About the author

REBECCA COHEN spends her days dreaming of living in a Tudor manor house, or a Georgian mansion. Alas, the closest she comes to this is through her characters in her historical romance novels. She also dreams of intergalactic adventures and fantasy realms, but because she’s not yet got her space or dimensional travel plans finalised, she lives happily in leafy Hertfordshire, England, with her husband and young son. She can often be found with a pen in one hand and sloe gin with lemon tonic in the other.
With contemporaries, historicals, sci fi and fantasy in her back catalogue, there should be something for every taste in Rebecca's work.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2024Ancient Egypt is still very much a mystery. This is a great read about that very subject. Could it really happen? Who knows, but it is fun to read about.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2024Short and sweet with a great premise. I really liked this a lot, I just fell in love with the characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2024As a long time believer in reincarnation, and a devotee of Egyptian history, this story spoke to me. The idea of an object being the catalyst to bring souls together time and again, tied together by memories, visions and scents from the past, is one I find intriguing. The way the story of Baniti and Osahar play out as flashbacks with physical manifestations, intertwined with the lives of 19th century Englishmen Dominic and Callum, then 21st century ones Mike and Luke, created vivid pictures in my mind, almost like participating in a time travel movie adventure. The fact that the more modern incarnations are aware of the duality of their personalities is also intriguing, to be aware of self and of another self at the same time. I wonder if over a lifetime the “two” blend together more to become a unified “one”? An interesting concept, and quite a mind game to write, I would think.
The characters are compelling and the world building of ancient Egypt and more recent London is fascinating to me. I’m looking forward to the other author interpretations, wondering if Baniti, Osahar and the ushabti will be the core for the new stories of couples in a different time and place.
A unique theme for a multi-author series to my mind, one that held my interest beginning to end — and I’ve almost memorized the spell.😉. A fun read, one I recommend, especially if Egypt is an interest.
I received an advance copy and this is my voluntary review.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2024The power of love is strong in this first journey into The Pharaoh's Promise. Osahar and Baniti are two young men living during Egyptian times who become lovers after Baniti sees something in the young Osahar. Osahar is young in every way yet despite his inexperience he's enamored with Baniti and when given the opportunity he makes the first move toward forever. While they learn more about each other physically, emotionally and each other's desires their love together is not without bumps. Baniti realizes he cannot be without his Osahar and seeks to ensure pleasure in their after lives. He consults a priest who provides the ushabti and the words to cement their lives. Despite the correct steps these men are given more than an afterlife, they are giving many lives together but they must find their way back to each other. So far they will reunite in the Ton as Dominic and Callum then more recently as Mike and Luke. Very excited for this series as I have read books from almost all of the authors featured. Ready for my next installment!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2024Callum Gething accepts a strange object from Dominic Fairweather in exchange for his losses at the card table. When he touches it, he activates a spell that was placed on it thousands of years ago. The two men never realized that the one object would change their lives forever.
The object given to Callum is an ushabti, which held the spell. Dominic had brought it back from Egypt and had no clue what it would do. Watching them learn about the spell made for some of the best romance ever. Rebecca Cohen is an amazing story teller as she weaves not just one romance but three. Beautifully written, if you like fated mate stories, this one is for you. It is indeed romance at its best.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. This review is my own personal opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2024Some intriguing ideas in this story make for an entertaining novella. Osahar and Baniti, two Egyptian lovers ascertain the means to find each other in the afterlife with a religious relic only to discover that it doesn't quite work out the way they expected. Instead, they reincarnate as Callum and Dominic in 1800s England.
It's a fun story, with Callum and Dominic's discovery played quite well, particularly their flashbacks to their Egyptian lives. And the ending, with Mike and Luke as the players was intriguing as well.
What kept me from rating the story with four stars was the length. Callum and Dominic's story seemed to cut off rather abruptly-I felt there was definitely a need for more exposition with the two of them. So, overall, I'd probably rate the tale as a 3.5 due to the creativity of the premise.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2024I love shared author series and this one definitely caught my interest. If you enjoy historical romances, 1800's England, past lives, m/m love surviving through time, and just a little magic, you'll really enjoy this.
I felt that the slow discovery of the backstory was well paced along with the "current day" and really enjoyed getting to know Callum and Dominic, as well as their past selves. I really liked how the characters acknowledged that they were now different people and their journey to reconciling their different lives.
Really well done all around.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024Rebecca Cohen's The Eternal Spell is the first book in a new multi (can 5 be multi?) author series The Pharaoh's Promise. Series premise is in ancient Egypt, a priest creates a spell which would reunite him with his lover in the afterlife.
An ushabti, an Egyptian burial token, reunites two lovers after several thousand years. Baniti, a priest of Egypt, wants an eternity "entwined" with his scribe lover, Osahar. Rather than an afterlife in the Field of Reeds, they are reincarnated into post Regency London. It's a world where same sex relationships are illegal and punishable by death, but Dominic and Callum have Baniti and Osahar's memories and want to be together.
The story goes back and forth from ancient Egypt to the Regency period and we see Baniti and Osahar's relationship as well as Dominic and Callum's. Both timelines have excellent worldbuilding and the love story is both sweet and steamy.
It's a quick, fun read. A great introduction to this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A poker game, an Egyptian artefact, and some strange dreams…
4/5 I’m a little leery of books with past lives for the MCs, as they sometimes leave me feeling like we didn’t get enough relationship development in the present. I thought this one pulled it off pretty well because we get a lot of flashbacks spread equally between the MCs, so they’re both experiencing the past and present together. Callum and Dominic being together was very much dependent upon Baniti and Osahar, but them remembering their past selves was very much essential to them being together. I liked the final chapter for showing the cycle continuing.
I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.
