Review
The final part did not disappoint. Fast paced, constant twists and turns and a satisfying conclusion that had the benefit of being far more credible than some storytellers try to get away with.
I feel the reader does have to have read the first two books to fully understand the back story. I actually re-read the end of Aftershocks to remind myself of the situation as Jericho Rose continues immediately onwards from that point.
Although aimed at "Young Adults", the writing is of a very high standard and I am certain Jericho Rose would be enjoyed by more mature readers, especially given the world in which we find ourselves in April 2020.
Everyone, stay safe!
A WISHING SHELF BOOK REVIEW29th April 2020 TITLE: Jericho Rose
AUTHOR: Phill Featherstone Star Rating: 4.5
CATCHY QUOTE
'A fascinating, thought-provoking insight into a post-plague world.' The Wishing Shelf
REVIEW
In a world battling the coronavirus, this novel - the third in the trilogy - is oddly relevant. Set in a post-plague world, the survivors must find a way of moving on. But liberty is endangered by a dictatorship-style government which is keeping the citizens in lockdown and trying to find a way of overcoming the problems of infertility. The characters in the story want answers we, living in this world, also want: Can life ever return to normal? Do governments ever have the right to control what we do and where we go?
The author of this trilogy, Phill Featherstone, is a very accomplished writer. Having enjoyed all three of the books, I can honestly tell you that this story is gripping. Not only that, it's also thought-provoking. The author attempts - and is mostly successful - in offering a compelling thriller, charismatic, often introspective characters and, most importantly, a pertinent dilemma for them to overcome.
Would I recommend this book? Totally. Who to? Well, anybody who enjoys post- apocalyptic thrillers will find this a compelling story. I suspect many people will get a lot from this thoughtfully-written novel. And, of course, anybody who is looking for answers as to how the world gets out of this mess it is presently in might find this trilogy food for thought. Which, I guess, is pretty much everybody!
Enjoy!

About the author

Phill alternates between writing, drinking coffee, and playing the saxaphone (badly) - not always in that order. He lives in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England with Sally, his wife and partner of more years than they can count.
Phill is the award winning author of a number of novels and short stories.
'Paradise Girl', Book 1 of Phill's REBOOT trilogy, is set in the northern hills where, amidst the majestic beauty of the rolling moors, a world pandemic consigns a lone young woman to a bleak future. In Book 2, 'Aftershocks', her twin brother sets out to discover the truth behind the infection. REBOOT concludes with 'Jericho Rose'. By now the pandemic is over and it's time to rebuild. However, there are a selfish few who seek to exploit the situation for their own ends and this risks losing the little that's left.
Phill's fourth novel, 'The God Jar', is a tale of magic and mystery which straddles 16th century Europe and 20th century England. John Dee, Elizabethan sorcerer and mystic, finds a jar which he discovers has supernatural powers. 400 years later it resurfaces when a pair of honeymooners come across it on a diving trip. But have they found the jar or has it found them?
In 'What Dreams We Had!' a group of young people are offered a fantastic holiday in Italy, but once there they are forced to confront uncomfortable truths about who they are and what's important to them, and to wonder whether anything they thought was real actually is.
In 'I Know What You're Thinking' a pair of teenagers share the ability to see into each other's mind. When one of them is kidnapped the other must use this gift to find them, but nothing is easy in this taut thriller.
The Leopard's Bane series consists of 3 titles which tell the story of a family feud and a struggle between two brothers, one bent on selfish advancement and the other seeking to correct a corrupt society.
'Butterflies' is the tale of a girl from a sheltered background and her trials in attempting to come to terms with the world.
Phill has also written a book of short stories, 'Undiscovered Countries' which is free to subscribers to his his email newsletter. Details are on his website.
Phill is a member of The Society of Authors, The Alliance of Independent Authors, Promoting Yorkshire Authors, Sheffield Authors, and The British Library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast moving but thought provoking adventure
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe third in a trilogy, Jericho Rose is the best of them all. Fast paced, with credible characters and situations, the setting is particularly appropriate for today; a deadly virus has killed off most of mankind, leaving a few thousand survivors. Eventually an emerging central authority corrals those left into a few communities dotted around the country and in the process becomes increasingly authoritarian and corrupt. It is in this situation that the book follows the story of two main but separate characters as the authority tries to manipulate them to its own ends and as they struggle to resist. What follows contains plenty of action but is also a thoughtful examination of the challenges and alternative possibilities that would confront survivors in such a situation and it is in this that I found the book to be most interesting and thought provoking. The author also gives us well researched information about the nature of viruses, something I found particularly relevant given our present struggle with Covid 19. Not that this is a book is aimed only at the serious minded; at heart it is an action packed dystopian adventure story and deserving of a wide audience. Definitely 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous conclusion to the trilogy.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHaving very much enjoyed the first two books in the series (Paradise Girl and Aftershocks) I was looking forward to reacquainting myself with Lander & his friends (and foes).

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect ending!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCould not wait for the release of this third and final stage of Landers journey. I was not disappointed - what a fabulous ending depicting that there is always light at the end of the tunnel with the help of friends.
We are ourselves experiencing a very real global pandemic at present and having to make changes to our daily lives, the final page of Jericho rose made me smile with hope that we too will find a vaccination and rebuild normality.
