Etherious: Power's Price: A LitRPG Progression Fantasy Apocalypse (The System's Descent: Etherious Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,701 ratings

Two weeks have passed since the System's descent.

Humanity is adapting, some thrive, whilst others struggle to survive.

Arthur Ward has made quite the name for himself as one of the premier healers in all of America. Things are going well. He's growing into his strength and making strides towards unlocking a powerful class. Missing the Tutorial is quickly proving to be the best thing that's ever happened to him.

Unfortunately, peace cannot last. Nefarious groups have started coming out of the woodworks, people with no qualms of what or who they must sacrifice to fulfill their goals. They seem particularly interested in the name Arthur Ward.

Danger abounds and Arthur must navigate treacherous waters to chart the narrow path to success.

Power is the future's promise. All Arthur needs to do is live long enough to grasp it.

This is the second book in a LitRPG Fantasy series with 800,000 views on Royalroad. Perfect for fans of Defiance of the Fall, The Primal Hunter, and Road to Mastery!

Credits to my brother for the beautiful front cover, made with one of his Mandela artworks.

I started writing on scrap pieces of paper in a maths lesson. One paper became many, then I bought a lined book, and before I knew it, I had a story on my hands.

Things snowballed from there, and here we are now. Hopefully you enjoy my work.

I have to say that I’m baffled that Arthur, who has expressed such satisfaction in round numbers for his stats is so complacent with his Charisma and Perception stats being so close to 100 without bumping them up.

It’s amusing that Arthur keeps being so proud of himself for taking the time to set his foundation before recklessly leveling, and yet it’s only been a month since the system showed up - there is really nothing slow about his growth.

But this, in no way, detracts from my enjoyment of this story. I’m excited to see how Arthur will use the Locus to his ultimate benefit. And if this will help resolve the dissonance between the two halves of his personality.

    Some great ideas here.
Another interesting take on Earth being inducted into the system.
However, this story has way too much exposition.
E.g. - Taking 10 pages to run through a combatant’s emotional response in the middle of a life or death battle is simply painful.
It takes the reader out of the moment and you end up scrolling through pages of drivel to get to the outcome.
Frankly - this author could learn a lot from other authors on how to describe combat sequences and even simple dialog between characters is spoiled in the same way.

The story has stayed strong. Good overall world development. Character growth in MC and in secondary characters. I’m definitely pleased overall, and looking forward to this lasting several more if we’re all lucky! I see plenty of growth potential (in the storyline) here.

I'm really enjoying almost everything about the story of Arthur Ward. What I'm not enjoying is the overwhelming use of sighing wearily. There is a world of adjectives and synonyms that would make this story so much better.

Also, wary and weary are homophones. They do NOT mean the same thing.

A great sequel to a wonderful opening book. The hero makes good progress, hits a deadly challenge, and meets some new people. Odd that he didn’t connect with the first few, but things are happening fast.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Harsh but Honest Critique: Where Book 2 Went Wrong
Reviewed in Brazil on February 4, 2025
I have never felt so agonized in my life while reading this second book. What an endless waste of time.

Dear author, you need to improve your writing a lot—the way you structure the narrative, the temporal flow of dialogue.

You spend too much time on character introspection, repeating obvious things, or inserting dialogue and thoughts that add nothing to the plot.

The reading becomes exhausting. Readers get the impression that you're either just trying to fill space or don't know what you're doing.

The fight and action scenes are weak. They lack the necessary emotion. Events don't unfold smoothly.

The protagonist’s childish and insecure personality is painful to endure.

You really need to fix this, because any experienced reader will notice these and other major flaws in your work.

Book 1 started with a clear focus, but in Book 2, it feels like you lost your way.

The way books and chapters end follows no logic. The book has no beginning, middle, or end.
