Scarred Heart & Sass (The Silver Wilde Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 225 ratings

Life has been… a magical rainbow dumpster hellfire, and it's about to get so much worse.

I’m Silver Wilde, a Hekate-worshiping witch, with the power of compulsion - which I only use to check alpha holes who need a smack down, of course. And the occasional barista for free coffee.

I thought I was at rock bottom grieving for my best friend, but then it became a mesmerizing, glittery black hole and sucked me right in.

Starting with the sketchy client who said I couldn’t quit… I told him to hold my beer.

Now it’s like I woke up in some alternate universe. Meddling questions. Vampire captors. Gut churning portals.

My mother, the most powerful witch I know, has disappeared. Just… Poof! Nowhere to be seen, astrally or otherwise. WTAF?

And let’s not discuss that pesky death prophecy I never should have asked for. What a thorn in my side.

It’s fine. I’m fine. This isn’t my first creepster rodeo. I’ve had to deal with a shady dude the bloody way before. And, to find my mom, I’ll do it again.

Scarred Heart and Sass is a sexy, snarky adventure in a magical world with witchy, occult flavor, full of unwanted alliances, unwelcome revelations and uninvited emotions.

This is book one of an urban fantasy series with a slow-burn, steamy romance subplot, adult language and adult themes.

I write about emotionally repressed, occasionally unhinged heroines who might accidentally burn the world down while trying to figure out their feelings. If they’re making questionable life choices for sexy, morally grey, supernatural reasons? Even better.

An American expat living in the UK with a mild addiction to plotting and worldbuilding new stories I don't have the time to write, I’ve spent most of my life as a high-functioning chaos creature (poorly) disguised as a responsible adult. My natural habitat is somewhere between “deep philosophical rabbit hole” and “feral gremlin hoarding obscure trivia and cursed story ideas.”

I'm into demons, darkness, and depravity—which probably says more about me than I should admit. But hey, I've never cared about that before, why start now? When I'm not writing about magical, steamy bedlam, I’m reading it. Or attempting to parent young humans without turning into a cryptid. Depends on the day.

Intriguing enough story to keep me reading the entire book. I do feel as if I’ve come in the middle of an already established universe and am playing catch up with mythos. Im wondering if this is a companion series and im missing the main one. Will have to check that out. Enjoying the story!

I do suggest reading Ignite, the prequel first. This book is a chaotic ride, so many things happening, for Silver to navigate. this is a fantastic start that has left me wanting more. There is a little heat and a great story. I am waiting at the cliff for the next book, but I am not bothered, it is a series. I Loved It!!! No Spoilers!

I read this whole book hoping to get some answers but then it ended. Silver is a discombobulated hot mess who stumbles through life unable to focus for an instant. Her character was slightly developed, but everyone else she interacted with was flat and static. Many things were alluded to but never explained. Also, given how powerful the sisters are together, it did not make sense for Silver to keep going off on her own. Just because she is impulsive, doesn't mean she is stupid.

I just met Silver and I love her so far. I can't wait to continue the series and see what happens. I wonder if she will get with Kaz or possibly Erik.....?? Can't wait to see if she finds her mom and gets some answers. 😊

Silver and her sisters are kick ass heroines. Her story is a wild ride. I'm left wondering what she, her sisters, and their mom really are. Alert! This is a cliffhanger.

But it was frustrating. She's never a witch when she needs to be. Like when facing danger. Then she uses no spells. Uses spells in her apt and amethyst house. In the coffee shop.

But demon in the club? Nothing. She thinks about what she needs to bind the demon and proceeds to just stand there while another witch does something. She finally unintentionally and then intentionally uses her ability to compel.

With the vampires literally nothing. In her apt she uses magic to light candles. She couldn't light a vamp up? Nothing?? She has to be saved.

It frustrates me. Why be a witch if you literally do nothing with it when it really matters?

She further frustrates me by doing nothing to not die. Runs around like a lone wolf even though we know she can't protect herself. Like bring your sisters already! She doesn't come off as suicidal but she's also doing nothing to live until Kaz basically forces himself along to keep her alive.

I don't want an overpowered heroine but I do want her to have power. This story has promise but it doesn't deliver enough for me to continue. I struggled to finish this one as is.

Great introduction to a character. I can’t wait for the next instalment. So many ways to spin off new stories as the characters are relatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new sassy witch has arrived... Meet Silver Wilde.

Lucky enough to have the author select me to do a read through before release and already eager for the next instalment.

Silver Wilde tracks down magical items which is usually easy and profitable, then everything begins to go a little bit chaotic when her mother disappears leaving Silver and her sisters to try and find out what has happened! Should be easy for three witches shouldn't it? Read and find out!

5.0 out of 5 stars One heck of a ride!

Silver Wilde is everything her name promises - glimmering with humour, snark and a heck of a wild time.

A Hekate-worshipping witch, Silver has the power of compulsion which can come in mighty convenient when she finds herself in the middle of a block-buster mystery - her mother is missing, a client won’t let her quit and she’s destined to die, if you believe in prophesy.

Of course, everything comes together in one big bang of an ending - and a cliffhanger, that just makes Silver’s world all the more interesting. And deadly.

This is a great series starter from Dahlia T. Drake. It’s well written and a nice change from the easily likeable characters I’m used to. That might sound silly but it’s true. Easily likable characters can fall into the part of my brain where they’re easily forgotten. Thankfully, Silver is not at any risk of that!

The other aspect I really enjoyed is the mystery surrounding Silver, her family, and their heritage. Often I can figure things out a bit ahead of the characters but this one had me stumped, good and proper, which I really enjoyed.

The only challenging part I found was keeping track of the time-travel part, but I feel like that comes with the territory of time travel 🤣

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to find the answers I’m looking for in Book 2!

Silver is an oddity that is intriguing
It took a little to get into the book, I thought I’d missed a prequel. But it really gels and grabs you in
