About the author

Kathy Bond, NCPT, is a professional movement educator, founder and director of the Saskatoon Pilates Centre in Canada. She spent over six decades closely observing and working with the human body. Her journey began as a dance teacher, evolved into a fitness instructor, and decades ago, led her to become a Pilates educator and NCPT (Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher).
Throughout these years, she has consistently found the human body to be a source of joy and an intriguing challenge. It's the way the body moves, or sometimes doesn't move, that continually fuels her motivation to learn and share her knowledge, all to help others attain their ideal posture and alignment for everyday life.
When our bodies can move freely, without pain or restriction, we're better positioned to achieve the kind of vibrant living that Joseph Pilates envisioned – a life filled with "spontaneous zest and pleasure." Kathy hopes these modules will serve as a valuable tool for you in pursuing those aspirations.
In this book, she not only carefully describes and illustrates the exercises but also provides the reasoning behind each specific movement pattern. Think of her as the dating service between you and your body.
She is eager to assist you in achieving your best physical well-being ever.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2024Format: KindleVerified Purchase"Chair Exercise for Seniors Over 60" is an invaluable resource for older adults seeking gentle yet effective workouts. This book thoughtfully presents a series of seated exercises that are ideal for improving balance, enhancing flexibility, and strengthening muscles, all while being gentle on the body. Each chapter methodically introduces movements tailored to various body parts, with clear instructions and the need for only a basic chair. Particularly helpful for those with mobility limitations, these exercises promote an active lifestyle without the risks associated with more strenuous activities.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book is so worth having and using! It is easy to use and targets all of the areas of the body that get stiff, that ache, that make us old before our time. Personally, I've been dealing with lower back pain and restricted movement to my right side for months which not only disrupts my sleep but is debilitating in so many ways! I'm finding that the use of these exercises is alleviating the pain, increasing my mobility and improving my sleep. In addition, they are movements that are easy to learn, and as body awareness increases can be implemented into one's daily movements and activities compounding their effectiveness.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2024Format: PaperbackFirst, I have to admit I’m a big fan of Pilates and Yoga. For years I took classes at the gym. I was never in better shape. Then covid hit and I tried to maintain the practice at home, but eventually slackened off. That was a big mistake. Now, I’m working my way back. I was on the lookout for a book that incorporated the core philosophy and moves of Pilates but that also started in a chair as opposed to a mat.
Chair Exercises for Seniors has a lot going for it. If you’re someone like me, you’ll recognize the poses and stretches and exercizes that are designed to be done while sitting in a chair. This book includes 60 of them—with well described how to do the move instructions and illustrations. Taking the instructions and illustration together, most people should be able to figure out what needs to be done. (In some cases the illustration could be clearer and show more of the movement required, but it usually does the job.) The book offers a reasonable expectation for adults over 60 who may be in okay or so so shape and need to strengthen their muscles. Also, the book begins with a brief explanation of who Joseph Pilates was and what his exercise regimen was designed for, which help explains why building the core is so key to balance and flexibility.
Overall, I recommend this book for seniors who are looking to get in better shape. Ultimately, it can serve as a stepping stone to the mat or to more rigorous exercise. 5 stars

I found the description of the exercises very clear and easy to follow with a strong sense of selfcare.
There are helpful illustrations throughout the book which show how to do parts of the exercises. There is a good focus on breathing and good explanations for the muscles each exercise is targeting.
