Purchase options and add-ons
Here it is! The first Kirundi illustrated children's book to accompany children from 1 to 6 years to discover the world, language, and Burundian heritage.
On the pages of this book, follow the adventures of Gatore as she is visiting Burundi with her family for the first time in her life.
Finding resources to learn Kirundi for our children born outside Burundi has become a rather big challenge. Due to the lack of material, more and more parents are giving up teaching their mother tongue to them. This series of illustrated children's books aims to respond to this challenge. The author, husband, and father, decided to tackle this problem by creating resources for his daughter born in France, and the thousands of other children in a similar situation. Enjoy!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2025The story of Gatore and her parents visiting Burundi is engaging, beautifully illustrated, and culturally driven. It paints a realistic picture of what one might expect when traveling. The narrative begins at the airport, where Gatore and her family prepare for their journey to Burundi, an African country. Upon their arrival, Gatore immediately noticed the hot climate. She felt the excitement of meeting her family for the first time and trying various foods, some of which she enjoyed and others she did not. I found the book very relatable and quite enjoyable. There’s also a bonus at the end of the book where children can color the characters, which I found impressive.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2025I loved this book. My 2 children loved reading the story with pictures and were engaged more because of it. The pictures are large enough that they tie in with the story. The coloring pages and audio link at the end are an added plus. They like to imagine the story with the colorful pages. They constantly talk to each other about the story while reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2025This book is a gem for families wanting to introduce their children to Kirundi and Burundian culture! Following Gatore’s journey makes learning engaging and fun, while the vibrant illustrations bring the story to life. As a parent, I appreciate the effort to create meaningful resources for children born outside Burundi, helping them stay connected to their roots. It’s not just a language-learning tool—it’s a celebration of identity, culture, and storytelling. A must-have for any Burundian family raising little ones abroad!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025This book is so cool! I have yet to see another children's book written with both English and Kirundi side by side. The story follows the trip that Gatore takes with her parents to their homeland, Burundi, to visit family and experience the culture they grew up with. It is well written, perfect for its target age group, and has nice illustrations. I would highly recommend it!
