Hard Contact (Breed Thrillers Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,212 ratings

Thirty tons of gold. One brilliant heist.

The Medusa, a freighter carrying gold bullion worth two billion dollars, is hijacked off the coast of Greece. Using sophisticated technology, the hijackers make the vessel disappear. The CIA’s deputy director, Anya Stein, recruits Breed to locate the vessel and recover the gold.

Breed and Stein trace the missing vessel to the mouth of the Aegean Sea, between the islands of Rhodes and Crete. Realising Breed is on their trail, the hijackers do everything they can to stop him – permanently.

Breed and Stein enlist the aid of a Greek shipping magnate, his fiery daughter, and the
USS Pressley Bannon, currently based out of Crete. With their help, Breed uses all his Special Forces training to find the Medusa, break into the hijackers’ base, and serve the killers his own lethal brand of justice.

This time, it’s hard contact all the way.

Hard Contact —Book Eight in the stunning Breed action thriller series. Perfect for fans of Jason Kasper, Jack Carr, and Lee Child.

Mr curtis, breed, books just keep getting better and better. Read the complete set and you will be totally satisfied with these thrillers.

Very much enjoy the series, and will continue to read. It has been a very fun and terrific journey. And we’re all waiting for the retirement of Breed and Stein when they decide to finally go to the next level ;-)

This time however, there were numerous technical issues with the US Navy’s equipment, processes, and platforms. And these are all verifiable through open source, unclassified means.
    - SH-60B is the ASW variant- has no room for cargo or multiple passengers, nor gun mounts. MAD sensor is a towed body. None of the SH-60 variants can have all the sensors detailed in the story.
    - charts are almost exclusively digital on US Navy platforms. All charts have contours. They wouldn’t use a laptop, then acetate over a paper chart; that is ‘70’s tech.
    - MAD sensors do not give highly detailed images like described, and neither does military grade active sonar, active dipping sonar, or active sonobuoys. It’s be nice but it’s a long, long ways away.
    - DDGs, Cruisers, LCS, etc. don’t use whaleboats, RHIBs are all that the Navy uses. Whaleboats might be found on older carrier or command ships, but doubtful.
    - DDGs don’t have a SEAL team onboard except for a specific mission, then an MH-60 would be attached to ship.
    - DDG with a HUEY on deck, would not be able to operate other Helos; and no way to stuff a HUEY in the hangar (too large) while other aircraft is in flight, not to mention the HUEY’s rotors don’t fold.
    - Despite the popular Hollywood shows, a CO or XO of a ship would NEVER go onshore to support a mission.
    - and yes, for over a decade now, the US Navy typically has the XO (they are not called First Officer) serve onboard, then take command of the ship as the new CO.

Hard Contact was a very exciting book to read and follow the characters in the islands in Greece. This is the first book that I have read in the Breed series that is about the country of Greece and I found it very interesting of some of the things that were revealed in the story. Hard Contact talked about two families that were extremely rich and a country where they could monopolize everything for their own profit.

Kind of choppy, this one, but not terrible. Decent read. Could be a bit technical at times, which seems to be the bulk of the descriptive writing in the book.

I came across book 1 through a facebook advert link and after reading the synopsis bought it. It was so good I then bought the whole series (8 books in total) and binge read the lot. Absolutely fabulous reading throughout!! This has to be one of the best “ex special forces character doing good in the world” that I have come across. Breed is definitely a force to be reckoned with so many more books please Mr Cameron!!

An Investigator looking into the 'loss' of a ship with a cargo of gold ends up fighting for his life as well as having to climb a 400 foot cliff to try to rescue hostages. A well crafted and written story, with a good plot line and info on climbing. Worth the time spent on it.
