High Roller: Friends-to-Lovers High School Romance with Darker Theme (Elites of Eastview High Book 1) Kindle Edition
“She’s a gamble not worth losing. He is the High Roller.”
Axel
Five years ago I witnessed something I shouldn’t have, and it left a mark on me. To the outside world, I was the King of Eastview High - the rich and handsome womanizer. I had everything: money, girls, and fame. But deep down I was broken beyond repair. I could only shed my mask in her presence. My best friend, my soulmate, and the love of my life. Essie.
But how was I supposed to take the gamble of moving outside the friend zone knowing our pasts cast a dangerous shadow over us waiting to explode?
They called me the High Roller because I never blinked an eye with high stakes. But some stakes are just too high, and some gambles are not worth losing.
Gossip Girl meets Dynasty in this emotional and intense best friends-to-lovers high school romance with dark themes.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2022This book is deep. Its also a YA/NA book, so its dark for that kind of book as well. This book digs into many mental health issues from an array of reasons. Essie and Axel have been best friends since birth. Along with their other best friend Matt, we see the group attempt to take the reigns and build an off shoot of their fathers company. What better way to start, than a hotel in Vegas.
This book has the vibe of Gossip Girl, without the unknown secret, it very known who is behind the leaks here. This group is from the Upper East Side of New York, and elite is maybe even a down play. Essie and Axel are no exception. Axel is a playboy just biding his time to get Essie. They both want each other, but their past traumas and history is preventing a healthy relationship.
These two are the perfect high school sweetheart story, and the lengths they go for each other was phenomenal. I didn’t care for the fact that they blamed each other for things that couldn’t be controlled, but alas, high school miscommunication. Please keep in mind this book is YA/NA, therefore the spice is minimal compared to others taut I Review. It is by NO means a fade to black, buy just less explicit descriptions. Still has spice though, and these two have some major chemistry. 💥
Would definitely recommend!!! I now cant wait for Matt and Kiki!!!
⚠️ intense mental health issues, childhood abuse and suicid@l situations ⚠️
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2022Axel, Estella and Max have been the best of friends for years. Their fathers are all in business together. But things are changing as Essie and Axel both have feelings for each other and as they are in their last year of high school. I was sucked in and couldn’t stop reading to see what would happen next, but I also found it hard to connect with these characters and their actions. They are raised in the elite, wealthy crowd and a lot of time is spent on brand name dropping. I don’t mind reading about wealthy characters, but find it hard to fully enjoy them when they are and act entitled. I liked the chemistry and tension between Axel and Essie, and kept reading to find out how things would turn out for them, but at the same time, I found them both frustrating. Early on they internally announce their love for each other, but at the same time their actions don’t match those words. For being in love with Axel, even if keeping it only to herself, Essie didn’t show a lot of angst when Axel seeks out other girls even if it’s just for a hookup. Axel, despite thinking about how much he loves Essie and wants her to be happy, is harsh and puts blame on Essie over a situation from their childhood, but it makes no sense at all because she was living in a toxic abusive situation and was a very young child herself. Despite these things, I kept reading and still want to read the next one in this series when it comes out!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2022This is the first in a new series and what a fantastic beginning this story is. Axel, Essie, and Matt have been best friends forever. Axel is the wealthy playboy, who is the king of Eastview High, and Essie is his best friend, soulmate, and love of his life, but these two have never revealed their feeling for each other as they do not want to destroy their friendship. Matt is Axel’s cousin, and the third wheel in their close relationship, and reading between the lines, his story is going to be filled with suspense and heartbreak. This is a well written story which is a friends / lovers’, complex and in-depth storyline, which is dark, raw, gritty, and an emotional roller coaster, with drama, suspense, turmoil, angst, jealousy, challenges, and love, which leads to a riveting and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2022High angst, emotional rollercoaster and a love for the ages.
Essie and Axel—while perfect for each other—had a lot of baggage to work through to get to the other side. It wasn't always pretty—in fact, some of it was touch and go—but, with help they grew both in themselves and as a couple.
There were some very deep emotions during this book, some very hard topics discussed (trigger warning ⚠️) but Ms Kun did a fabulous job writing about them, I felt they were written about very considerately.
I am dying to know more about Matt (and his issues) I am most definitely looking forward to reading his book.
