Kiss of the Damned (Fallen Cities: Elisium Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,010 ratings

I have no interest in being a demon’s plaything.

I shouldn’t even be in the Fallen City of Elisium, but all it took was one Nephilim jerk proclaiming me to be
tainted and that’s exactly where I wind up.

The demons in this dark metropolis are vile, wicked beings, though none more so than Kincaid: the cruelest and most powerful of them all. To ensure my safe return home, I must strike a bargain with him.

Forty days in exchange for my freedom.

It’s not like I have much choice, so I agree. If Kincaid’s interest in me can help solve the riddle of my origin and aid in my escape from Elisium, I figure it’ll all be worth it.

Only, the more time I spend with Kincaid, the more the tenuous line between love and hate melts away. Soon, I’ll be forced to confront something far more disquieting than the truth of my heritage: a confusing connection with a demon that I cannot deny.

From bestselling author, Elena Lawson comes the first book in an inventive new series that will thrust the reader into a world of dark temptation, deception, and desire.

I loved Paige as a character. Her strength of spirit shines through and I enjoyed her logical approach to her problems. The world sucked me in and I’m super invested to see where this goes. But damn that ending though!

This is a compelling and well-written book. If you’re a fan of paranormal, this is definitely worth your time. The main character’s identity is not quite yet developed over the book, but we are given some really interesting cues. There is a strong cliffhanger, and the book does not by any means feel complete, but the story is compelling and interesting. If you’re into stories about demons and angels, and you don’t mind a sharp cliffhanger, check this out!

I got this book strictly because the cover caught my attention, and boy am I glad it did.

    I absolutely love it.

It was both everything I expected and nothing like I thought it would be. My heart went out to Paige, she was a girl in a super unfortunate situation from the jump. And boy oh boy does our male lead peek my curiosity and drive me crazy in one breath.

I adore Artemis, and let me just say this. I'm now scowering the planet for a demon kitty.

There's tons of mystery and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna die if November doesn't hurry the heck up and roll around cause I neeeeed to read the second book like yesterday.

Great book. It took me personally a few chapters to fully get into but then I got hooked :)
It's modern day but heaven and hell have previously been exposed as real. Angels, demons, and beings in between exist in the world. And it's slowburn-ish? Enough to tease the reader but you have to find out more in book 2.
I really enjoyed the group of main characters. They have all lived through unfortunate circumstances but the story was still able to keep light-hearted moments. Looking forward to read more!

The bare bones of the book itself is really intriguing. I like the mystery surrounding the main character, and I wish we would have gotten more answers in the first book to be built upon in the next two (which are apparently missing- that’s annoying). The main character and side characters could use some fleshing out. The main love interest is a little boring because we literally get zero of his personality. Because of this the chemistry between the two is basically zero. Especially because of the perceived relationship power imbalance. This book opened up a ton of questions, with no answers so the book felt very incomplete and did not tell a whole story. I’m not sure if I will keep reading or not.

I enjoyed this book. I find both Paige and Kincaid intriguing characters. I love the demon cat. My only complaint is that Kincaid's attraction to Paige seems to come out of nowhere. There didn't seem to be a build-up on his end.

What an interesting story!! I’m really looking forward to the next one! Characters are believable, Paige’s naivety is understandable and Kincade is consistent which is nice. The overall concept is an interesting what-if the world kept going after The End Times and what it would be like to live in a major city. Very cool, highly recommend!

It's wild how every time I think Elena has stopped herself, she does it again and again! Kiss of the Damned is no exception. While it took me a few chapters to get in to the MC, I loved every minute! The cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want a Kincaid in my life!!!
Reviewed in France on July 8, 2020
So as a staunch defenser of HEA, I picked the book because I love Elena's stories. I wasn't expecting the setting to be dark but anyway I know the author so I know she would pull it off so I kept reading and was not disappointed. Paige's story starts gruesome and I loathed Kincaid when he compelled her to relieve her past but then, I fell for him right then and there because he didn't like what he saw and even if we don't get his pov in this book, we know that he commits to making right by her. Also Paige thinks her desire for him is the fruit of magic but we know better... Between Hell and Elisium, all you'll want to do is keep on reading to see how they end up together. I love the fact that Kincaid is a Demon lord with very real and human-like feelings and I love love how he helps Paige come to terms with who she really is even though the question of what she is remains unanswered in this book. The resolution of this installment give us clues that I cannot wait to confirm (or not) in book 2!
