How Not To Live Your Life: A comedy novel and self-help parody (The Legend of Cuthbert Huntsman, Unemployed Life Coach Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 86 ratings

What if we all get to make one final phone call after we die? What if Gen Z cancels the entire 20th century? What if Planet Earth has a twin called Martin?

Join the world’s worst life coach and learn the answers to these and many other stupid questions, as he embarks on a quest to discover the rules of failure.

Meet Cuthbert Huntsman, a bankrupt barfly with eight broken marriages who thinks he's wiser than Jordan Peterson and Deepak Chopra combined, but clearly isn't. He’s determined to chronicle the ludicrous life stories of eccentric losers and figure out how they went so spectacularly wrong. Crammed with useless advice, textbook blunders, and avoidable near-death experiences, Cuthbert is the Hans Christian Andersen of incompetence.

How Not To Live Your Life is the hilarious first book in The Legend of Cuthbert Huntsman comedy series. If you like crazy characters, surreal plot twists and outrageous parodies, you’ll love Rich Nash’s riotously funny novel.

Rich Nash was senior producer of Warner Bros’ and HBO’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts, which wasn’t intentionally funny but was Emmy-nominated (it lost to Adele). His TV shows have featured Meg Ryan, Hugh Grant, Vic Reeves, Jimmy Carr, Joe Wilkinson, Josh Widdicombe, Ross Noble, Sean Lock, Jarvis Cocker, Felix Dexter, Katherine Ryan, Bill Bailey, Jonathan Ross, Seann Walsh, Susan Calman, David Haye, Stephen Merchant, Christopher Lloyd, Will Self, Irvine Welsh, Ron Howard, and even John Noakes. He lives in London, read English at King’s College, Cambridge, and once had dreams of literary greatness before Cuthbert Huntsman ruined everything. He has a Jekyll and Hyde relationship with his useless guru Cuthbert, but they can't agree on which one is Jekyll and which one Hyde. This series is accompanied by extensive social media distractions offering an even greater abundance of terrible life coaching advice.

How Not To Live Your Life is pure comedic gold! Cuthbert Huntsman, the world’s worst life coach, had me in stitches from start to finish. The absurdity of his life lessons and the ridiculous questions he tackles—like whether Earth has a twin called Martin—make this a brilliantly entertaining read. With surreal twists, eccentric characters, and a delightful parody of self-help books, Rich Nash has crafted a novel that’s both laugh-out-loud funny and refreshingly original. If you love satire and humor, this one’s a must-read! It's one of the best fun books I have read in many, many years!

This witty comedy novel cleverly blends humor with self-help, offering a hilarious take on the pitfalls of modern living. The author’s sharp observations and relatable anecdotes make for an entertaining read, while simultaneously delivering insightful life lessons. The blend of satire and sincerity keeps the narrative engaging, ensuring plenty of laughs. Perfect for those looking for a lighthearted yet thought-provoking escape, this book is a delightful reminder to embrace life’s absurdities.

I really loved the way it was written. We all know people like that. It was fun to look on things from different point of view

This book takes self-help and tosses it out the window. The dialogue is pithy and full of very dry humor, turning even very mundane interactions lol moments. It’s witty, often capturing the absurdity of life in just a few lines. What I enjoyed most is how it pokes fun at those classic "life success" rules. Sure, you wouldn't want to follow Cuthbert's path, but it makes you question whether those self-help books have the answers either. It's a fresh, clever reminder not to take everything so seriously. Highly recommend!

This book is a witty and irreverent antidote to traditional self-help, offering a humorous perspective on life’s challenges through the lens of a hilariously flawed life coach. Its sharp writing and unique voice make it a thoroughly entertaining read, while still offering surprisingly insightful reflections on how we approach self-improvement. Perfect for those who enjoy humour with a side of wisdom, this book is both a laugh-out-loud and thought-provoking experience.

This book is a hilarious and absurd take on life’s failures, seen through the eyes of Cuthbert Huntsman, an unemployed life coach who’s anything but successful. The book is packed with strange and surreal humor, and it really pulls you into a world of ridiculous mistakes. I found it funny how Cuthbert believes he's wiser than top self-help gurus while clearly being a walking disaster.

Reading this made me think about how sometimes we can all take ourselves too seriously. The book is lighthearted and full of wild, unexpected turns. If you’re in the mood for something that doesn’t take life seriously and pokes fun at the idea of “success,” this book is a great choice. I received a free ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of this book and the review is my own.

I did find this book funny. However beyond just being a satire I didn't find it all that enjoyable. Possible it just wasn't my cup of tea. It's a playoff of career books with the hook being the advice is terrible. Might be more entertaining for others.

This book is a celebration of failure and imperfection. If you're ready to laugh at life’s most misguided moments, dive into Huntsman’s chaotic world—just don’t take his advice seriously!
