Thanks so much for looking at my books on Amazon. I write warm-hearted and uplifting stories of friendship, family, community, and love.
My stories are set in two locations, on the beautiful Cornish Atlantic Coast and in Kent’s Garden of England. It’s that sense of community that makes these settings so perfect for my novels.
Friendships, and particularly women supporting other women, are integral to my stories, be they midwives, business owners, or mums who meet at the school gates to share the highs and lows of life. There’s always a rollercoaster ride but, no matter what, there’ll also be a guaranteed happy ending to put a smile on your face by the time you reach that final page.
The readers who’ve chosen my books have made all of my writing dreams come true. I really hope you’ll decide to join them, take a break and enjoy getting lost in a feel-good story, with characters who’ll soon feel like old friends.
Thanks again for stopping by, Jo xx

About the author

Jo Bartlett was born a stone’s throw from the English Channel and still lives near the sea in Kent, with her family, so close to the South Eastern edge of England that they're very nearly French. It's probably why so many of her books are set near the sea too. Jo has made up stories for as long as she can remember, but never really took it any further, until a catalyst called cancer gave her the impetus to follow her dreams.
Since having her debut novel published in 2015, Jo has had numerous bestsellers in the UK, the USA, Australia and Canada. Jo writes contemporary women’s fiction, with mostly series-based stories that focus on love, friendship, family and community. She also writes grittier standalone novels focusing on a wide range of issues. Since joining Boldwood Books in 2021, Jo has written two bestselling series - the Cornish Midwife novels and the Cornish Country Hospital books.
In 2023 Jo celebrated one million sales worldwide and, after twenty-five years in teaching, now writes full time. You can follow Jo on Instagram, her author page on Facebook, or sign up to her newsletter - the details of which can be found on any of her social media accounts.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024Although there is a bit too much of book one in this series re mentioned for my enjoyment. I found the story fun, richly appointed with good characters, and compelling. A quick read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2024Good story that centers around two main characters - Esther and her mother, Caroline. Esther is a nurse in her hospital's emergency room, where she frequently works with her best friend, Danni, a doctor. Her biggest problem is having to deal with her cheating ex-boyfriend, Lucas, another doctor. She is enjoying being free and having time to spend with her friends. She is living on her own for the first time and loving the independence. Then Danni's brother, Joe, arrives from Australia to augment the hospital's psychiatric corps. Esther has always had a crush on Joe but won't risk two friendships with an ill-advised relationship.
Joe came home to Cornwall after a breakup with his girlfriend. He looks forward to a change of scenery and new challenges. He doesn't expect to be drawn to his sister's best friend, especially since she makes it plain that she isn't looking for anything except friendship.
However, when Esther's caring heart gets her into trouble with a young patient who has suffered a devastating loss, Joe is there to provide backup and support. I enjoyed seeing them work together to help the young man and grow closer as they spent time together. I liked Joe's protectiveness as the patient's attention grew more intense. But as Esther and Joe's relationship deepens, she panics at the realization that he will return to Australia, and fearing the effect on her heart, she pulls away. It takes a dangerous situation to make her realize that life is too short to play things safe. I liked the ending.
The other story is about Esther's parents, Caroline and Patrick. They worked hard all their lives to save for retirement and had big plans for that day. They moved from London to Cornwall to be closer to Esther. Caroline retired first and has been looking forward to making their dreams come true. In the meantime, she has made new friends and spends time volunteering. But when Patrick retired, instead of moving forward with their plans, he became a homebody uninterested in anything even remotely adventurous. Caroline is frustrated and feels a growing distance between herself and Patrick. I felt terrible for Caroline and wanted to shake Patrick for constantly blowing off her concerns. I suspected something else was going on and was proved right. It took a near tragedy to bring these two back together.
I enjoyed the medical aspects of the book, which covered everything from dementia to kidney failure. I loved seeing the caring healthcare workers, the assorted patients, and the fun volunteers. Each one had a unique personality, and I laughed out loud at some of the interactions. There were also tears at heart-wrenching moments and hope that things would work out for everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2024This book was amazing on more levels than I can enumerate. Characters, dialogue, and experiencing thought processes that are so real make this a tremendous read. To get into the best frame of mind, I reread book one. Totally worth it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2024Another fantastic book by Jo Bartlett. Nice to see characters from first book tie in with the stories of the characters in book two. Book 3 already pre-ordered.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2024After just reading the first book in this new series by an author I enjoy reading very much I was more than eager to dig into Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital and get an update on the characters' lives. Though this is a series it can be read as a standalone, but why would you do that when both books are so much fun.
The first book has Danni's story and now we have Esther's story. Esther was going out with Lucas, Danni's ex but the jerk cheated on her. There is so much going on in this book, so many side stories that I am hoping to see a continuation of one that will develop into out next book in the series. There is also Caroline, Esther's mom. They say retirement can be really rough on a couple not used to being around each other all day long. As Caroline tries to engage her husband in activities to spend time together and have a closer bond, he seems to be pulling the opposite way, away from her. It was very realistic seeing Caroline and her husband's story as often times happens with long married couples. They both has misconceptions about how the other feels and secrets are so damaging in relationships.
Danni's brother Joe is in town from Australia and working in the same hospital. Things seem to be a great match with Esther but how could things possibly take a romantic turn when he will be here for such a limited time?
Once again, I enjoyed the realistic hospital setting and meeting the patients. There is a bit of a charged atmosphere with the hospital staff dealing with mental illness, as kindness is thought to be so much more. It had me feeling creeped out a bit.
The author does such a great job of drawing the reader into the character's lives and having you right there with them. Such a strong story line, it kept my attention and had me eagerly reading it. I am hopeful there will be more in this series because I am not ready to let these characters go quite yet.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2024My sincere thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital. I give my unbiased opinion of the book in the following short review.
This book is the second in a series of standalones that take place at the Cornish Country Hospital. I did not realize this when I started the book and even though I was able to follow the story, I think I would have enjoyed it a little more had I already been introduced to the characters. This particular book follows Esther, a nurse at the hospital, and her mother Caroline who is navigating what seems to be a midlife/retirement crisis that her husband is going through. Mental Health is a strong theme throughout this book, and I thought it was well written. There is a definite friend group at the hospital who get along very well and have some great banter when they gather. There is a little romance as well as some suspense thrown in to make the story move along quickly. This was definitely one of those books where I wanted to jump into the pages and shake some sense into a few of the characters more than once, but overall it was an easy to read and entertaining women's fiction story. I will have no trouble recommending it to fans of this genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars what a great read
Loved this all the twists and turns ups and downs … don’t often get time to read but actually made time!

2.0 out of 5 stars I liked it but…
I did enjoy this book, and how various plot lines were positively resolved. But sometimes the book was just soooo repetitive, like the author explaining a character’s motivations over and over. That was boring and slightly irritating to have to read through. However, there were parts that were probably very true to life, such as living with a spouse or other family member that had alzheimers. I think I liked the first book in this series more. But I still look forward to reading another book by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughter and Tears
We are back at the Cornish hospital with Esther and Danni. Esther is recovering from heartbreak after discovering her fiance Lucas was unfaithful, although he is still hanging around, she is not interested in getting back with him. When she hears Danni's brother is returning from Australia for a while she is excited, although a bit nervous as she has always liked him but is afraid it might be a bit more than just like. Esther and Danni are on the beach one day when they witness a terrible accident which will have a far reaching effect on Esther. This book made me laugh and cry and it is a brilliant book. Looking forward to the next in the series.
