Second Shot (Fantasia Book #1): A Progression Fantasy Romance Series Kindle Edition

The next book of the series! Don’t Slip Up (Fantasia Book #2): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FQ6CZPW

I was on a date with the girl of my dreams when life took a strange turn and I found myself sucked into a virtual game world. It was pretty much a nose dive out of my own world of comforts, where I had everything: money, love and a bright future on the horizon. I'm not a gamer and I’ve never been one to run from reality, but it seems fate has decided that my real life no longer belongs to me. Now I'm rotting away in some dumpy medieval village where everyone I meet wants to kill me.

But I won’t give up and I won’t lose hope. I'll get to the bottom of this! What’s it all for, and who's the mastermind behind it? I don’t plan on just rolling over and accepting any “gift” fate wants to bestow upon me, and if I have to turn this whole damn world inside out, so be it!

Think there are no more offbeat and original plotlines in the world of LitRPG? Well, friends, you’re in for a big surprise!

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Simon was born in the early 1980s, about the same time as the first computer games began to emerge. (A coincidence? I don’t think so!) He had a perfectly ordinary childhood: first a ZX Spectrum computer with tape games, then a Chinese Dendy console, and finally a proper PC when he was already in high school.

As Simon showed no interest in number-crunching whatsoever, his love for computer games was rooted in the stories themselves. Later, when he was studying literature at university, he discovered that all those stories had been in fact made up – and that some of them were God knows how old. For that reason, a freshly-graduated Simon went for whatever jobs were available, repairing computers, designing web sites, toiling away at book publishers and generally biding his time – but not once did he dare question his esteemed mentors’ truths.

Everything changed the day when his Nordic (read: lazy) nature fell prey to the demon of avarice. From that day on, Simon has been busy writing books, sharing the secrets he’d learned the hard way: those of eternal youth, easy money and true love. And he does it in an easy to digest fictional form which turns the thorny path of self-improvement into a pleasure ride. So you’d better hurry to lay your hands on his books: the number of hard copies is limited by the size of your hard disk!

And keep in mind that although Simon may dwell in a great many worlds at once, you can usually meet his current incarnation on planet Earth where he does a good job of passing for a regular citizen with the help of his wife and daughter who are also in on his ruse.

The theory/build-crafting was minimal, but the story held my interest to the end, unlike a lot of litrpg I've tried to read!

Nice work on your first book. I saw this book posted on Reddit and thought to give it a whirl. Very engaging book with a lot of action. Would recommend!

This book is OK. The writing is fine, but it did not grab my interest. I made it about a third of the way through, then gave up. I have too many books on my to read pile to continue, but maybe you will like it. Tom out

No compelling, organized plot. Lots of nonsensical pointless and a sheer craptastic attempt at making a litrpg story. I couldn't finish the crapfest. Read something else than this.

A Russian translation story that adds a twist to the trapped in the game format by making the main character (MC) a scanned copy of a real person uploaded to the game without his permission. The game world is PvP centric, with added permadeath since all the players are just scanned copies.

My initial impression was a little confused since it takes till about the 10% mark to explain the premise. But after that point, the setup is clear, even if the ultimate goal of the story isn’t. Instead, most of the novel is a bit slice of life as you follow the MC as he tries to escape the players trying to enslave newbies, figures out the game system, levels up, and recruits others to help him to stay alive against the monsters and other players trying to kill him, and eventually reaches a larger community that he gets involved with. There’s a little bit of a storyline to do with the real world, but for most of the novel, there doesn’t seem to be a clear plot. It’s not until about 66% into it that you get something rather interesting. It relates to real life, the creators of the system, and the real purpose behind the game. It’s a pretty good twist that adds purpose to what comes after in addition to some good town defense stuff. But it’s honestly something that took way too long to get to.

The game mechanics are fine. Nothing particularly innovative, but solid RPG progression with some smart spell combos and group tactics. There’s an emphasis on PvP and the tactics associated with that, so that might be a highlight for some.

Overall, unless you just fall in love with the early PvP aspect of the story or some of the group fights, it’s a challenge to see where the story is going until you’re almost done with it. There’s some rather good stuff after that 66% reveal that kept me interested, but I found it challenging to stay fully engaged with the story up to that point.

I received a review copy of this book.
Interesting story, and although it's a theme that has been covered before, the author did an excellent job of just telling the story, without the politics involved, and I like that. If you're the type of LitRPG fan that enjoys seeing the world characters go their own way, then you'll likely enjoy this story. I'm not sure how a second book in the series could proceed from the ending of this one, but apparently, there are more books in the series slated to be released, so that should be an interesting read, I'll keep an eye out for them, as I'm curious how the author intends to continue the story.

Has some speculative aspects that give it merit but it barely kept my interest otherwise. The story itself was a thin film just to give a backdrop to the speculative aspects that are nothing new to anybody who had read a decent amount of FIVR LitRPG.
