroes to die for. Heroes that are always fiercely loyal, over protective to a fault and will do whatever is necessary and I mean anything to those who would dare hurt the woman they love. There are also heroines to admire who are strong, capable, loyal, loving and welcoming. They also make the best friends... and family. Enter our hero Hayden Winchester. Owner of Falcon’s Tavern who sports a sultry smile, well trimmed scruff, honey brown eyes, sandy brown hair and 6 foot 3 of pure sexiness that I could just overdose on. Not only will you meet my newest SWOONYLICIOUS book boyfriend, Hayden. The man who knocked me off my alpha male loving feet with all his delicious swoonyness and love for Aubrey. You will also be reunited with Devlin, Elise, James & Amaya from the first 2 books in the series. Devlin still gives me goosebumps all over. He’s positively dangerous. And his “brother” James isn’t far behind. But sometimes these heroes show another side of themselves.. A scary side. Their inner beasts need to be released to right the wrongs of injustices to the innocent. These couples are so in love that you will find yourself daydreaming and wishing you were a part of that love. I know I did. I loved our hero Hayden and heroine Aubrey. They belong together. Pairing these two people together was a slam dunk. You’ll root for them over and over. Aubrey and Hayden are drawn to each other. They are stronger together than they ever were alone. Hayden has his fair share of family troubles and secrets he doesn’t even know about. He’s pretty much estranged from them. That is until something is discovered that sends him back into the family fold. A mission of sorts that will hopefully get him the proof he needs to right a terrible wrong as well as rid his family of the evil who resides there. That mission backfires with dire consequences. What happens when the terrifying return of the devil himself, who has risen from the depths of hell seeking a sickening lust once more? Seemingly along with the apparent deceit of the man she trusted sends Aubrey into a desperate tailspin, a race for survival. So frightened for her life, believing it would be just a matter of time before those who betrayed her in her past and now, her present, will be nipping at her heels soon enough, putting an end to her now very lonely and bleak looking future. Will the past repeat itself? Will a dark knight from years ago return and swoop in to secure the future Aubrey so very much deserved and never had? Or will her white knight show her what love is all about, what justice is all about? How far would one family go to protect one of their own? A family born into, not just by blood, but by deep seeded friendship, honor, and loyalty. The righteous and the brave who seek their own kind of justice. Because that's what you do for your family. This is no exaggeration on my part when I say that at every corner, the words written on the pages of this story had my heart pounding into overdrive, my blood boiling at a rapid pace at the injustice that imploded a little girl's life, catapulting her into a life filled with dread, terror, misery, mistrust and danger. Missing out on those years that she should have been relishing and thriving in, only to be thrust head first into the lion's den, one of many, where depravity, deceit, despicable, deplorable and disgustingly evil deeds took place, shattering what little hope she had left of ever living a happy normal life..... or so it seemed. My head was reeling from the many mind bending, never-ending, jaw dropping shocking twists and turns. Every single twist was pure genius in my opinion and was intricately woven together where everything made sense. I should also mention that once I gained control of my senses after discovering each incredible twist and was able to catch my breath and pick my jaw off the floor, another twist would come my way catapulting me back on that crazy train that is Ensnared By Darkness. Let me tell you that crazy train is filled with every "feel" you could possibly imagine and I felt every single one of them. The ugly cries? Well all I can say is they weren't pretty but they sure felt great. Familial discoveries and secrets are revealed closer to home. What were they? I’m not telling but it put the biggest smile on my face and had me doing my family happy dance. What happens when Aubrey’s new "family" discovers the truth, every sickening detail of what happened to Aubrey? I think it's safe to say that something will happen but I can't say what. Will the monsters get away or will the beasts be set free to slay Aubrey's Demons? Will the depraved evildoers get their just reward? Will Aubrey run again? Leaving her to be always looking over her shoulder wondering when that day of reckoning will come? Will she remain and play a role in her own vengeance? Or will a different kind of swift justice be laid upon the monsters, sealing their fate? As I said before, I can't say. Sorry no spoilers. But I will say this. It's good. It’s really really good. Karma can be a real bitch sometimes.. As hard as it was to read what happened to Aubrey in the shed, as well as the pool house, the words written in the pages of this book beckoned me to read on and I did.... With a belly full of frenzied scared butterflies along with one eye open and one eye closed. Because I was scared to read more, yet I didn't want to miss a thing. There is so much spine tingling suspense prevalent in this book. I swear my heart was thumping in my chest so often and so loud I thought it would jump out of my chest. Some of my favorite things about Ensnared By Silence: * One of my favorite scenes took place in a hotel room and had me bawling like a freaking baby. It made me so happy for a certain two people. * A blast from the past showed up and he has not changed one bit. He's intense, in charge, not to mention protective and deadly. * Aubrey’s best friend Mathias. Lordy his one liners sent me into fits of laughter. I’d tell you one of them but you need to read them for yourself. * One can never have too much Devlin (from book 1). Or James for that matter. Lol. But I loved Hayden too, so much. He’s just so swoony. He made my heart palpitate over and over. These men!!!!!! Gah!!! * When Hayden learned the truth, his shock energized me. * A little stuffed animal named Wooly Bully. * Villains I loved to hate. * An ending like no other! A million different reasons I was so happy and impressed with Aubrey’s strength and resilience. *My two favorite lines in the book: #1 Aubrey kept secrets for so many years, caught somewhere between a whisper and a scream. #2 “Good food. Good meat. Good God, let’s eat. Amen and all that jazz.” * My most favorite thing about this book was that the whole gang returns. Not in a little cameo appearance either. They all play pivotal roles in different ways throughout the story. I can't even express to you how much I enjoyed that. Because I've read the other two books in the series and fell in love with everyone. And in no way did it take away from Aubrey's and Hayden's journey. On the contrary. It added so much to their story in addition to it. I can't thank the author enough for doing that in this book. Everything that happened, all the twists and secrets, the good the bad and the ugly couldn't have been done if it wasn't written this way. I mean I'm sure it's possible that it could be, but it wouldn't hold the same meaning if all the series characters weren't in the story. I’m always amazed by the authors who pen these great reads. Who create people from imagination alone and bring them to life in books they write like this one. So, there you have it. Ensnared By Silence by HJ Marshall. Do yourself a favor and hop on this crazy train, grab a front row seat and bear witness to this unbelievable and entertaining 5-STAR dark romance that you can sink your teeth in, bite your nails to, and give you something to think about. With amazing characters you can’t help but love and cheer on and villains you will love to hate as they unknowingly wait for their demise..
