Editorial Reviews

Review

Bookworm for Kids, hosted by Tonya Decker:

The joy of being outdoors and wonder of nature's variety comes across with playful excitement and a calming sense of gentleness...

After introducing a young girl in a city, listeners follow her on a trip with her class to the forest. ...each scene brings across a sense of wonder and familiarity as the girl not only explores and plays with the other children, but the animals and vegetation are also brought across in a cheerful and more detailed light.

With inviting watercolor illustrations, the forest opens up in a way which will have listeners wishing they could go on a trip there, too.

The text flows with poetic feel while bringing across the fitting emotions to lure listeners in, and the final page ends with a sense of peace and calm. It makes a lovely read-aloud and will also work well for a snuggled story time.

When she was younger, one of my granddaughter’s favorite books was The Hugging Tree so when I heard Jill Neimark had a new kids book out I wanted to read it.

This lovely book brings you to the forest and guides you on a meditation journey of forest bathing. I can see this book becoming a favorite of children, too. It is now on my list for gift giving.

Thanks Jill for another beautifully crafted book.

Brought back fond memories of my time in nature in the Adirondacks as a kid. The story was poetic and the artwork beautiful.

Jill Neimark has another hit with Forest Joy, a book about enjoying the calmness of nature through the 5 senses. With rhythmic text and vivid illustrations, young children can appreciate the sights, sounds, smells, and feel of a cool, summer forest, along with the taste of a little tea. Loved the little incidentals throughout, too! The book and its companion activity guide are a great way for scouts, classrooms, and families to step away from the screens and steep themselves in the great outdoors. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed Neimark's "The Hugging Tree," as did my kids. Like with that book, "Forest Joy" might be on I buy extra of to donate to our elementary school library. I particularly love the gentle encouragement of an embodied experiences of nature--feeling the air, wiggling toes in the water, and especially the insightful, beautiful line that we breathe the forest, and it breathes back. Lovely!

The Hugging Tree, by Jill Niemark is a favorite of my 4-year-old granddaughter (as well as a favorite of mine) so I was excited to read "Forest Joy" with her. This beautifully illustrated book did not disappoint. We love it! "Forest Joy" takes the reader on a peaceful journey into the forest and reminds us of our connection to nature. It is poetic and poignant, and I imagine, appealing for all ages. "Forest Joy" is a joy to read, and in this reader's humble opinion, exactly what the world needs right now.

This is a visually beautiful, gentle, thoughtful book that introduces the concept of forest bathing. Being in nature is refreshing for both bodies and minds--but in today's busy, stressful, and mostly urban lives, few people make time to spend significant time in nature. This lovely book encourages us all, but especially kids, to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful book!

Forest Joy was a fun read with touching moments and sweet watercolour illustrations. I had never heard the term "forest bathing" so that was a bonus for me. My two-year-old neighbour, next door, saw the new book in my hands and asked for it. She refused to give it back, so I guess I'm ordering another, ha ha.
