Chasing Harlow Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,316 ratings

What started as a bet can only end in heartache.

Moving to the middle of nowhere right before my senior year wasn’t ideal.
Then again, neither was my brother dying.
The move was supposed to be a fresh start.
A new town, a new school, a new mindset.
Too bad my past indiscretions followed me.
Enter Jace Rivera, the literal boy next door.
Jace is loved by the town. Admired by his peers. Worshipped by his teammates.
On the basketball court, he’s a god amongst men.
Off the court, he’s… nothing at all like I expected.
He’s profound and pure and… devastatingly tortured.
Yet somehow, he offers me light while I offer him hope.
In the end, we’ll either hurt or heal each other.
There’s no in between.
“Pain is the price we pay for love,” he once told me.
And a broken heart is the consequence of it.

"In the company of darkness, Jace Rivera becomes my light." Chasing Harlow delves deep into Harlow and Jace's journeys as they navigate daily life, family dynamics, new and old friendships, and their evolving relationship. Jay beautifully captured the essence of growing up, love, life, heartbreak, and everything in between! She weaved each of these elements into a seamless and captivating story with so much depth that kept me completely hooked from start to finish. My OTH loving heart couldn't help but envision Nathan Scott & Brooke Davis the entire time. I already know I will be coming back to reread this one often! These two will live rent-free in my head for a long time! "I chased her until I had her in my arms, and once she was there... I didn't want to let her go." TLDR: Chasing Harlow is a beautiful story about growing up, love, life, heartbreak, and everything in between! Jace Rivera is THE basketball player in town & most popular boy at school. Harlow Greene is the new girl, one trying to escape past mistakes. Living next door to each other, Harlow and Jace find solace and support in each other's company as they navigate life's ups and downs.

This book had me laughing and crying. It is truly one of the best books I’ve read all year! The character development is perfect, and you truly feel as if you know Harlow and Jace. Life is messy, and this book shows it! Thank you Jay McLean for writing this!

Wow, have I missed having pages of this author's words and getting caught up in her stories! When Chasing Harlow dropped I knew it was going to be so special. The writing here is everything! This author has such a unique vibe that pulls her readers in, and she blows you away with intricate and magical storytelling. From start to finish, her craft is special, and she fills pages with flawed yet relatable characters. It isn't easy to find this same vibe from other books which is why when she delivers a new book, whether in a few months or a few years...I stop and clear my schedule to settle in. Jay McLean makes me remember why I love to read. I remember how good writing can make you forget everything around you so that you can get lost in the words. This is what Jay McLean does. Harlow and Jace will just consume your thoughts. They will make you hold your breath. They will make you smile, and they will definitely make you cry. Just when you think you can't read any more words, she delivers an epic romance that is so real and raw. I hope she never doubts her ability to deliver to her readers as this one hits, BIG!

    Wow.

This is a beautiful story! There are some hard, real-life pieces to these characters. I adore Jace & Harlow, and the friendship they almost accidentally build. As we share in their journey to falling in love, to healing, to safety, to light ... there were tears & humor, and so much HEART. I fell in love along with them!

Highly emotional read, & I'm so very thankful for these characters & the storylines!

And I'm leaving it there, bc some things are just to spoilery to share, & you need to experience them without expectations, I think.

    😍😍😍

This book was so much more than I anticipated.
Raw. Ugly. Unfiltered. Heartbreaking. Tragically beautiful.
The writing, the story, the characters; everything was all of that, wrapped into one.

I laughed, I cried, sometimes both at the same time. If there’s one thing this story does; it’s make you FEEL.

Jace and Harlow both happen to find each other at a time they need it most.
Jace has spent most of his life in solitude, aside from the teammates he plays with. He keeps his distance, not only because he doesn’t know how to socialize, but also because he doesn’t want others to get too close and become aware of what’s happening at home.
Harlow is new to town but is running from her past while carrying the heavy loss of her older brother. She’s working through her own grief when she realizes that Jace might just be the light that leads her out of the darkness. Little does she know, as time goes on, Jace begins to wonder if she might be the light/hope he gave up on trying to find a long time ago.

This story does hit some heavy topics so please be sure to check trigger warning. If you can handle it, I HIGHLY recommend you give this one a chance.

My first read by McLean and will definitely not be the last. I am ready to jump into another by her.
Harlow and her parents move to a new town to get a new start.
Jace is one of the best if not the best basketball player at his school. He is on the quiet and reserved side and happens to be Harlow's neighbor.
I was hooked from the beginning and there were some shocking revelations I didn't see coming.
But more than that this story is about grief, healing, love, and finding the light in the darkness.
Jase and Harlow build their relationship around trust and friendship. From neighbors and classmates to coworkers. They each hide little pieces of themselves but slowly lean on the other without even meaning to or realize it. As pieces of themselves are revealed they navigate through the emotions and discussions that need to be had.
The way this story unfolds for these characters that have been put into situations that forces them into adulthood faster than they should is written in such a beautiful natural way. I loved the pacing and thought that went into the story.

No lie this book took me a minute to get into (a first for me and one of Jay's books!) But it was such a good story. This one was a lil closer to home as I recently lost my mom to dementia and it's such a horrible disease I would never wish upon anyone. My heart hurt for Jace & Grandpa. And then the love the town showed. Such a happy ending to heartbreaking beginning.

A good romance, as someone who is autistic I thought jace was 🤷‍♀️ he was blunt and pretty uncaring but then all the sudden he was protective and funny? His character switched to often but I liked Harlow, pretty interesting character development. I hate the mother in this book which I will assume everyone else does! Anyways good book!

What are you supposed to write in this box when words completely fail you because anything you write doesn’t feel good enough to describe just how much this story means?
This book is the truest gift to any reader that reads for the feels. With emotional scenes that take you on the very wildest ride. How is it possible to laugh, cry and scream all at once? And to anyone who craves that ‘soul shredding’ kind of experience that you know a YA novel can bring, this book is without a doubt made for you.
This is a story that rips you apart and so very carefully puts you back together and it brings all of my favourite things- small town/boy next door, opposites attract, trauma/healing, found family. Chasing Harlow is so very beautifully written, with a promise of heartache that Jay McLean masterfully delivers and a promise of healing that this author knows exactly how to do for her readers.
This beautiful story, and its complex lead characters, Jace and Harlow, will be sure to stay with you forever and secondary characters who match their importance creating a family that are truly unforgettable.
Chasing Harlow is beyond anything I could have ever wished for.
It’s a book I will return to over and over again! Jay McLean the Soul Snatcher strikes hard with this! Wow!

Oh how I adored this story, it was like a hug in a book ❤️

Jace and Harlow are the kind of characters who take up a permanent space in your heart. Their love story made me cry, more than once and then had me smiling like a loon.

It’s a beautifully character driven story with flawed characters and the importance of found family. Of believing in yourself and opening your heart to people, even when it’s scary.
