Kathryn Nolan's Free Fall has soared into my top spot for 2024!! Luke and Elijah are the best couple so far this year, and Kathryn's writing is fraught with yearning, passion and so much steam it will take your breath away!!

Luke is a carefree surf instructor who is unexpectedly left with a questionable company by his father who hasn't spoken to him in several years. Elijah is the quiet, incredibly serious bodyguard tasked with ensuring that he keeps Luke safe from some mysterious, threatening letters.

From the first page I loved Luke's golden retriever behavior, I felt so badly for him seeing how his father and all the people surrounding him daily in this awful company he left him. Watching him trying to take care of the sister his father abandoned, and restart his relationship with the brother his father favored over him was both incredibly sweet and horribly sad at the same time.

Luke's need for adventure, and adrenaline drove Elijah insane and made him worry incessantly, especially when Luke tries to fire him the first day. Until the first incident whereupon Luke is shocked into trying to force Elijah into helping him figure out who is trying to hurt him.

Elijah, oh man! He just made me want to give him the biggest hug, and burn his tie at the same time. I just wanted him to experience all the things that Luke wanted him to see. He's so strict, but at the same time from the very beginning his thoughts are just running rampant with the need to pull Luke down an empty street and kiss him in the dark, the tension is SO HIGH, it's just sizzling!!

Y'all, the suspense with who is after them, are they going to kiss - and that first kiss is crazy hot!! The tension when Elijah is so clear that one night is all they can have, and Luke's automatic heartbreak, that this is the way everyone always feels about him. They only want a little of him, because he's just too much. I just wanted to cry so hard in that part!!

Kathryn Nolan has written the perfect summer romantic suspense, it's my favorite of hers by far, and I want to see more like this!! Free Fall is steamy, angsty, and will keep you on the edge of your seat! If I could give it ten stars I absolutely would!!

Fast-paced, tender, and spicy, I binged this in a single day and had a great time doing it. The grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract dynamic was a definite win, and the bodyguard situation adds plenty of suspense. I loved watching these two fall for each other before they even realized what was happening, and they complemented each other so well. The vibes are light and sexy, with a touch of heaviness when recounting their pasts and a ton of action along the way. I enjoyed it the whole time, and the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars from me is because I simply wasn’t invested in the suspense. I just wanted more of the guys, lol, which I suppose is a compliment in its own way. In the end, I was just happy to have a new love story from Nolan (feels like it’s been forever!), and I was up for wherever it went.

The story follows Luke, a man who unexpectedly inherited his estranged father’s company and fortune when he passed away. Considering the fact that he’s always been the black sheep of the family, it’s a surprise to everyone involved - an energetic, thrill-seeking bisexual with a perpetual smile doesn’t exactly fit into the corporate culture. So when his father’s longtime bodyguard lets Luke know that it’s time to re-sign a contract with his company, Luke is quick to make it clear that he won’t be doing things the same way as his father. He has no need for a bodyguard - especially one as grumpy and infuriatingly sexy as Elijah - and he has no interest in taking over the company. But when a series of incidents reveal a real threat to Luke, he finds himself relying on Elijah. And as the two opposites get to know each other better, it’s impossible to deny the connection between them.

I don’t read a whole lot of M/M romance, but I’m a big fan of Nolan’s writing, so I couldn’t wait to dig in. And I’m so glad I did. From the start, this was bingeable in every way. I could feel the chemistry between the characters, and I loved the friction between them. Elijah is 37 to Luke’s 27, and he’s been on the job long enough that he’s serious and stoic. Luke, on the other hand, is wild and carefree on the surface. I loved watching them slowly discover all that they had in common, and it all happened in such a sweet, swoony way. These two made each other blush with their vulnerability - adorable. And then they made me blush with all that spice, lol. Even though I really didn’t care about the mystery/suspense element, it did make this absolutely fly by. Before I knew it, the story was over, and it was such a great read.

If you love this author's Codex series and Rival Radio, image that some magic was weaved and then this book - poof- happened. All the best parts of the suspense, tense and witty of this author's stories leap off the pages.

With that said, I basically shirked all my duties in one day and devoured it. I was supposed to buddy read and left my buddy in the dust. The story pacing is amazing from the first 10 pages. You are engrossed and turning pages faster to find out the whodunits and what their happily ever after looks like.

Luke is adorable and you want to help him through all the mixed family emotions. Then Elijah. Who cannot resist a broody overly protective hero? Me that's who. I loved how Luke's sunshine was the perfect contrast to Elijah's stoic manner.

This is mystery/suspense - so don't want to give too much away. But the resolution, the villains, all the conflict was perfection from start to finish. This is well worth giving up my day to get lost amongst the pages.

I am one that is hopeful that the author will continue to bring more stories like this to readers. I highly recommend if you are looking for something swoony, makes you laugh between the gasps, and devour in a day, look no further.
