- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2017A good start to this series. The first book, "The Shoulders of Giants", was exactly what I like: a traditional PI novel with a detective who is just a bit different. "Bad Memory" picks up where the first book left off. The story is a bit gritty, a bit dark, and a whole lot of just plain good old PI novel. I hope Mr Cliff continues the adventures of Jake Abraham, because I'd love to have more.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2017We obviously have a new series going on here. The first book is not bad. A decent read if not a spellbinder.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2018I too received this ebook free in exchange for an honest review.
I began this book while waiting at an orthodontist visit with my daughter and completed it within a few hours. The book is easy to read and has short chapters which reminded me of any James Patterson book. While reading the book I could visualize the story like a well written detective show. While one could determine what was coming next throughout, for the most part, there were enough twists and turns to keep it original and memorable.
I did not know that this was Book 2 and look forward to reading Book 1 and any future Jim Cliff books.

---
This novella is precisely what I needed—I'd just finished two long-ish reads that were pretty heavy and taken a lot out of me emotionally. This was quick, satisfying, and filled with some snappy writing. It was a nice change of pace and tone, giving me the chance to catch my breath before diving into another full novel.
Even if it didn't serve that purpose for me, I'd have been glad to read this—it scratches that P.I. itch in just the right way.
There was a moment when I thought that the book was trying too hard to convince me that Suspect X was guilty, and so I started to wonder who else it could've been. But then I remembered that this was a novella and Cliff didn't have space to be that clever—so I shifted to trying to figure out why X was guilty. If he'd had another 100+ pages in the book and X was still guilty, I'd likely have complained about it. But given the space restraints, I have no problem with X.
Short, sweet, and to the point. This novella got the job done and makes me wish that Cliff wrote faster.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2017A story that draws you in and keeps you wanting to read to find out where the plot is going to go and what's to happen next. I do hope the author continues this series as it is well worth the read, thus far. If you like PI mysteries with a touch of grit, that takes you to the "dark" in a well developed plot then most definitely read Bad Memory.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2017Loved it!
The book is easy to read, I finished it in one day. The story is interesting and the characters are well developed. Jake Abraham is likeable and with good sense of humor. Now I want to read the first book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2017This review is based on the advance copy so things may be a little different in the final one. I plan to read it to find out. I liked The Shoulders of Giants so much I was thrilled to find out there was going to be a new book with Jake Abraham. Bad Memory is another great hard-boiled detective story with the same classic feel as Shoulders. Even though we still don't know what Jake looks like, I really didn't care. The character is so well rounded and complete, I feel like I can see him just fine. A lot of the secondary characters are fun, too, like the poker gang. There were some nice twists to the plot, and every time I thought I had it figured out, there's another twist! Right up to the end. The pacing was well plotted and the action scenes are full of terrific description and emotion. I really enjoy Jim Cliff's writing. I hope he'll give Jake another outing sometime soon.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2017I was captivated by this novella. It was like peeling off the layers of an onion. Just when I thought I knew where the plot was going, something unexpected popped up. A good read.
