Role-playing has never been so irresistible in this lesbian fake-relationship romance with a plus-sized heroine.

What happens when an overachieving psychologist with OCD tendencies and an impulsive, out-of-work actress start a fake relationship?

Claire Renshaw thought she had it all: a successful career as a couples therapist, a publishing contract for her self-help book, and a happy relationship. But her perfect world falls apart when her fiancée calls off their engagement. Because of that, even her book deal might be off the table. After all, readers don’t want relationship advice from someone who can’t even make her own relationship work.

So Claire sets out to hire herself a fake fiancée.

Lana Henderson, the actress who shows up to audition for the role, is not exactly Claire’s ideal woman. Her frankness and the messes she leaves everywhere drive Claire up the wall. At least she won’t fall in love with someone like Lana.

But soon, Lana starts to win her over with her big heart, tickle fights, and—gasp!—carbs after six. The longer they pretend to be a love-struck couple, the less fake their kisses feel and the more the lines between reality and role begin to blur.

Once the book contract is signed, will they walk away or is their relationship no longer just for show?

Jae never ceases to deliver a riveting story. This was a classic fake relationship which turned fairly fast into a true relationship. The story shows how one can change if the motivation is strong enough. Love is a very powerful motivator. I love how Jae keeps all of prior friends in the story because you really get the sense of continued friendship and relationships.

I found this book moved right along and got going right from the beginning. Given that this is set in LA, the plot of the story is plausible, given the 'keep up appearance at any cost' mentality LA is known for :-). I very much liked the Lana character as being described as 'not your Hollywood type (reads like she actually has a normal female body, not a stick figure). And the 'wound tighter then a watch spring' physiologist, I thought the whole opposites attract worked...well not attracted right at the start :-). Over all, very well written, and like many of Jae's books that I appreciate VERY much, a lot of dialog! I am not a big fan of half a book being written from the point of the 'voice' of the characters mind monologue, Jae truly writes with a lot of dialog from and between the characters. This book will go into my 'will read again sometime' pile, look forward to her next novel.

    4.5 Stars!

I really adored this book and my guess is you will as well. This is a spot on fake engagement, opposites attract love story where the heroine each grow as individuals and become even better together. The writing is well paced, dialogue well done, characters well developed, the world and secondary characters rich, and the love slow burn sexy.

However, it took a lot for me to pick it up and buy it. First of all, I don't love a one named authors (nor one named singers except for Prince). I get why writings, particular women writers writing romance and especially LGBTAQ+ romance might need a pen name but why not a first name last name? For me, it this first name (or last name who knows) only choice feels like old school porn erotica. And it is not that I don't enjoy such things but these wonderful romances aren't what those books were. So, I tend to circle a book with a one named writer for a long time until I have read enough good reviews about it and if it has as much theme cat nip for me as this one did before I buy it.

And that brings me to my second reason for being slow to pick up. $9.99 is a high price for an e book. I don't love it when series I have been following forever come out at $12.99 either. And this is a series. It is a great book and I want the rest now... but they are all between $7.99 and $9.99. Ouch, my wallet.  Lots of lesbian romance is priced this high partly because it comes from small presses that really focus on queer women's writing and need the profit margin. I want to support these writers and press but it takes me a while to want do so with a new to me writer and I will be slower to buy the rest of the series than I would have if the books were priced around $5.  I would love to see older titles reduced so I could check out these new to me writers with less monetary risk.

Anyway! Back to the great romance that is Just for Show, we have so much body positive with two very different body types and there is also integrative mental health representation with PTSD and OCD in the mix a bit.

Mainly, we have a wonderful love story between two well drawn heroines, Claire and Lana.

    Yea!

This is my favorite book by Jae so far. I loved the characters. The chemistry was off the charts. I liked that one of the MCs was full-figured. It felt more realistic than the usual character profiles in some lesfic books. I wished that the book was longer. In some of Jae's other books, I feel like the story continues for too long after the MCs get together, like Bachelorette Number Twelve and Chemistry Lessons. The story continues in a very predictable way unnecessarily. In this book, I wish the story would have been a bit longer. I would have liked to have seen the MCs coexisting as lovers a bit more. Maybe I am just being greedy. This is definitely worth a read. The audiobook is great as well. Highly recommend!

Claire, a successful psychologist with perfectionist tendencies needs a fiancée to bolster her reputation as an expert relationship counselor so she can secure a book deal. That leads to her hiring Lana, a free-spirited, underemployed actress. Their personalities clash quickly when they move in together to preserve the farce, but the tension between them soon turns to something much hotter than differing opinions about loading a dishwasher. Attraction and even affection blossoms between them, but are the feelings real, or did they just get caught up in the game?

Just for Show is an entertaining contribution to the fake romance trope. Claire and Lana are engaging characters that only become more so as their personalities unfold throughout the story. The romance between them builds beautifully as the two women challenge each other and grow together despite frequent amusing mishaps in their pretend plans.

This novel is certain to delight any fan of sapphic romance with a fake romance twist.

A pleasure to read. To be honest I read the free or 99p kindle books. I was off on holiday and wanted to read something that was going to drive me nuts with poor grammer and spelling. Nice story, nice female characters that you could relate too. Funny and romantic an easy holiday read.

Although I have read a number of similar Lesfic stories recently, yet again Jae rises above the rest, to captivate me from start to finish. I love stories that have two very different characters, in this case, an Ice Queen and Actress thrown together in a fake relationship, where they then fall in love. We all know it's going to happen, but it is the unravelling of the story that Jae has us inthralled by.

Claire is a psychologist so wound up that something has to snap and it does. Her relationship does, five minutes before guests are about to arrive for her engagement party to Abbey. Abbey informs her that she can't marry her and " do" this relationship any more. She is devastated as she never saw it coming. How does it look if a specialist in relationships, (she has just written a book about it) that her seven year relationship has just gone belly up. Her book deal depends on her being engaged.

Enter Lana, a struggling actress, her agent hires to play the part of loving fiancé. Can these two fool family, friends and more importantly her potential publisher, that they are madly in love. Will they be able to survive living together as they are so different? Sit back and be thoroughly entertained as we watch these two stumble their way to some home truths and possibly true love. A funny, thought provoking story that had me abandoning my every day life as I sped through this intriguing story. Loved it.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5.0 out of 5 stars They say love cannot be bought
Reviewed in Canada on March 10, 2018
They say love cannot be bought, but can two person bounded by a fake relationship contract blur the lines between love and work arrangement enough to make it possible?

Claire Renshaw is about to get married and just as everything else in her life, she wants it perfectly organized. She’s got it all figured out, down to every little details. Claire is engaged to the beautiful Abby, a respected lawyer and has a self-help book on the way to be published. The couple therapist had everything she needed in her life, or so she thought…

What happens when her soon-to-be wife leaves her the day before the wedding, and the only thing she has left is her still unpublished book ‘’The Art of Lasting Relationship’’. Ironic, isn’t it? Even more because the only way left for her to get the book published is by entertaining a pretended relationship with a confident, curvy actress, who proudly works as a barista in between acting gigs.

Claire’s need to control everything is about to get tested once the messy Lana Henderson, far from the perfection she usually finds herself attracted to, moves in with her.

Their whole relationship is filled with deflections, well hidden under the pretense of their contract because they both don’t understand how they could feel a strong pull towards someone they least expected it!

Both characters couldn’t be more different if they tried. Can they put aside their difference long enough to make their fake relationship look genuine to the publisher or is it a disaster waiting to happen?

Sometimes love isn’t what you pictured at all, but it doesn’t mean it is not what you truly needed.

Jae is a mastermind in the art of writing fake relationships into wonderful slow-burned romance and ‘’Just for Show’’ is another great example of her talent as a writer. I recommend this one just as much as her whole collection. I am always amazed by the depth of every character that comes out of her imagination.

Once again I got lost in her universe and fell in love with each ones of the characters qualities and flaws until I couldn’t stop reading. Lana’s character was my favorite, mostly because of her down to earth personality. I feel like many readers will find themselves able to fill in her shoes.

My favorite scene of the whole book was the photo shoot. It was so well written and detailed that I can still see in my mind the pictures they took as if I was the one who took them, even if I only read about it.

If you are looking for a great quality, 300+ pages fake relationship romance, stop wasting your time and order this gem, you will not be disappointed.
