IB Diploma Programme Theatre Student Handbook
Purchase options and add-ons
The International Baccalaureate (IB) and the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) are thrilled and proud to announce the release of the Diploma Programme Theatre Student Handbook.
Written by experts to give students comprehensive coverage of the IB theatre guide, the Diploma Programme Theatre Student Handbook is a clear, practical and imaginative toolkit filled with practical activities and top tips for assessment. Providing students with everything they need for their IB theatre journey and reflecting a constructivist approach to teaching and learning, this title is intended to both supplement course delivery from a subject-specialist teacher and to help steer those students who are working independently.
Each chapter contains practical activities to stimulate inquiry-based exploration and is suitable for both individual solo exploration and collaborative group exercises. Each section deliberately highlights links to the IB’s Learner Profile attributes as well as reinforcing the responsibilities of the internationally-minded young theatre-maker in making ethical and sustainable choices in their theatre work.
With space provided throughout for the student’s own written reflections, illustrations and the journaling of their developing ideas and processes, this new handbook offers a valuable record of their ongoing learning.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2024A comprehensive and useful tool for all IB DP Theatre students and teachers, full of amazing resources as well as brilliantly organised.
The workbook looks at the course in depth, following the main concepts and skills that students need to cover: theatre-maker intentions, elements of performance and production, the skills needed to create Tension, Emotion, Atmosphere and Meaning, all seen through the main perspectives of Creators, Performers, Directors and Designers. The book provides a myriad of practical exercises to apply both inside and outside the classroom, guided by the teacher or by students themselves, giving them the opportunity to research and apply their learning in practice both individually and collaboratively.
The book also looks at all four assessment tasks, helping students to approach their evaluation instances with confidence. The workbook dissects the assessment criteria and gives students all they need to be able to approach the tasks having acquired the necessary skills.
Highly recommended. This book has personally helped me as a teacher to organise my course in a way that provides my students with the maximum opportunities for their learning and success.
