Kaleb
I was always the bad boy.
The kid from the broken home and the wrong side of the tracks.
But in her eyes, I hung the moon.
The girl from my summers who I thought I’d never see again.
Finding her now right before I’m due to deploy is like a gift, one I’m not going to waste.
She was always meant to be mine and I’m going to make it official.
My silly girl is now my spirited wife, giving me someone to come home to.
Little do I know I
won’t be coming home – at least not as the same man.

Luna
I never thought of myself as a good girl… but
he does.
The boy I used to see every summer has grown into a brave soldier that I now get to call my husband.
Getting married so quickly was supposed to be a way to protect us both and keep us together for good.
But we both take on demons while he’s away, and when he comes home, it’s his that try to tear us apart.
Someone has to fight for us while he’s weary and wounded.
And now it’s my turn to go into battle.

I have just found a new amazing romance author and I’m keeping her!!!!

Oh holy hell, after reading LAVENDER MOON from Author Natalie Parker, I am as instantly smitten as the young Kaleb was when he met Luna at their first summer camp aged just 10. I loved everything about it. The angst level was high, the heat level was high and everything about the plot direction was on-point.

I can’t even say how lucky I feel to have found this author through the social media of another favourite author.

The instant and sustained connection between Kaleb and Luna was the stuff of romantic legends and even as they impulsively married young, their love was already profoundly solid. It’s written in my most favourite dual first person POV and Ms Parker didn’t cut corners in giving them the best story that they deserved.

Luna was such a trooper. She was strong and tenacious because she had to be for the boy and the man she’d always loved. She was protective, unselfish and always giving of herself until that moment arrived where she could give no more. My heart broke for them both.

Kaleb knew from that first camp that Luna made him a better person but his upbringing meant he was more reticent about revealing parts of himself that she’d so generously given. Even with his Pops giving him such a solid foundation of honour and family love, he still had so much to get past and some hard introspection to get through. The military was never meant to have been a career, but a means to better himself and gain the education that he couldn’t otherwise afford. He just had the tour of duty to fulfil first. Unfortunately for him and many others, the cost of war was too great.

The stats on US veterans are abysmal and heart-breaking. The resulting internal and external scars go unrecognised and untreated all too often, and prescription based opioid deaths are alarming across all demographics.

While Ms Parker doesn’t emphasise these scenes, I believe that she’s real about them. And they play a strong part in Kaleb and Luna’s struggle to sustain their marriage. The experience of trauma changes a person and I absolutely admired Luna’s love and loyalty that Kaleb took for granted. They both had personal demons and a parental history to overcome, and their author didn’t glorified anything about their story. It’s not harrowing by any means, but angsty was the word of the day and she did it perfectly.

But, when he hit rock bottom and his worst fears were realised, a very desperate Kaleb had to choose his direction, and I loved that he found support from an unexpected quarter. I loved his quest for retribution. Hell, I’ve already said that loved everything about this book!!!!!
Wow, LAVENDER MOON is going to be a re-read for me I can tell, especially as I’ve already read it twice so I have absolutely no qualms in highly recommending this amazing soul-filling military romance as something you need to be reading!!! All the stars!!! 🪖💔🖤

There's nothing I love more in romance than authentic angst, and this baby is chock-full of it! This talented wordsmith is new to me, and I’m so grateful to the book friend who introduced me to Parker's work. I’m a fan for life and can’t wait to work my way through her back catalog as well as see what epic romance she gives us next.

Kaleb and Luna's story starts out so amazingly sweet. They meet as adolescents at summer camp and something clicks into place for them both. They may live in different cities and seem opposite in personality, but it just works for them. Over the years they maintain contact and spend a couple weeks together each summer at camp, and their friendship grows into more.

Shortly before Kaleb enlists in the military, he and Luna get married. No, they won’t be together right away, but she'll be his person and someone to come home to. Except the man who returns from the military is very different than the boy Luna married, yet she's determined to fight Kaleb's demons right alongside him.

Oh my heart y'all, if only every romance could be as good as this one!! I loved Luna and Kaleb so much and felt every bit of the pain, desperation and heartbreak on their road to forever. The challenges seemed insurmountable, but determination, tenacity, and, most of all, love saw them through. I cheered them on every step of the way and adored watching them turn adversity and ruin into growth and healing, becoming stronger together than they ever would have been otherwise.

A triumphant story of sweet, innocent love tested and shaped by life's circumstances that ultimately overcomes, this is everything you’re looking for in an extraordinary romance read. Heartfelt, humorous, tender and steamy, you definitely won’t want to miss this phenomenal, unforgettable love story!

This is my first introduction to this author and it was a good one. The prologue held my interest, but as it continued it moved a bit slow for me. The banter was okay. I did like the angst, and tropes. I love military, and small town romances. I also liked how the author tackled some hard topics: PTSD, Addiction and DV. All in all, Kaleb and Luna's story is a rollercoaster of emotions and I'm glad I stuck it out till the end. This is totally my opinion and would suggest checking it out for yourself, as you may feel differently, overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Emotional Read!

This author forces me to feel whenever I read one of her books, and this one did not disappoint. This book isn’t just a friends to lovers read. It’s a soul breaking, heart mending, panty melting read! I loved Luna and Kaleb. I loved how they fell in love as kids and that love persevered even when they screwed up royally with one another. I loved how Kaleb was broken by his past but emerged a stronger, better version of himself in the end. I loved even more what a strong resilient woman Luna was, and while she demonstrated such compassion, she didn’t lose herself in her heartbreak! This character were real and relatable, and I wish I could be a part of their world because if they were real, I would want them as friends. If you are looking for a book that is guaranteed to make you feel, grab this one now!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully emotional ❤️

When I saw an ad for Lavender Moon by Natalie Parker, I knew I wanted to read it.

I did see a comment that advised readers to read this book all at once, but I couldn't wait, so I read it over a few days. However, I will note that it was hard to put down.

As soon as I read the name Luna in both the prologue and Chapter 1, I was filled with excitement to read how this story would get from these 10-year-old summer camp kids to their adult versions. (Maybe I should have read the description before reading....)

❤️ the connection these characters formed and their willingness to do anything for each other

❤️ their main communication for the majority of their story: snail mail letters and emails

❤️ the art and drawings and how beautifully they were described

❤️ Kaleb drawing on Luna's hand

❤️ the longstanding game of Truth or Dare

Overall, this was an emotional, beautiful and heartwarming story. I felt for both characters and feel that Parker did a wonderful job of developing both the story and the characters.

I haven't read the Turn It Up Series by Parker, but it is noted that readers can read the stories of Luna's mom and dad and uncle through this series, and even get more glimpses of Luna, and now I am intrigued to read more.
