Chasing Shadows (Daemons of San DeLain Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,333 ratings

The monster: They say I am powerful. They say I am the darkness. They say I instill fear in the minds and hearts of many.

They’re right.

I am powerful. I am the darkness. I should be feared. Then I heard his cries and everything changed. Power can be tempered. There’s safety in the darkness. And the monster isn’t always the one under the bed.

Now only the heart and mind of one human interests me. He is mine. I wait, watching over him until the time is right to claim what belongs to me.

Austin: Do you believe there are monsters under the bed? I do. I don’t just believe; I know for a fact they exist. I’ve met one. Sort of. Okay, I haven’t actually seen the monster, I’ve only spoken to it.

Kind of hard to see much of anything when you’re hiding under the covers while waiting on your father to beat your ass. The monster saved me. Literally. He says I’m his, and he’s waiting for the right time to claim me.

Someone tell him to hurry the hell up.

Most entertaining! Austin was not scared of the monster under the bed. It was the humans that became monsters that he rightfully feared. Protector, friend, and eventually his mate, Mr. Monster was actually the best of the good guys.

Based on the description for Chasing Shadows I wasn't sure how this book would go, I am very happy I took a chance with it. I Loved this book and can't wait for the next in the series. The world building is good, I absolutely love the main characters! Great supporting characters and a story that keeps you fully engaged and wanting more. I recommend reading this book.

I loved this books. The pacing was perfect as was the world and character building. It ends with a happy moment for the couples but in smallish cliffhanger for the story line. I can’t wait for the next story.

This was an okay story, interesting premise but the characters were not my favorite and the plot didnt develop until the end. 90% of this story is explaining the world and is very expostional.

What first caught my eye was the phenomenal cover and the book didn’t disappoint! This was an awesome start to a new series set in a world with a slew of paranormals. I was really pleased with the world building and I was delighted with Austin and Kage! Their relationship was complex and is still building. I’m excited that the series is going to focus on them as they grow their lives together (I wasn’t ready for their story to be over at all).

The Daemons are super unique and their shadow abilities are awesome. I really enjoyed the fresh take on a new species of paranormal. There are also Dragons, mages, werewolves and more!

The plot is still ongoing and I can’t wait for the second book!

I read this on my Kindle Unlimited program. This was an excellent start to this trilogy. Austin first met Kage when he was a child. Page was the monster under his bed, who protected him from an abusive father, and as he grew up, his feelings for Kage grew also. This a love story between two individuals who accept their feelings for each other, and willingness to understand and accept each others differences. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book.

This is a great start to a new series and a fascinating take on daemon, other paranormals, and the politics among them. And the familiar nefarious corporation experimenting to create an army. Kage and Austin make a great couple and the way they meet, the monster under the bed, was perfect. Looking forward to more in this series, including Hudson finding his mate. Would also be good to see more of Alpha Noah and Jensen. Highly recommended.

I loved every minute of Kage and Austin's book. It was such a unique spin on the idea of a monster under a child's bed, and showed the difference between a "monster" and a true monster. Kage was a new type of paranormal I've never read before, which I always enjoy, and the unique spin on the other paranormals was the icing on the cake. I was glued to the book from the very first word, with the action, characters, twists and turns, and overall world-building. Austin is so curiously snarky, while Kage is tall, dark, and protective, and they fit so well together. I'm so excited this is going to be a series, and I can't wait for the next one!

I have only just discovered MA Church and I'm so glad I did.
All the characters are interesting - that they could all have their own books. Especially Hudson! But the main protagonists, Kang and Austin are so very likeable and interesting that I am thrilled that their story will continue.
    I just hope I don't have a long wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!
Reviewed in Canada on January 10, 2023
Very well written! Very descriptive and creates a clear picture in your mind as you go. Characters are very lovable and solid. The story does occasionally drag on as well as repeat some plot unnecessarily, but it doesn't last long nor distract too much from the important bits. Overall, it was a great read, and I can wait to read the next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Is editing dead ?
Reviewed in France on November 12, 2022
I liked the story, the concept of it, the writing. But come on, so many editing errors! It was terrible, really, from wrong names to sudden changes in attitude, to missing words and pretty much everything inbetween... Not the only author with this problem, but it's still disappointing.
