"THE WEE ONES" by Darryl Hughes: Part Two: A Supernatural Irish Folk Horror Thriller about Blood Thirsty Little Creatures--THAT BITE!!! Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

"A MUST READ FOR FANS OF MYSTERIES AND FOLK HORROR." - NP CUNNIFFE, AUTHOR OF "THE WEEJEE MAN".

"...IT'S A WELL WRITTEN HORROR STORY WITH FANTASTIC CHARACTERS, BLOODY KILLS, AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT" - HORROR READS, 5 STAR AMAZON/GOODREADS REVIEW.

"IT'S LIKE STEPHEN KING'S VERSION OF GREMLINS." - THE DANSE MACABRE

While on a research expedition in the wilds of the Irish countryside, a team of archeologists are brutally murdered on an ancient druid henge. The bite marks found on the bodies by the forensic techs that gathered the crime scene evidence suggested that animals were responsible for the attack. Simply that. Animals. But the tiny bloody fingerprints that were also found on the bodies suggested an entirely different and much more sinister perpetrator altogether: Human beings.

Or some-thing that used to be human. Some-thing primal and savage with teeth and claws like animals, but also cunning and intelligent with fingerprints like human beings.

And, most disturbing of all, some-thing the size of small children. The same small children who's murdered souls supposedly haunt the wood where the research team was killed.

The same small children who's murdered souls do not abide trespassers.

While investigating the case in a small, off the beaten path township named Enniskregg, Dublin Murder Squad detectives Siobhan Ryan and Seamus O'Connell will follow the blood stained evidence through small town secrets, mysterious religious sects, and deep into the dark recesses of Irish myth, legend, folklore--And blood thirsty little creatures that bite!!!

Part two of a serialized horror story.

From the Author

When David slowly and cautiously stepped out of his house, onto the deck of his front porch, and back out into the night it was with his Winchester SX4 12 gauge shotgun and a pocket full of extra buckshot shells at the ready. He had heard all of the whispers and gossip going around town about those outsiders, the campers, or researchers, or whatever, and what had happened to them in the wood. In the dark wood. Animals had at them, the whisperings began. Or worse, they continued. And for those who knew the town's long history and their families place in it, all of the town's families places in it, those people knew that more then likely it was worse.

    Much worse.

But David wasn't one of those people. There were far too many problems in the present then to waste precious time worrying about the problems of the past. But as the baaing that had drawn David out of his house became a shrill shriek that now drew him, shotgun held at the ready, off of his porch and out onto his farm, edging slowly closer to the sheep pen; dew like beads of a nervous sweat began to dot David's forehead as he slowly began to consider that perhaps he should have worried more in the past about the past.

Because now he was worried...In the present.

In the pen before him, David could see the panicked sheep herd huddled together against the near side of the sheep pen fence in a nervous mass. Some bumping into one another as if looking for room enough to run away. Others rearing up on their hind legs as if trying to jump up and over the fence and get away. But get away from what, David's mind asked him. There was just so much of the pen that he could see through the mass of huddled sheep. And even less in the dark distant part of the pen. But whatever it was, whatever was panicking the sheep, it was in the dark of the distant part of the pen.

The part of the pen where the shrill shrieking kept coming from.

David held his shotgun high as he walked up to the pen, ready to pull the trigger and fire at the first sign of any
thing having a go at one of his sheep. As David came toward the panicked sheep, his nearness parted them with a Moses like effect, revealing the rest of the shadow etched pen behind them.

And the act of utter savagery being played out within it.

At the far end of the sheep pen, standing just within the last glimmers of light emanating from the house reaching beyond it's grasp into the pen, was a scared, snow white wooly little lamb. It was facing away from David and the light coming from the house, but it's tiny head turned in quick, jerky back and forth movements as it noticed David's presence while being unable to tear it's eyes away from whatever was still covered by the darkness at the end of the pen. It was the little lamb that David had heard shrieking so shrilly. As he climbed into the pen and made his way through the nervous huddle of sheep, the little lamb began to come toward him, shrieking at the very tops of it's lungs as it neared him. Almost as if it was asking him for help.

And that's when David saw it...The dark little thing.

“The Wee Ones" by Darryl Hughes: A Serialized Horror Novella

The second installment of "The Wee Ones" takes the story to new heights of suspense. After five archaeologists' bodies are found at an ancient Druid site, detectives are sent to a quiet Irish village. The sight of the dismembered remains and tiny footprints raises a chilling question: Clearly this is no ordinary murder.

As the detectives investigate, more strange and eerie deaths occur, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

If you're a fan of horror with a fast-paced style and don't mind some gore, this is a must-read.

    Synopsis:

While investigating the bizarre murders of a team of archaeologists, Dublin Murder Squad detectives Siobhan Ryan and Seamus O’Connell find themselves with more questions than answers. Some of the evidence suggests an animal attack, while the rest points to human involvement. When they attempt to remove an ornament stained with blood as evidence, the ranking garda officer of Enniskregg erupts in anger. Despite proper investigative procedures, he insists they return it. Determined to adhere to protocols, the detectives refuse. That night, something stirs from the henge, intent on playing cruel games.

    Review:

The second part of the story intensifies with the ongoing investigation. Once the circle surrounding the henge is disturbed, whatever the town council hides attacks. The pace has begun to quicken. Siobhan’s pregnancy is likely to complicate matters. The story is intriguing, and I need to start part three.

A great follow-up to part one. This time, detectives Siobhan Ryan and Seamus O'Connell dive even deeper into creepy Irish myths and legends, uncovering more dark secrets. Just like the first book, this one pulls you in with vivid descriptions, tons of tension, and a spooky vibe that makes it impossible to put down. If you’re into folklore and horror, you’ll love how Hughes keeps the mystery and supernatural twists perfectly balanced. Definitely a page-turner!
