Surrender: A Dark Sci-Fi Romance (Kall Alien Warriors Book 1) Kindle Edition
As Fiona struggles to survive in the aftermath of a brutal war, she worries her sick mother won't make it long without the medication she so desperately needs. When turncoats offer a way to keep her mother safe, she can't refuse--even though it means marrying Merokk, a fearsome Kall warrior, and posing as the First Daughter, Betsy Carson. The turncoats assure her the marriage will be in name only--but she soon learns Merokk not only intends to consummate their union, but he expects her to share his bed nightly. Furthermore, she will be subject to his rules and firm discipline.
He's been given a human female...
Kall warrior Merokk has mixed feelings about retiring from battle and marrying a human woman, but it's his duty to his people and he can't refuse. One look at Betsy and he's filled with the powerful urge to conquer the beauty who's been given to him as the spoils of war. He enjoys taming the headstrong human female and, as the months pass, discovers his feelings for his little wife run deep. But when he learns of her deceit after the real Betsy Carson surfaces, Merokk's new world comes crashing down. Can he learn to forgive Fiona, or will he spend the rest of their lives punishing her for a crime she never wanted to commit?

- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2021This story was everything I always hope for in a light (or not so light) BDSM story. Merokk is a truly honorable male, who wishes only the best for Fiona, regardless of their circumstances. Fiona discovers that she is a submissive at heart and finds peace and happiness in her role. Additional Merokk isn’t always right and has the stones to admit and acknowledge that. There is no impossible rules, or punishment for simply breathing, just a caring D/s relationship. Oh, and the ending... perfection! A true HEA.
The editing is great (I didn’t notice a single issue). The plot flows, the characters are likable and relatable. Overall a top notch book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2021Another good book by Ms Lyndon. I stayed up really late trying to finish this before I fell asleep. I manage to get it done and as usual enjoyed the writing by this author. The story flows along so evenly, you never really notice the time has covered a few months. But it all managed to work out in the end. Handsome domineering Aliens, unusual circumstances and hot sex......as I said great book.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2021I enjoyed this story. I could have done without all the BDSM activity. I don’t think it enhanced the story at all. The sex scenes were lively enough without it. I am not sure I will read more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2021I really enjoyed this fleshed out story. I wouldn't call it dark per-se. While there are elements that could be labeled dubcon because she agrees to the marriage under duress, she is definitely on board with their bedroom activities when they happen. I kept waiting for a dark shoe to drop and was happy it didn't. There is plenty of heat and the love story is wonderful. Five stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2021Okay so overall I thought the book was good the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it disappointed me a bit in the dark area it had elements but it really didn't play in the emotions of the main characters. The ending was very bland it just happened exactly the way you think it will and the climax was so soft that it felt like it was happening around the main characters not with them. I will probably give the author another try or two because I liked the invasion and the dark elements in the world the characters had potential.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2022When the Kali warriors defeated Earth's military, all the politicians were required to surrender their daughters to Kali warriors as their wives. Merokk and Betsy get married and in the US and life begins to return to normal. Will they be happy ? How will she handle the BDSM aspect of her bedroom ?
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2021How she is forced into a marriage because she looks like and to save her. Very different from books I have read about aliens. Did like it a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read
Nothing exciting, a bit repetitive, but this was a nice story. I’m just not sure if I really ‘felt’ it viscerally. Merokk was lovely, Fiona a nice person. Unfortunately not very spirited, though that’s in part the way she was written. Any defiance is incidental rather than intentional. Other characters (the subject of further books) were integral to the story without upsetting the balance.
There’s enough substance to make it a complete story without a need to get too ‘technical’ in relating events. We get a decently enough rounded out picture of the Kal culture and mentality, as well as the reason for arranged interplantary marriage and why Fiona takes part. I could’ve done with less of Fiona’s repetitive inner dialogue. Obviously the intent was to portray ‘angst’ but for me it felt a bit flat. At the beginning I anticipated the angst would grow viscerally but Fiona seemed largely stuck in her head.
Fiona is marrying a 7’ alien she’ll spend the rest of her life with, thinking she didn’t need to consumate the union, only to be disabused of that notion at the ceremony. That she felt trapped and rolled with the flow is one thing, but I’d expect any woman of her calibre would be freaking. She ‘thought’ it, but I didn’t feel it. I didn’t feel any real highs and lows, just an evenly paced tale. Fiona misses her mother and hopes she’s ok, but she doesn’t seem particulary depressed or stressed about not knowing how her mother is and never seeing her again. Again, it’s there, but it’s not.
Sex scenes were well written. Light BDSM, nothing over the top or particularly cringeworthy. Merokk is dominating and possessive but kind and considerate. (And insatiable. 😂) He doesn’t have a ‘dark’ desire that needs to be fed, he just is who he is as a Kal. The romance was nicely paced. Both grow as people as it progresses.
If you’re looking for a light, enjoyable read this story is worth your time. Overall well edited. Two errors pulled me out of the story. On page 69 Merokk is wearing his formal Kall warrior’s uniform as they start ‘messing about’, but on page 74 when they’re getting hit and heavy he’s naked, without any mention of him undressing. Ok, we can presume he undressed along the way, but if a sex scene is basically being described blow for blow that’s a bit of a quantum leap. Also, on page 90 it says Merokk took off his shirt, but a few pages later it says he tore off his shirt when things had progressed to copulation.
The story was well written but a bit Reader’s Digest. Not particularly a page turner but I did want to finish it and I’m glad I did. I rate this story 3.5*. It basically had it all yet not enough for me to rate 4*.
