J. C. Long has had a long love affair with words, writing stories from a very early age. When not writing J. C.'s time is spent teaching English as a foreign language. J. - Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2018The third in the series is just as fascinating and intense as the other two. This time it is about Conroy , his relationship with Allen and their past. It also deals with the possibility of war between the Dragons and the Vipers.
The hallmark of this series is it's complex characters, playing out in the intriguing city that is Hong Kong.
I wish this series got more press as it is one of the best I've read in a long time.

Kindle Edition
J.C. Long lands you right in the middle what is stacking up to be a gang war, between the Twisted Vipers and the Dragons. And we find Allen Hong also in the middle as a previous member of the Dragons, now a policeman with the Hong Kong Eastern Precinct of the Police Department. With the murder of a fellow officer and dirty officials and gang members against gang members, Allen has his hands full and his life losing value every minute. Especially when he is assigned to watch over Conroy Wong, currently member of the Dragons and former lover. Conroy saw something that he wasn’t supposed to see and now must depend on Allen to keep him alive and do what he can to prevent an all-out destruction of the Dragons. I have not read the previous two books in this series, A Matter of Duty (Hong Kong Nights Book 1),A Matter of Courage (Hong Kong Nights Book 2) And it probably would have been helpful to read these in order, However is you read the detail on the characters and the Glossary included in the back of the book this will bring you up to speed and you will really enjoy the fast pace and excitement of Allen and Conroy life.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2018This is another gripping book in the Hong Kong nights series. The plot has action and suspense in it, I wondered how on earth it was going to be resolved, I couldn't see a way out. Conroy and Allen's past and the conflict they still feel is bound up in the dramatic part of the storyline as they struggle with what is loyalty and what is betrayal in the complicated world they live. Who are the heroes and who are the villains is unclear and sometimes people are a bit of both.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I think it could be read as a standalone as relevant plot points from previous books in the series are recapped but it would be a much better idea to read the whole series to truly enjoy all the nuances.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2018This was a long read for me but a fun read for me. I enjoyed being transported to Hong Kong and to the criminal underworld. I liked the main characters. I thought that they were really interesting. I liked the dialogue and the descriptive scenes. This story allowed me to forget reality for a short time and get stuck in a book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2018This is my favourite book in what was already a great series. I love JC Long's writing, I love this series and I love second chances romances; so this had all the ingredients for me to like it, and like it I did!
The MCs are full fleshed characters, and I loved how they reconnected with each others at the same time the rest of the story was happening around them. And speaking of the story, I seriously can't wait for the next book to come out! Although I can already tell it's going to make me suffer. I'll have to prepare.
Anyway, if you haven't started this series, go and pick up the first book. And if you've read the first two, don't wait to read this one! It's so worth it <3
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2018This has been a great series so far. I love the rivalry between the Twisted Vipers and the Dragons. Although, the Dragons are trying to keep the people safe without the illegal stuff. I loved reading Conroy and Allen's story. All those years spent apart. They were forced to spend time together and during that time, they learned a lot of things about each other. One being that they still loved each other. I really enjoyed this book. I have enjoyed JC Long and will continue to read this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2018A captivating read that takes you to Hong Kong and its criminal underworld. It's a second chance romance for Conroy and Allen who spent many years apart but are now spending time together and discovering that their love and attraction have not faded away. They have to struggle with the fine line between loyalty and betrayal in this story that's full of action and suspense.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
