Eye of the Sphinx: an Immortal Guardian Story Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

Leandro Falke, sculptor for the Cologne cathedral workshop and immortal guardian has a secret existence known only to Miriam Richter, his lover and the human he is sworn to protect. Miriam, Hauptkommissar of the Robbery and Homicide division for the Cologne police accepts her lover’s arcane existence and the curse of his oath.

Even though estranged from Leandro, Miriam's job presents her with a constant temptation to use his special talents. Especially when she’s got a murder to solve.

Make that multiple murders. Three young women have been murdered dead, their skin sculpted in grotesque imitations of figures from the cathedral. With no leads and no clue about when the killer will strike again, Miriam needs Leandro.

The good news: there’s a new moon, so it will be the perfect night for flying dark.

Eye of the Sphinx is a short story in the Immortal Guardian series.

Now a full-time writer living near Cologne, Sharon Kae Reamer’s speculative fiction is inspired by her participation in various archeoseismology projects during her twenty-something years as a senior scientist at the University of Cologne. Locations that include the Praetorium and medieval Jewish settlement in Cologne, ancient Tiryns in Greece, and Greek ruins in Selinunte, Sicily, provide perfect backdrops for creating fantasy stories rich with history and mythology, such as her Immortal Guardian and Schattenreich Mystery novelette series (work-in-progress) and her five-book Schattenreich novel series, and is working steadily on her new Sundered Veil series.

Her love for mixing and mashing science fiction and fantasy continues unabated.

Sharon plans to continue her pursuit of archeoseismology because the personal and professional connections she’s made cannot—and should not—be deterred. She also cooks daily (German-English), gardens (chaotically, at best), knits (badly), does needlepoint (rather well) and reads (everything) all the damn time.

And, of course, she has cats.

A fun read with memorable characters. And not many books take place in Cologne, Germany, which is pretty neat! I enjoyed it.
