Fighting Fate (Monsters of London) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 27 ratings

One night. That’s all I do. I won’t change that for a werewolf, no matter how adorable he might be.

A night out with my friends sends me spinning into Dax’s orbit, and when what should be one night escalates into an entire weekend, I know I’ve got to get out fast.

Only, it’s harder to avoid Dax than I expected. Basically impossible, in fact, when he comes crashing back into my life again, just as sincere and cheerful and attentive as I remember. He’s tempting. More than tempting. But I know that relationships lead to nothing but broken hearts, no matter how many people around me have mated for life.

Too bad that the more time I spend with him, the more I want to give in. He says he’ll never hurt me, and I’m beginning to believe him.

After all, why wouldn’t I? Surely he’d never lie to me. Surely he’d never hide an even greater secret, one he should have told me the very first night we met.

Fighting Fate is a fated mates MM urban fantasy featuring a human playboy and a romantic wolf who’s just looking for his mate. It contains steamy scenes and only a little (totally justified) violence. This book is part of the Monsters of London series, and reading the previous three books is recommended for maximum enjoyment.

    4.5☆

It was so great to be back in this world again and it was great to see some of the characters we've met before in this series. I feel like I inhaled this book, it was easy to read and felt fast paced.

Vince and Dax meet at a club and they embark on a one-night stand that turns into a whole weekend. Vince is a human, who doesn't want
a relationship after getting burned a couple of times and Dax is a werewolf who is searching for his mate. Dax lets Vince go after their weekend together, because while he can feel the bond, he doesn't want to scare Vince away. They meet again when Kieran organises self defence classes, which Vince will teach and Dax shows up to volunteer for them on behalf of his pack.

Dax was such a sweet and romantic character, willing to wait any amount of time for Vince to slowly come to him. While Vince did not like the whole fated mates concept, he slowly came around, with some nudges from outside forces. Both of them had their issues, neither of them having the self confidence and feeling less than. They were sweet too each other, but there was also a fierceness in both of them that I really enjoyed. Dax's pack really made him feel inferior and I was glad to see Vince and his volunteering give him back some of his confidence.

I enjoyed the progression of the story, but I would have liked to see more of them working out their differences, but I really enjoyed the story amd how everything played out.

I'm very excited to read more books in this series and see what happens in this world the author has built.

If you like urban fantasy with werewolves, mages, vampires and humans, then this might be the book for you.

    “Fine. But this is—”
“Whatever you want it to be,” Dax says. Honesty shines through his big brown eyes.
'I kiss him again. Whatever I need it to be.
    What I want is dangerous.
    I can’t have that.'

I loved this book and was hooked right from the start. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Dax and Vince. Their chemistry was scorching hot and they just connected. Dax was honestly adorable, and was very patient once he realized Vince was his mate, but the man didn't want more than one night (and didn't know about werewolves).

'My wolf prances somewhere in the back of my head. My mate. My mate is real, and he’s here, and he’s in my arms…
And I think there’s a real chance I can keep him. Not right now. Not right away. But if I’m careful and go slowly, then Vince might just thaw for me.'

But as tempted as Vince is by Dax, his heart has been broken by not one, but two cheating exes. He can't bear to be hurt like that again. To trust again.

It's a very slow dance between these two. Both fighting their own insecurities and not completely opening up to each other because of it. I couldn't wait to see how things turn out. 5 stars.

Ok I admit I’d forgotten about Vince;0) I’m really glad that Alexandra didn’t forget him though. This book starts at the same time as Bad Blood book one of the Monsters of London series. I guess you could read this first but it would be a real struggle to know wth is going on. So I definitely recommend starting that series first.

This as always was a well written story with some amazingly hot sexy times lol. The only reason for 4⭐️ instead of 5 for me was the lack of suspense in this which is so different from the Monsters of London series. I really enjoyed this but I had been looking forward to some more butt kicking. That’s totally on me I know!

It was great to see Kieran, Sam, and the rest of the pack. I’m looking forward to more from this universe.

My vote is 4.5⭐️. Alright that was seriously cute! It was so fun to be back in the monsters of London world, and it was so much lighter than the previous three. We get to see all of our favorite past characters a bit, and things are finally calm. Kieran’s pack is coming together and everything is nice and settled, for the moment… Dax and Vince were so sweet and Alexandra went straight in with the heat! Usually we have to wait it out a bit, but this one started out hot with a meeting in a club and a playful weekend between the two. Dax knows right away that Vince is his mate, but he doesn’t want o scare him off. Dax is scared and insecure and just the sweetest shifter baby! Vince has been hurt and he’s stand offish and really doesn’t think he can commit to anyone for longer than one night. He knows that there is something more but he wants to keep his distance, even though he can feel Dax is different. It takes them a bit to figure it out and give in, but it was so low angst it was just such an enjoyable read. It was just was I needed from this series.

This is a really good book. The fourth (I believe) in the series, so there's a lot of information and characters from previous book. I felt so sorry for Dax and the way the other wolves treated him in his pack. While there is that 3rd act breakup, I can honestly understand why Vince reacted the way he did. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, and I'm really hoping it's Jamie's story

Fighting Fate is a nice addition to the Monsters of London series. Much of the earlier book's dramas are resolved, so we get a 'normal' werewolf insta-love story. Dax is a cinnamon roll of a wolf. Sweet, understanding. Not particularly dominant, I could understand why his old pack misunderstood and abused him. Their loss. Luckily human Vince is strong where Dax is weak. Totally protective. After he gets his head out of his butt.
Dax was too accommodating, even though he knew they were mates from their first night. Vince was mostly a jerk throughout. Having to interact with Kiernan and friends, always great to see them, helped.
A fun, quick read. No angst for an Alexandra Keillor story. There are a few more secondaries who could use mates. But if Keillor decides to end it here, this was a gentle, sweet way of completing it.
I received an advanced copy of this book from GRR and this is my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vince and Dax are fated mates but……
Reviewed in Canada on March 26, 2025
Dax is a wolf shifter who knows they are fated mates, but Vince thinks fated mates are a stupid idea and wouldn’t want one. Oh yeah and Vince is human.
This sets up a complicated situation for the two of them that Alexandra Keillor uses to frame her story about these English paranormals and their lives in the busy city of London. Around all of this are the continuing stories of the characters from the previous books and presumably the next few books. I like when authors of series like this have overarching stories and don’t just write about one couple (or group) per book.
I did find this book made me feel very sad because Dax is in such a difficult position and is wanting his mate so badly. I did end up liking the book a lot and it was actually a good change from most fated mates books where they just fall for each other immediately.
