Great for a free read! I think Glynn is better at long stories than short stories...I've read every single one of his books. This is the first story that didn't really capture my attention. But then again...it's 20 pages and he's offering it for free. It's more of an introduction to his writing style than anything. If you like fantasy, science fiction, plot twists, magic, space, steadfast heroes, imaginative universes...then Glynn has something for you. I highly recommend the Starship's Mage as your first read, if you're into both magic and space.

There was something about this short story that just felt...off. I had a difficult time connecting with the story, and that may be partly due to confusing elements. With a setting such as diesel engines, dirt, motorcycles, etc., I instantly think Mad Max. However, with names like Afegeon and others of similar nature, it didn't blend well. To me, it felt like a rundown, post-apocalyptic, fae universe that struggles to make ends meet.
