About the author

Nicholas Forristal has a B.S. in Psychology (aka a B.S. in BS). With his "free" time, he regularly dislikes house work, remodeling his home and a sordid list of other lousy tasks. When no one is looking, Nicholas works on "The Chronicles of M," an ever growing series of fantasy books that range from historical fiction, horror, to modern day wackiness. There's also a bunch of comics out there with his name on them.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2013Hitori is a character introduced in the second book of the Chronicles of M series. I read it after reading book two, but this book is basically about the character Hitori and her back story. While it connects to the Chronicles of M world nicely, understanding it has no dependency on the series whatsoever. It takes place in an entirely different realm and age.
Fans of the M series will appreciate this book greatly, but it also stands apart as something closer to a classic Samurai adventure/fantasy tale than the contemporary urban paranormal fantasy of the Chronicles of M. This book details the training and early adventures of Hitori as well as her unique relationship to the weapon she carries. I enjoyed Hitori's story greatly, especially the way her history is connected to characters from the second book of the Chornicles of M.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2014This book will be of interest to anyone that has traveled in Japan or that have watched Samurai movies. HAVING spent five years in the far east, I found this book very interesting.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2013I was given this book by the author for review - and I loved it, as I have all the other books connected to The Chronicles of M.
This tale is rich in the telling, very well written and a wonderful background story of Hitori and how her warrior status is earned - the sword is particularly intriguing.
It is full of magic, enchantment, danger and mystery, with fabulous descriptions in a world brimming with mythical and monstrous enemies. Brought into this life by a god...oh, no, I don't give spoilers!
I loved this story from beginning to end and was hooked from the first page. A definite must read and highly recommended.
More please...:)
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2013I loved this. It is a fast-paced, historical fantasy adventure story with lots of action and mythical creatures. A well-told story that really puts you in the time period, without bogging you down with too many details. A great story if you haven't read Chronicles of M. But if you have, it gives you some background on a certain strange warrior woman who has an odd relationship with her sword. I just keep thinking how many years there are between the end of this story and Chronicles of M...
*I received a copy for my honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stand alone book!!!
Having read all the chronicles of M books so far I was intrigued when I found out the author was planning to write a stand alone book featuring some of the characters that we have met in the previous books although you don't actually need to have read any of the previous books to read this book.
This books gives you the back story of how Hitori and her weapon oni come together to battle evil demons and spirits all over ancient Japan in the name of Lord Bishamon.
I found the book to be well researched and well written and hopefully it will be the first of many stand alone books based on the characters from the main books.
If you haven't already bought this book by now then go buy it!!!!!
