Explicit Transactions (Destined to Fail) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 479 ratings

I’m the prince of the night; the fulfillment of every one of your desires; the human form of every dirty thought you’ve ever had.

If you can afford me, of course.

Luca DiMarco can afford me. The flashy socialite and the hottest face of the upper echelon, he’s loaded enough that entire weekends with me are nothing more than pocket change.

Luca is relentless. I gave him something in our encounters which he can’t live without. And he’s doing everything in his near-infinite power to keep it. He’s going out of his way to make me feel good.

It almost feels like he cares. And he's making it really hard to resist the attention.

Boys like me don’t go around falling in love with their clients. They don’t expect a Prince Charming to carry them away. Yet both of those things seem to be happening to me.

But there are greater forces at work trying to tear us apart. And I’m not brave enough to face them.

Explicit Transactions is the third standalone installment in the Destined to Fail series. It features a strictly transactional relationship between one very independent contractor (cough, cough) and one wealthy crime empire princeling who has more in common with his escort than either imagines. Get ready for a rags-to-riches, forbidden romance full of heat and heart, with a guaranteed happy ending.

I literally do not know where to begin with this book. There is so much to say. Like, so many good things, but I don't want to give away any spoilers either. This is the final book in the Destined to Fail series and it did not disappoint. Hayden really went all out with this one. To top that off, this cover is so swoony!!!

We meet Austin who is so sweet, caring, super sexy, and he just so happens to be a rent boy. Enter Luca. Rich, handsome, compassionate, and is essentially part of a family of mafia royalty. Luca is so busy with his family business that he doesn't have time for a relationship. So, with a little help from a mutual friend, Luca and Austin are introduced and have a consistent weekend arrangement.

Together, these two are explosive! Besides being soooo hot together, they also build an incredible friendship that turns into a whole lot more on top of everything else. You are just cheering them on from their first encounter (which is TOO hot for words!) and that declaration during the chaos at the end......I about died from how sweet it was. Of course being in a family business such as this, there are bound to be some surprises and intense moments along the way as well, so there is that too. Again, I do not want to spoil anything! Just read it!

This book really was fantastic! One of Hayden's best. Truly. He branched out to add a little action and suspense and I loved every second of it! I am definitely putting this up there with my favorites from him. While I am super sad to see this series coming to its close, I do look forward to what comes next. I highly recommend this book! 5/5 very bright and shiny stars!

    Austin and Luca

I enjoyed Austin and Luca's story. They were sweet for each other. The story was okay. I really enjoyed the Destined to Fail series.

I could hardly put this book down. The story of rent boy Austin and lawyer Luca was one that had me rooting for the development of a relationship based on more than a cash transaction, building on the physical attraction as well as the desire to love and be loved by both men, and an unexpected connection which had the power to make or break them. Luca’s family created its own hardships leading to tense moments before being resolved and leading to their HEA.

Both characters were empathetic, complex, and interesting as they worked through the unique beginning of their relationship to something more meaningful and life changing for both. There were enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged, and an unexpected event or two. Easily read in an afternoon or evening, with a good feeling of satisfaction for the two at the end. Enjoyable read.

It started out great, I feel like it would've made a better erotic novella rather than full length novel because the conflicts in this book were quite silly once they arose and the relationship got a bit boring to read after a while.

Austin James knows who he is. Rent boy. He’s good at his job and he knows just what Luca DiMarco needs. Even though Luca was younger than most of his clients, and far sexier, I love that Austin stayed true to himself throughout.

Good story from start to finish.

This book. What can I say? It was the epic ending to an amazing series. Hayden started with all the steam and hotness in the world. Got us comfortable with Luca and Austin blurring the lines of their "transaction" and then BOOM! He ripped that out right from under us. I was a bawling blubbering mess before Hayden put me back together again as only he knows how. The ride was so worth it. With an amazing, sweet, happy ever after. I'm sorry to see this series end but it was truly amazing from start to finish.

Austin and Luca came into each others lives through by a mutual friend…neither knew how much they would need the other.

Think Pretty Woman but with hot AF men who burn hotter than the sun.

So sweet and oh so spicy…heat starts pretty early on and continues at a good pace. There also is no 3rd act breakup although there is an issue they have to get through.

This book got me out of my latest slump and I’ll for sure be looking for more books by Hayden.

This sweet story is by far my favorite of the series. Both Luca and Austin have insecurities and doubts about why they can never have a relationship despite the obvious chemistry and connection between them. Despite his place in the DiMarco family, Luca feels he is there to serve his father and brothers, as compensation for being lifted up and adopted into privilege and wealth. He doesn't really feel his worth and can't see that Austin wants him for more than money. And for Austin, it is obvious: what other purpose is there for a rent boy? He can't imagine that the wealthy and powerful Luca could care for him, and even if he did, they are from different worlds. It was beautiful to see the changes they wrought in each other. That said, I am only giving the story 4 stars, because the drama/revelation about their shared past felt forced and unnecessary to the story, and the author didn't really do anything with it. I think the issues with Luca's family and the role he played were far more relevant, as reflected in the showdown with Miller. I think that part could have been used to flesh Luca out a bit more. Regardless, I loved the story, and how Luca's family stepped up for him and showed their love. Sweet HEA.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars I’ve really enjoyed every book in this series. And this book was no different.

Explicit Transactions is book three in the Destined to Fall series

I’ve really enjoyed every book in this series. And this book was no different. Still following that same forbidden trope vibes, this book is escort/client and the lines get very blurred.

While it has a few dark themes it’s still a low angst, easy reading kind of book.

Austin and Luca’s connection and chemistry was so enjoyable to read. While they appear to come from different worlds they may be more alike than either of them knew.

I’m hoping there are more from this series, it’s definitely my fave from Hayden.

What a rollercoaster of a story for Austen and Luca from opposite ends of society yet both from similar backgrounds having both spent time in an orphanage. Delighted they found each other, found love their relationship moved from Luca paying Austen to outright love and a happy ever after ending

This book by Hayden Hall has elements of a number of different tropes. It starts as a rent boy story with Luca hiring Austin and them very quickly falling hard for each other. From “Pretty BOY” we go to a mafia story and in between those two we have the heated journey that they go through to learn about each other. A terrific read.
