He's a Rocker. He's a Biker. He's the wedding planner.

Number-crunching Velma Johnson's perfectly planned life is right on course.

That's a lie. Sure, she's got the lucrative job. She's got the posh apartment. But her sister nabbed Velma's Mr. Right. There has to be a man out there for Velma. Hopefully, one who's hunky, wears pressed suits, and has a diversified financial portfolio. He'll be exactly like, well... her sister's new fiancé.

Badass biker Brek Montgomery blazes a trail across the country, managing Dimefront, one of the biggest rock bands of his generation. With the band on hiatus, Brek rolls into Denver to pay a quick visit to his family and friends. But when Brek's sister suddenly gets put on bed rest, she convinces Brek to take over her wedding planning business for the duration of her pregnancy.

Staying in Denver and dealing with bridezillas was not what Brek had in mind when he passed through town, but there is one particular maid-of-honor who might make his stay worthwhile.

Velma finds herself strangely attracted to the man planning her sister's wedding. Problem is, he ticks none of the boxes on her well-crafted list. Brek is rough around the edges, he cusses, and doesn't even have a 401(k). But trying something crazy might get her out of the rut of her dating life--so long as she lays down boundaries up front and sticks to her plan...

A Sweet, Laugh-Out-Loud Rom-Com
Going Down on One Knee is a sweet rom-com featuring Brek and Velma. Velma is trying to stick with a five-year-plan for her future, and everything seems to be going on tack until her sister, Claire, announces her engagement to Dean (and Velma meets Brek). From there, comedy and a sweet love story ensues. I really liked all the characters and cannot wait to read more books in the Mile High Matched series)

This is my first novel by Christina Hovland and I absolutely loved it! I cannot wait to read more.

    Summary:

Velma Johnson is the queen of plans. Planning for and knowing her next step makes her feel steady and secure. She’d like to say that everything in her life is going according to her long-thought out and carefully executed five year plan, but it’s really not. It started out great and she has the home and successful job to prove it. But her Mr. Right is very much taken. By her twin sister. That’s okay. She just needs to reassess. There has to be the perfect man for her out there. Preferably one that makes her heart pound, has clean nails, and cares about his financial future as much as she does. The one thing she does know is that Brek Montgomery isn’t that man. The badass biker is covered in tattoos and is more than happy to forego settling down in favor of wandering the country managing his band. He’s only in Denver long enough to see friends and family before he’ll move on to the next tour stop. Velma’s intense attraction (and his apparent return attraction) will just have to be ignored because Brek isn't the sticking kind. When Brek’s stay in the mile-high city is unexpectedly extended and he ends up as her roommate, their spine-tingling chemistry becomes harder to ignore. Brek is now the newest wedding planner in the city, thanks to his sister needing help. Between bridezillas and wedding mishaps, Velma finds herself getting closer to Brek, and closer to giving in to his many propositions. Problem is, Brek isn't the least bit like the kind of man Velma was looking for. Could stepping out of her carefully created niche break her out of her dating rut? Getting involved with a man like Brek isn't smart, but as long as she sticks to her plan everything will work out. Right?

    *************************

The blurb got my attention on this one. I couldn’t help but want to read about a biker turned wedding planner. I really liked Velma. I think at first I worried her uptight and OCD nature would become annoying, but it was just adorable. She was a strong, confident, successful woman. That didn’t mean that she was good at dating. She was stiff, unsure of herself, and scared to open up to anyone for fear of rejection or harsh criticism. Showing this vulnerability endeared her more to me. I also loved that she could throw some sass, and that her growth as a character didn’t change who she was but more enhanced and added to her own unique personality. I adored Brek. He was the perfect mix of alpha bad boy sweetheart. He found his own niche in the industry he loves which took hard work and determination, not to mention patience. He’s a wanderer, but never hesitates to be right where his loved ones need him. My favorite part was despite his appearance as a playboy, he has a conscience and would never purposely hurt a woman, emotionally or otherwise. As a couple, they were very much an “opposites attract” scenario. They fit beautifully together, though. The chemistry between them was immediate, and only grew more intense as the book progressed, giving us some very sexy scenes. Their banter was easy and funny, too. They both were catalysts for the personal growth in the other, pushing each other to step outside their comfort zones in different ways. Overall, it was a book I didn’t want to put down. The writing was great, the plot well-paced and relatable. The added humor just made the romantic journey all the more fun. All of the supporting cast were likeable, and I’m so happy it looks like we are getting stories for Jase and Eli. There was the perfect amount of love, laughter, family and friendship to keep me invested. And I’m loving the group dynamics, and the history and connections that tie them all together. February can’t come fast enough for book two. ♡

This is a new author for me, and not a genre I generally read in romances; I'm not usually for books that smack of Chic Lit as I am so passed that age, but I gave this one a try. It was cute and light and a nice palate cleanser from some of the heavier romantic suspense I tend to favor. I would have liked it better if it didn't fall back on the age old miscommunication trope but it's hard to find a book that doesn't. If he had been up front about his future plans and she had been a bit more mature it still could have had enough action, yet ended well and more pleasurably for me. The writing itself was well done and I didn't notice any grammatical errors, another big plus these days. The whole premise was a bit stretched but it also made for a unique story, so I can forgive that. Secondary characters were well-played out too, and his male friends perhaps a bit too realistic, but that was also funny; crude but funny. Many women will find this book humorous and even the sex scenes were unique and well-written as sex scenes go.

Velma "Velvet" Johnson's life is going according to plan except for one thing....her Mr. Right. Unfortunately, her twin sister, Claire, nabbed Dean, the guy she was lusting after. When Claire tells her that she and Dean had some news and were going to come over the last thing she expected was an engagement! The second thing she never expected was some hot, arrogant biker showing up at her apartment. Turns out hot biker is Brek Montgomery, Dean's best friend and her new roommate for the next few months.

Claire and Dean hire Montgomery Events to plan their wedding....a company owned by Brek's pregnant sister. When Aspen ends up on bed rest Brek takes over running her business until after the baby is born, since he is on break from managing the band Dimefront. He then convinces Velma to help him in exchange for helping her find her perfect guy.

As they spend more time together, their chemistry starts to ignite and Velma is starting to think that eve though Brek doesn't rate very high on her spreadsheet, he might just be what she really needs. Just when you think Brek and Velma will get their happy ending, misunderstandings come into play and everything explodes, but in the end they find their happiness!

I just adored this story. Brek was so funny you couldn't help but love him. He was a hoot as a wedding planner and up against Velma's straight laced approach they made the story so fun! There happy ever after was just perfect!

Velma is a straight-laced, by the books kind of girl. She's on a 5-year plan to perfection. She just needs to meet the man who checks all her boxes. Brek checks none of the boxes. But their chemistry is off the charts.

I love the flipped "miscommunication." There was no miscommunication, Velma really hurt Breks' feelings. And he did not know how to handle feelings. I loved that Velma had to chase him and grovel. Great storyline!!!

Velma is your up tight, follow the rules woman. She has a 5 year plan and everything! Until Brek walks into her life. She nervous to be with a man.

Brek is a band manager and rides a motorcycle. He’s a free spirit until he sees Velma. He screams confidence.
This was a cute and spicy romcom! Their story gave me all the feels. I couldn’t out it down!!! I can’t wait to read book 2, Blow Me Away.

The first book I have read by this author but will definitely go back for more. I loved both characters, Velma so strait laced and Brek all tattooed and sweary. The supporting characters were all strong as well. The story built well and I went to the authors page as soon as I finished to get the bonus chapter

I listened to the the Audible version of this book and what a fun, funny, hot, swoon worthy story! Loved Velma and Breck and all the supporting characters in this book.
Neva Navarre's narration was dead on and delivered perfectly, particularly Velma's quirky inner monologues. Lance Greenfield is a new narrator to me, but his growly delivery of Breck was excellent.
Whether you read or listen if you are looking for an entertaining, fun, low angst story then this is the book for you!

The storyline was good and I loved that Velma and Brek were complete opposites. He was a tattooed long haired biker who managed a rock group while she was a straitlaced financial planner. This certainly provided many funny moments in the book. Velma and Brek's characters were fantastic - they represented how far apart they were in personality and tastes. The other characters were well written too although with three weddings along with associated family and friends it sometimes felt that there were too many characters in the story.

I loved Velma's dating spreadsheet and was pleased when she updated it towards the end (although I would have preferred Dean, her sister's fiance, not to see it). Velma's sleuthing when she was trying to find Brek was very clever and cute. I think the story could have benefited with more emotion in the"bedroom" scenes as it lacked romance and was only describing the physical aspect. Also, I would have liked a bit more content between the wedding and Lily's arrival. Even though I don't swear personally, I didn't mind that in the book as it helped set the personalities of Brek and his friends.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed it well enough to read more from her so I recommend it as a light hearted romcom.
