Born and raised in Western NY State, Shawna never expected to move too far from home. She craved adventure, but that adventure pretty much stayed in her head.

Then, after finishing college, she had the opportunity to spend a year in Australia, and she took it. She met her husband while there and now, close to two decades later, she lives in the middle of tropical Far North Queensland, about a kilometer from croc infested waters.

She and her husband have three kids and she still loves nothing more than staring out the window daydreaming and making up a good story.

    This was my first foray into the Christian subgenre of action/romance. At a glance, the plot is solid, the characters are realistic and unique, but the writing lacks experience. Frequently I found myself wishing for dialogue tags so I knew who was talking and what they were doing.
    THAT SAID, I'm impressed by the depth of the two main characters and the fact that their compatibility lies in much more than physical attraction. Their bantering is believable, and their arguments and actions betray their true feelings. Wayyy more satisfying than the old "he's hot, she's hot." Isla's blunt personality remains consistent, she is damselled on occasion but it's made clear that's not her usual MO. And her journey is not a struggle with if she should date him. It's a struggle with her insecurities and with her trust in God and in a man she's afraid to allow into her life.
    Jay is my absolute favorite male romantic protagonist I have seen in a LONG time. A strong, kickbutt ex-criminal yet an extremely sweet, jovial, caring man. So many green flags.
    Minor spoiler:
    The line of Jay describing that Isla "couldn't get more adorable" I had to read like four times because that kind of innocent affection is so rare in the romance genre. Ughhh it's so pure. I have no idea why it got me, it's such a sweet moment.

The reality of trusting God to do the miraculous-- when we DO call on Him and trust was portrayed from a very real perspective... these characters struggled like we do... with a bit more danger, yes, but I read two books in a week on vaca and loved them!!
