- constantly feel as if you’re bluffing your way through and faking it, and you wish your mind would just stop taking you down.

- Take charge of your automatic thoughts, stop overthinking, and use the true power of your feelings to break your negative spirals

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2025“Letting Go of Imposter Syndrome” is an absolute must-read for anyone who has ever felt like a fraud despite their accomplishments. Unlike other self-help books that rely on surface level affirmations, this book offers a deep, transformative approach to tackling imposter syndrome at its root.
The author masterfully breaks down how conditioning, perception, and thought patterns shape our self-doubt, offering practical strategies to shift our mindset. The Kintsugi analogy, embracing our flaws as part of our beauty, sets the tone for a journey of self-acceptance rather than just “fixing” ourselves.
Each chapter is structured with thought-provoking insights and actionable steps, making it easy to apply the lessons in real life. I particularly appreciated the sections on mind-talk, emotional signposts, and tiny daily habits, which provide a realistic, sustainable path to lasting change.
This book doesn’t just offer solutions, it redefines success, self-worth, and authenticity in a way that feels liberating. If you’ve struggled with self-doubt, overthinking, or feeling like you don’t belong, this book will empower you to break free and embrace your true self. Highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2024In " Letting Go of Imposter Syndrome," Serena Choo offers a refreshing and insightful approach to tackling the pervasive feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy that plague so many individuals. With empathy and expertise honed over 25+ years as a personal leadership coach, Choo delves into the root cause of imposter syndrome and provides readers with practical strategies to overcome it.
One of the book's greatest strengths lies in its emphasis on addressing the root cause of imposter syndrome rather than merely treating the symptoms. Choo astutely observes that many self-help books only scratch the surface of this complex issue, inadvertently leaving readers feeling even more frustrated and misunderstood. By delving deep into the underlying causes of imposter syndrome, Choo empowers readers to confront their insecurities head-on and embrace their true potential.
Throughout the book, Choo shares invaluable insights gleaned from her own journey grappling with imposter syndrome, as well as her work with countless successful clients. Readers will appreciate the author's candid approach and practical advice, which are grounded in real-world experience rather than abstract theories.
One of the book's standout features is its emphasis on emotional intelligence and mindfulness. Choo demonstrates how cultivating emotional awareness and mindfulness can help individuals break free from the cycle of negative self-talk and automatic thoughts that perpetuate imposter syndrome. By providing readers with tangible techniques for managing stress and anxiety, Choo equips them with the tools they need to navigate challenging situations with confidence and grace.
Moreover, Choo addresses common misconceptions surrounding imposter syndrome, such as the notion that seeking external validation or attempting to "fake it till you make it" will lead to genuine confidence. Instead, she encourages readers to embrace their authentic selves and let go of unrealistic standards of perfectionism.
Readers will also appreciate the practical resources included in the book, such as downloadable worksheets designed to help implement the strategies outlined within its pages. These resources serve as invaluable tools for readers seeking to apply Choo's insights to their own lives and experiences.
In conclusion, "Letting Go of Imposter Syndrome" is a must-read for anyone grappling with feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy. With its compassionate approach and actionable advice, this book offers a roadmap to authentic confidence and lasting fulfillment. Whether you're struggling personally or professionally, Choo's insights will empower you to overcome imposter syndrome and embrace your true potential.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2025This book really spoke to me. I always think it is heartbreaking how often people doubt themselves, and this book will give them the tools needed to get to the other side. A great book to overcome self-doubt and start believing in yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2024As the title suggests, this is a book for anyone interested in self-improvement. In particular, combating what the author calls “impostor syndrome.” In layman’s terms, this is the act of not living up to our full potential due to living a life of never-ending self-deprication.
If you’re to accept this theory, the “imposter” as opposed to the “real” you, the one who ideally is an optimist and full of potential, is the person you’ve become, after a lifetime of both conscious and subconscious self-criticizing. Often unjustly so. This in turn leads to doubt. Plus, a host of negative feelings that create a false sense of self. The “imposter,” to paraphrase the author. The person who is not the “real you.”
Author Serena Choo goes into detail about how this came to be. In a word, whether it is Nature vs Nurture, in which she states that it’s nurture. Or, in short, it is a reflection born out of the environment in which we are raised.
Choo asserts that from our earliest days, our parents, friends, teachers, the schools we go to, the media, etc., in a word, all external factors and elements, have a profound effect on shaping the individual we turn out to be.
No one in his right mind can argue that isn’t true. However, for many, these outer factors shape them into individuals who, although they may appear self-assured, they often struggle in lives of doubt. Lives in which they harbor a host of limiting thoughts that reduce them to a fraction of who they genuinely are. In short, it masks the true self, the one who, deep down on the inside, becomes buried in a host of contrary and limiting thoughts.
Not only does “Letting Go of Imposter Syndrome” go into detail about this, it presents several suggestions and exercises for combating this malady.
Overall, it is well-written and edited. If I’m to nitpick, I found just a couple to three typos that got past the editors. So, it’s not perfect, yet it’s quite close to being so. I thus give it a top-shelf rating as far as self-help/self-improvement books go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great self-help book, easy to follow exercise that make a difference
My wife came across a TED talk about something called the imposter syndrome and immediately recognised me. After looking into a number of self-help books on this topic, I came across this book and can definitely say that I made the right choice. The book is well written, easy to understand, explains the concepts very clearly and the exercises are simple, yet very effective. I am only on exercise 9, but have already started to notice a difference - the book has opened my mind to recognising automatic thoughts and behaviours, which is now allowing me to work on changing the perspective. Looking forward to getting through this book. Note that the book comes with additional material available to download, which was a great bonus!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great deep dive into imposter syndrome
This book is the real deal. Apart from the everyday language used by Serena Choo, the flow of content is also good. Some self-help books have too much information packed in, or they use a lot of words without saying anything of real meaning or value to the reader. This book is different. I actually told a friend of mine that I was reading this book and she said, "Doesn't everybody sort of have impostor syndrome today?" At first, I laughed but then soon realized she might be right there. Anyway, this book is a great deep dive into this condition. Plus, I like the bonuses that came with this book!
