From Hell: A Dark Billionaire Enemies to Lovers Romance (Villainous Delights Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 321 ratings

His name is Jack… but I’m the real Ripper.

Jaxon Clémont knows who I am. Why else would a monster leave petals like breadcrumbs? Send love letters straight from Hell? He’s stalking me, taunting me, chasing me into the darkness. He knows where I sleep, eat, and even where I live. He’s a brilliant surgeon and a billionaire, untouchable in every way, with a soul-sucking gaze and a predatory smile. And he knows my deep, dark secret.

But I won’t go softly into the night.

Jaxon might be my weakness with a beautiful face and a divine mission—who can cut my heart open with just one look and rip me apart with only a word—but I’m not another of his victims.

I won’t fall for his deviant charms.

I’m the real Ripper, and I’m going to make him pay.

Publisher Note: From Hell is Laine and Jaxon's story. A dark billionaire, serial killer, enemies to lovers romance intended for mature readers, containing material that some may find triggering or offensive.

What happens when survivors band together, not only for support, but for revenge? Can they learn to be as ruthless as their attackers? Quite a different and unexpected love story. Trust is a very different issue when it is with someone who may have tried to kill you in the past!

    Tropes:
    Stalker
    Serial killer
    Enemies to lovers
    Revenge plot
    Knife play
    Blood play
    Secret organization

This was a thrilling first book to the Villainous Delights series and I’m glad I picked it up. The writing was pretty solid and there were plenty of tense moments to make your heart pound and wonder what’s going to happen next.

I will say that Laine got on my nerves and aggravated me a lot throughout the book. She’s extremely indecisive and makes ignorant decisions that help move the plot along.

I loved Jaxon as a character though. A tortured soul with blood on his hands is exactly what I was looking for when I picked this book up.

I felt like there were some points in the story when it should have slowed down and there were some moments that were unrealistic. I also didn’t really buy into Laine and Jaxon’s chemistry either.

Overall a decent stalker and serial killer novel. I may check out the second book when it releases.

Phew! This was a wild ride. I just love morally gray characters and to have BOTH of the main characters be dark, dark gray? YES. PLEASE.

The plot moved very quickly and I was hooked from the start. You'll have questions along the way, but they do get answered at the end. I honestly wish this book was longer, I wanted to spend more time with some of the side characters and have a few more 'normal' moments with the two main characters. But overall, this was a great read that had some very shocking moments.

In a sense, this was an investigation of the concept of extreme altruism (behaviors that help others but are outside socially acceptable and legal boundaries). The main characters are two survivors who are trying to heal and leaving a path of bodies in their wake as they do so.

There is definitely spice and it's dark spice. Check TWs on her website because there is plenty of violence, steam, and medical issues to be aware of.

From Hell was a phenomenal book that had me on the edge of my seat. I have been searching for a book with a strong fmc, who is also dark and twisty circle of wrath like girlfriends assisting in her journey for a while. This book delivered that trope and then some.

From Hell is a dark academia romantic mystery that also touches on some fantastic social issues in a palpable way. If I could give more stars I would. I hope these characters get a second book or at least a few cameos in the next.

Tropes: strong fmc, touch her and 💀, found family, secret societies, knife play, plot driven mystery, occultism

There is so much in this book that I cannot even begin to explain without giving everything away. It’s wild. It’s about a Ripper who kills women, the girl that got away who decides to take her revenge by also becoming a killer, the boy who stood her up in college but has a mysterious background and the secret society that ties them all together. If you like mystery and thriller books with a hint of smut, this is right up your alley. There will be parts that have you confused, but just trust the process that all will be revealed in the end!!!

Laine is in medical school when she survived a should be lethal attack from The Ripper. A serial killer who brutally kills and dismembers his victims. As she seeks her revenge for both herself and her friend Molly, Jaxson returns to town. During medical school Jaxson's presence was intimidating and intoxicating. But with The Ripper also back in town letting it know he is stalking her, taunting her with deranged letters, it's all just too much. Things feel unsure and blurred. She won't fall for Jaxson's charms again, she will find The Ripper and she will make him pay.
This dark billionaire serial killer romance is so addicting. It pulls you in and seeks its teeth into you. It's deliciously dark and toxic.

This was an anticipated book of mine in 2023 when I had first heard about it. The description grabbed me and I was intrigued as to how it would work, plus the cover is just GORGEOUS!

Hopefully I don't give too much away...

I was hooked from the beginning. The friendships Laine formed with two other girls and the plans they have made to not only deal, but heal from the trauma they've experienced from the people who ripped their lives apart. I loved the deeper connection they all had. Is their friendship perfect? No. Are there secrets? Yes, but it felt like an honest, raw, and realistic relationship. Did I wish, however, that her friends would have stepped in and had more to say regarding certain things? Yes, but I still enjoyed their little circle and dynamic.

Jaxon. I know I shouldn't fall for someone soooo dark and twisted, but hot damn! What can I say, the more flawed and dark the character, the more I love them hehehe. Bit by bit you get to know who Jaxon is through his POV and Laine's. He's a complex character that had me really invested in the who, why and when.

I haven't read any Jack the Ripper inspired books, but I had an idea of what it might be like going in, but it was not like how I imagined at all. There's a nice little twist and freshness to it that I thoroughly enjoyed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating, dark and deadly story
Reviewed in the Netherlands on May 21, 2025
This retelling was definitely one that is enjoyable. Even after having a little difficulty getting into the book. It was a new and a refreshing take on the tale we all know from history books.

The Ripper only has one survivor, Laine Summers.
Luckily she survived the vicious attack 9 years ago after a night at the frat house of her fellow medical students. She’s determined to find her attacker, but will she like what she finds without getting stuck into her own feelings?

Even though we know pretty early on who embodies the devil incarnate himself. We are also made to believe it might potentially be other suspects. Throwing us for a loop. Slowly but surely everything starts to unravel and as we’re handed more and more puzzle pieces. The bigger picture revealed isn’t for the weak and actually made me feel bad for the MMC.

    Laine
She’s a badass FMC, a survivor and always reminding herself what road she’s taken to get back out on top. Enjoying the fact that Laine turned out not so much different from her attacker. After being hidden away for 9 years, having changed her identity and her appearance, she’s done hiding, but at what cost?

    Jaxon
A mysteriously addictive morally grey surgeon. Meticulous, precise, stalkish and a little obsessed.
Jaxon seemed to be conflicted with who he was. Having a clear contrast between what’s right and what’s wrong. As his alter states “mister uptight”, but all he’s doing is trying to prevent carnage from happening. It was interesting to read how Jaxon navigated himself through it all and eventually bringing down the ‘organization’ he was raised in. Literally burning their societal home down.

Both characters have toxic parents, but Jaxon’s father takes the crown for bad parent of the year. As Jaxon’s father firmly believes his son was touched by the divine. Instead of getting him the mental health treatment he needed in order to cope with his illness. Instead he was used in a vile way to clean up after the rituals and sacrifices the ‘organization’ made.

The idealisation of believe was intriguing to read and I’m not entirely sure if that meaning was intended to be there. It really shows you how far people are willing to go in a world full of power and corruption.

    Personal preferences
    - I missed some chemistry between Jaxon and Laine. They do have a certain amount of sizzling attractive pull towards each other, but I missed the pure wanton need and desire for one another. An unexplainable gravitation gravitation toward one another. This resulted in Jaxon toeing the edges of pure stalking obsession and Laine trying to convince herself she was into Jaxon.
    - I would’ve forgiven Mallory Fox if this would’ve been a purely plot based novel without a happily ever after. As at times the romance felt like an aftermath as it didn’t flourish enough for me enough and stayed pretty superficial.

Nonetheless, it’s a likable story, with actions from characters that make you question your morals (funeral wake, coffin scene -iykyk). If you enjoy history stories from Jack the Ripper, you’ll definitely would like this retelling with new twists and turns. The story sucks you in the moment more and more little hints are dropped. Making you crave more.

Some wonderful quotes from the book:
“I wonder how she will take my gift. I would have left it on her doorstep had that not been too obvious and careless of me.” - This is such high ginger cat energy.

“He pulls me to him, enveloping my soaking body as his lips slide across my skin like silk, brushing the pounding pulse at my neck until they find my mouth. And then he’s consuming me.” - beautiful phrasing

I don't even know how to describe my feeling with this book because I have craved a book like this for soooo long. I loved everything about it and I wish the whole serie was done now so I can finish it! Laine is so wild! To think she went through all that and still stood strong is just so wild! Jaxon being the ripper but hiding it from her for so long is honestly really impressing if you ask me. Like how? I could never.
I will for a very long time beg my friends to read this book even if they hate me for it🤭
