Folkloric Ruse (The Folkloric Series Book 3) Kindle Edition
I've always known my partner has a dark side, but I've just discovered he's pure evil.
I’ve fully committed to being a Keeper of the Bounds between the fae and human realms, but I have to admit, I’m struggling to trust my partner, Lucas. We really didn’t have the best start, not to mention he’s so secretive, and it doesn’t help that I’m unnerved by the attraction between us.
On top of that, the bounds are splitting, the cracks of dark oblivion growing by the day. We have to put a stop to their expansion right now, because the consequences would mean the end of, well… everything.
Thinking his family may be involved, Lucas heads to Grimmere, his fae homeland, to find out what’s going on. Does he want my help? Nope. I have strict instructions to stay home and look after things here, which only adds to my general distrust.
But when a reliable source informs me that Lucas’s life is in perilous danger, I have no choice but to head to Grimmere. What I find there leaves me reeling. I now know who and what my partner is, and it’s blacker than sin.
With flawed characters and strong emotional arcs, the Folkloric series weaves a beguiling hidden fae world with epic stakes and all the feels. The chosen one and the perfect hero were so traumatised by the goblins, they upped and left for another book.

About the author

Karenza Grant writes fun and feisty urban fantasy with plenty of humour and a little slow-burn romance.
Her early years in Cornwall were largely the source of her fascination with all things mysterious. She lived below a hill reputed to be the Cornish residence of the Unseelie Court, and the local myths got their claws in. Now she’s inspired by a broad range of creators from Jim Henson, Arthur Rackham, and Olivier de Marliave, to a whole host of amazing authors on the urban fantasy scene. Currently, she’s enjoying weaving her love of France into page-turning stories.
She has three black cats known as The Three Guardians, and a crazy lab x spaniel who is just about the only thing that can extract Karenza from her writing desk—if the pooch isn’t walked, the legions of hell will be released.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2025I am doing a re-read of the series before the upcoming release of the next book. I loved the deeper exploration of Lucas's family and the further development of trust between the two main characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2025Imaginative and whity. A great read.I can't wait to read the further adventures of Camille and the rest of the gang.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025Great escape! But also specifically apropos these days in our extremely polarized political climate - an astute and satisfying metaphor or allegory of the times. And each day it seems less and less hyperbolic…almost literal!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2024I'm really loving this series. The author is doing a great job building the relationships between characters and the world is detailed and thought out. I'm loving how the relationship between Lucas and Camille is evolving. I didn't double check but it feels like there is a much longer wait between this book and the next then there were between 1-3. The author deserves as much time as she needs to write a good story, she's certainly going faster than some others, but I'm so ready for the next book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2024There was more folklore in the first two books but book 3 built seamlessly onto that. It was nice getting to see more into Lucas' life and I can see the foreshadowing even if Camille can't!
The new information introduced was really good and the world building for Grimmere was great. I loved getting to know some of the goblins better.
Newly veritied folks seeing fae was so funny!
I simply didn't know how much I needed the Folkloric series in my life!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2024**ARC READER REVIEW, ALL STATEMENTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN**
“Folkloric Ruse” is yet another phenomenal continuation to the world of Folkloric, and is an attention-grabbing third volume sweeping the reader through this new world and continuing strongly, delving further into the epic series. The prose is on point, the characters, endearing, and the plot... thickening! Savoureux! “Folkloric Ruse” is an enjoyable and entertaining read, with great world-building, and great characters, and is an honest-to-goodness MUST READ!
Camille is a folklorist, first, last, always. But since being introduced into the realm beyond the Bounds, she’s even more enamored with the Fae and everything they bring to the world. Camille has found some recognition for her knowledge and research in folklore, but now she has bigger croissants to bake! Whiles she still lives on Grampi’s farm, helping out with the Supergoats, she still works in her best friend Alice’s mom’s pâtisserie, and she’s still trying to figure out how she feels about, and what to do with the town’s doctor, Lucas, her job as a Keeper of the Bounds with Lucas has come to the forefront of her attention.
The Bounds are in worse shape than ever, and Lucas has gone to visit his family in Grimmere. No big deal right? Just the power center for his family of Dracs. No sweat! But when Mushum the goblin tells Camille that Lucas is in mortal danger, it’s time for her to get to know her (potential) Drac-in-laws, whether it kills her or not!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2024Another wonderful book in the Folkloric series! In this book, Camille is now an official Keeper. She has been training with Lucas and Grampi in the human realm, but still does not have a lot of actual experience in Fae. After a huge fight between Lucas and his brother, Elivorn, Lucas tells Camille he needs to go to family home in Fae. He tells her she has to stay, but when she gets a warning that he is in grave danger she decides she needs to make the journey to save him. But she did not realize just how dangerous the journey or his family would be.
While in Grimmere, Camille is exposed to the very real danger from the drac family. She learns secrets Lucas has kept form her and is torn as to whether she should trust Lucas or not. The family is set on tearing the Bounds apart and someone close to Camille is pulled into the plot. There is a lot that happens in this book and I can't say much more without giving too much away!
I love learning all the new (to me) French folklore and history. It is woven together beautifully! And the tension between Camille and Lucas is definitely getting thicker (esp after Camille gives him the wrong potion!!!!) Still trying to deny her attraction to Lucas, she must decide whether she wants to trust him or not.
If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend going back and getting book 1! Another book that I can't wait to see where this goes! (Both the plot and the possible romance!)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2024This installment takes us to Lucas’ home in Fae, where Camille learns more about Lucas, his family and the evil trying to tear apart the world. Loved getting to know Lucas better, and seeing his partnership with Camille grow and strengthen. We get to meet new characters, learn more about Fae, and see the characters we know grow. Well written story, with vivid description, immersed in French, a great addition to the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb third volume by Author Karenza Grant
This is a third book in Karenza Grant’s well written and thoroughly cohesive escalating tale in the adventures of Camille, an amateur Folklorist; who uses her knowledge of local lore and legend through meticulous research, to land a dream summer job as assistant to a University Professor and her entourage, whom Camille must rescue, with the help of her fellow keeper Lucas.
It is taut, and from what I understand of classic mythology, a credible blending of well conceived fiction of the author’s own interweaving of crisply crafted narrative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 3
Brilliant, best book yet read all 3 books in record time as I found it hard to put them down. I had a good chuckle in places obviously meant to be funny, a belly laugh at part of the last couple of chapters of book 3. Looking forward to book 4 in March.
Thank you Karenza for your work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I am currently working through the whole series of Folkloric, wonderful! Does not disappoint. Tense, intriguing, atmospheric and homourful too. The story and tension beneath the two main characters is sublime. Supported by the other flotsam of characters as they discover the Fairy world. My favourite series of books.
