- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2021"Kissing him was a full-body experience; my core tightened, my heart soared, butterflies fluttered in my belly, and time stood still. All other kisses before it paled, and even in that moment…I knew all others after would, too."
Insanely romantic and heart-felt second chance rocker romance held in a picturesque small town that was intensely vivid with a host of characters that felt like you were right there. I was so excited to see a new book from this Author, as I consider her Rebel Series one of my absolute favorites. This shines the same way. Regret, lost time, and the kind of love where no one else will do sucked me in and held me captive the entire time. Vivid, flawlessly real characters left no questions, and only the need for MORE. Sweetly sultry, and emotionally satisfying, I didn't want it to end. Beautiful and intense, Cal and Harper had years of missed chances and the way back to each other was emotional, steamy, and filled with SWOON!! Little hints and surprises left breadcrumbs to what I hope will be another of my favorite series by this Author.
"Nobody kissed the way he did; his kisses consumed me, igniting everything within me. His touch erased it all; it evoked a thrill through me that launched me into a celestial world where only the two of us existed."
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2020Off Beat is the first read in a new series by J C Hannigan, an author I've enjoyed in the past.
I was glad to meet Calum, Harper, Asher, and the cast of character surrounding them.
Off Beat is a bit of a different read in that it doesn't follow the traditional story arc. Ms Hannigan has us jump into the story at the beginning of the conflict - When Calum returns to his hometown after being away for 9 years. She does an excellent job of using flashbacks to build the history needed to have us rooting for Calum and Harper to have a much needed second chance.
It was sweet to see Calum try to work his way back into Harper's good graces, but it was almost too easy. I kept waiting for something to go wrong. One thing I missed/wanted to see a bit more of was just how Calum's career was impacting the changes in his life. We see him get put into sitiuations that could have made things more difficult for him, but he reapeatedly makes the right choice (yay Calum!), but there is a bit of a unresolved question about how his new life gets introduced to the public.
As much as this is Calum and Harper's story, it's also an opportunity to meet Calum's band mates (Dare and Evan) and family who we hopefully see more of in future books. There are several stings that could be pulled for interesting and dynamic stories that I hope we see soon.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2023I fell immediately for Calum and Harper! Calum left Harper behind years ago but never forgot her. He came home to say goodbye to his beloved grandpa but found himself in what he left behind. You will love how this story evolves! I don't want to say to much and give away any spoilers so i will just say that it isnt your typical romance book. And don't worry when you fall for the supporting cast! Just read the next book! I plan on reading anything I can get my hands on of this new to me author! Thanks for this beautifully written story!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2022Newbie author to me and this book sounded very interesting; I'm not really a fan of second chance romances but the blurb intrigued me, so I gave it a whirl.
Callum left to make a name for himself and become the rockstar he was wanting to be and that's exactly what he did; while at the same time leaving behind the love of his life Harper; my opinion, Callum didn't love her enough if he left her behind but especially being the coward he was and didn't even say goodbye... I really really disliked Callum quite a bit. I mean the only reason he came back was because his grandfather passed away and he was attending the funeral.
Harper on the other hand moved on and made a successful career and didn't chase after him and so glad she didn't do that; even though heartbreaking for her she trekked on and did her thing. When he comes back he does reach out to her but I wish she would've had a backbone at that point and made him grovel more and plead for her forgiveness and so much more because she deserved that.
Otherwise, decent story with good characters and development, storyline was alright. This book just wasn't my forte; I didn't like the characters much but I LOVED the secondary characters way more.
This will not deter me from reading the next book in this series and many more of her other books!
I hope the secondary characters get a book because I'd be stoked to read their stories!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2021A wonderful story of how Callum follows his dream but leaves behind his true love. Not realize he left more than Harper behind. When he comes home for his grandfather’s funeral he realizes what al he missed out on and ties to rebuild their relationship up hoping in a second chance. Reading of the other characters and family in the book, a lot of more stories and secrets will come out. A must read for sure
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2021But I felt she forgot his desertion way too fast. Also he wasn't pining for her as the only thing that brought him to his home town was grandfather s death. Also he was with lots of other women after he left her. So no sorry feelings there. He moved on once he left and no looking back. He should have found her involved with some other guy. I was disappointed in Colums attitude but she was just too easy. A lots of things unanswered in this book. Hope you plan on answering them.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2021I absolutely loved Harper and Calum...and little Asher! This was so much more than a rockstar romance but a story of a sweet, heartwarming second chance. If I could I’d give this more than five stars and I’m excited to read more from this amazing author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Spicy
This is one of those books that are easy to fall into. A quick and engrossing read, it flows really well and the characters are engaging.
I admit there are a few characters I struggled with a little bit, but overall, this book was endearing and warm. Definitely some spicy moments, but mostly sweet, and refreshing to see protagonists be empathetic toward one another despite loaded pasts. Hannigan is excellent at toeing the line of adding enough reality to make her characters human, while also still leaning into the fantasy that is fictional romance.
If you prefer closed door romance, this is not for you, but if you like open door, it ABSOLUTELY is.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 second chance stars
Their connection was strong, even after all those years apart. I liked that there wasn't anything bitter about their reunion either. Interested to see where the rest of this story line will go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
What a great rock star/2nd chance read. Really liked Callum and Harper. They both mDe mistakes but are so good together. Couple plot twists and some great side characters make this a fun read. Excited for more.
