About the author

Ritu Bhathal was born in Birmingham in the mid-1970s to migrant parents, hailing from Kenya but with Indian origin. This colourful background has been a constant source of inspiration to her.
From childhood, she always enjoyed reading. This love of books is credited to her mother. The joy of reading spurred her on to become creative in her writing, from fiction to poetry. Winning little writing competitions at school and locally encouraged her to continue writing.
As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and teacher, she has drawn on inspiration from many avenues to create the poems that she writes.
A qualified teacher, having studied at Kingston University, she now deals with classes of children as a sideline to her writing!
Ritu also writes a blog, www.butismileanyway.com, a mixture of life and creativity, thoughts and opinions, which was awarded first place in the Best Overall Blog category at the 2017 Annual Bloggers Bash Awards, and Best Book Blog in 2019.
Ritu is happily married and living in Kent, with her Hubby Dearest, and two children, not forgetting the fur baby Sonu Singh.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2024In God’s Hands, is the third book in the Rishtay Series. This book revolves around Bali and Kiran. As the author says: “They had it all—except for that baby.”
To make matters worse, everyone in the family never lets them forget they don’t have a baby. The cultural aspects and the pressures from mothers-in-law and aunties would be enough to make any woman crazy. It wasn’t that they didn’t want children; they did! But sometimes things don’t work out.
There are plenty of trials and tribulations for Kiran. After several miscarriages, she begins to doubt her ability to have children. The couple visits a doctor for a consultation. They receive some helpful information. Even better, they begin to work together to make their dream of having a child a reality.
Yet, once they open up to the family about their troubles, there is real healing and growth. One of the more important parts of this story is how Kiran and Bali grow in their marriage.
At bedtime, I usually read for an hour or so, but I started this book and couldn’t put it down. What an emotional read. If you’ve ever had issues conceiving a child, you will relate to this story. This is a wonderful Christmas read!
Don’t forget to grab the tissues! 🥹

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read!
I've loved the first two books in the series and so I couldn't wait to read the third one and it didn't disappoint. It's a moving story of a couple's fertility journey and I found it to be an accurate portrayal of the journey. This book encompasses the complete range of emotions and is such a great read.
Ritu is such a brilliant writer that she really puts you right in the middle of the story, you can't help but be immersed in their lives. The result is that you really care for the characters as you share their highs and lows.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very heartfelt and emotional family story
In God’s Hands, the third book in Rishtay Series turns out as my favourite book of the series.
So well written in a unique way that author has developed is so realistic that I kept forgetting that it’s a fiction and felt deeply throughout Kiran and Bali’s journey of starting family. As tough and emotional ups and downs have been for them they tried to keep positive thoughts and appearances despite of cultural, family and community expectations that make a pressure piling up on them. Loved how Mrs Bhathal approached this sensitive subject of fertility with blunt truth, no veiled half truths. Everything feels real.
Loved the well developed characters especially Daddy-ji who appeared as the wise, thoughtful and gentle man, one who supported in the kindest way.
Well, I think I love just everything about this book filled with emotions, grief, sadness, love, laughter and fun moments but its essence is the hope that everything will be alright in the right time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my heart
this book 🥺🩷
This is book 3 in a companion series but unfortunately I didn’t have time to read the first two, this did however read really well as a stand alone! – well enough to give me all the feels! – it broke my heart, it made me cry.. it made me want to jump in the pages & give Kiran a cuddle or at least join the online forum and be a pillar of support for her!
The writing is so immersive that I genuinely felt like part of the family, there’s a lot of hard hitting topics dealt with in this book, done in a very sensitive way.
It shows the depths of the gossip mill within the culture that Kiran and Bali have grown up in and really shows the reasons why they hid their struggles from anyone including their closest family and friends.
At times I could feel the shame through the pages and it genuinely made me feel uncomfortable and uneasy that they could feel shame for something that was completely out of their control!
I definitely wasn’t ready for this book, but it’s one of my favourites of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Read
In this book we read about Bali and Kiran as they go on a journey that is emotional and has lots of unexpected moments.
They’ve been married a while now, and as yet they’ve not got any children. Bali’s Mummy-Ji never lets a time pass without making comments about this, as well as other people in the community.
But, what these people don’t understand is that, of course Bali and Kiran want nothing more than to have a child, but, whereas others find it easy to conceive, for them it’s not so.
Again, I really felt for the couple, especially when their family members and friends were informing them of their pregnancy. Yet that’s not happening for you.
The story was very well written and you could see how well it was researched.
I loved Daddy-Ji’s character, the person who was kind and gentle and always there for support to the couple.
It was lovely to see how Sunny was also there for Kiran and to see him and Milan in the story.
There was some fun moments, loved the dialogues Mummy-Ji came out with, but there was also some emotional times too.
