Lean On Me: An unforgettable, emotional read from NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER Beth Moran for 2024 Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 953 ratings

From No. 1 bestselling author Beth Moran comes a story about family, friendship and community.

As Faith tries on her future mother-in-law’s wedding dress in preparation for her own wedding, her tears are not of joy. The hideous frock is nicknamed ‘The Ghost Web’ by Faith’s best friend Marilyn, who can’t understand why Faith would even consider wearing it. But there’s a lot Marilyn doesn’t know about Faith – not the least of which is that Faith is just the latest of the names she has called herself.

Faith and her brother Sam survived a traumatic childhood which included having to change their names to hide from the past, but surviving has left scars. Faith’s generous fiancé Perry doesn’t just promise to be a partner, he offers freedom and security, and enough kindness to keep Faith squashing down any doubts on what ‘being in love’ really means.

It’s not until she meets an extraordinary group of women at the Grace Chapel choir, that things start to become crystal clear. As choir-leader extraordinaire, the indomitable Hester, holds a mirror up to her ragtag group of singers, all with their own burdens and insecurities, and teaches them to see how magnificent they are, so Faith can dare to dream of a future where she and Sam can stop running and she might even be ready to accept the love that she deserves.

Number 1 bestselling author Beth Moran is back with her trademark ingredients of wisdom and warmth, heartbreak and hearts soaring. Perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Philippa Ashley and Jenny Colgan.

Please note this book was originally published as The Name I Call Myself.

‘Beth Moran. Beth has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact, reading one of Beth's books feels more like a friend rather than reading a book. Faith is really Rachael, a survivor of traumatic abuse, hiding her real self to avoid discovery & condemnation. A handsome, rich, near perfect fiancé means saving her traumatized, addicted brother & last relative from his demons. Through new friendships made at choir, & the rugged, kind church pastor, Faith starts to let her protective barriers down, only to have the man who murdered her mother, beat her & her brother, vengefully searching for them after his prison release. Faith found a family in her choir, true friendships, understanding, & finally, a new resolve to be true to herself.

Laughing out loud, in spite of best efforts to not wake my sleeping husband, way past my bedtime!
Crying as I soaked in other pages. Beth Moran, you have a gift. Thank you for using to draw us into your imaginary worlds.

Wow, what a story! The protagonist had superhuman powers to keep moving forward, in spite of the unrelenting stress, fear, work, and a future mother-in-law from Hades. Faith's (and Sam's) story is slowly revealed throughout the novel. Love, trust, and acceptance come from unlikely sources, along with self esteem, as Faith joins a choir and sisterhood of multigenerational women. The lesson learned is that sometimes, when we are at our weakest, we are at our strongest.

I honestly get bored with just a simple romance novel, so I liked the additional mystery that underlay this book. It had a strong, survivor main character too, another favorite type of mine. An inspiring, fun read!

I loved this book. The characters were intriguing and the life stories poignant. My emotions were fully invested in the story.I felt frustrated at some of the choices made, teary at the heartaches and laughed out loud many times .

I tried to get into the plot, but it just wasn't for me. I just felt my anxiety levels rising as I tried to follow the plot. Faith, the engaged woman, is struggling with poverty, a drug junky brother, and is just trying to get through her days, the weeks, and the months ahead.

Heartbreaking, Healing, inspiring, and had me in tears and smiles through the whole book. Gave me all the feels! Loved it!

This is one of those stories that will stay with you long after you read it. Faith has had a horrible life, there's no way to put a nice spin on it. Mother-less at age 6, orphaned again when her grandmother died, leaving Faith to care for her brother Sam, she was forced to survive. Even after domestic violence she still had to survive, and she vowed that she would never be reliant on anyone ever again.

Faith and her fiancee Perry are definitely a case of opposites attract. He is wealthy, his family is a bunch of snoopy snobs, and his mother takes every opportunity to belittle Faith. Faith stuffs down her resentment and irritation because only she knows why she must go through with the wedding, despite Perry not knowing her history.

When Faith stumbles onto the Grace choir during a visit to her mother's former church, she doesn't realize that she has found the path to family, a place where she can just be herself. A minister who doesn't judge her and who listens to the history she hasn't shared with Perry.

Perry and his family aren't likeable characters. The choir members are wonderful, a disparate group of women who come together from different backgrounds yet make beautiful music together, both when singing and not. I absolutely loved this book. It will make you mad, sad and happy, sometimes all on the same page.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

What a book, couldn't put it down read it in a morning. A very special story that takes you through so many emotions. Would have liked a happier ending for Faith's brother after everything they'd gone through, but things like that happen in real life.

Despite suffering from a very sore throat, and a bit of a fever, taking a sick day meant I could feast on Beth’s latest delightful story.
She has to be one of my favourite authors ever. I love the themes of friendship, community and faith that she weaves throughout her books, alongside sweet and tender romance. Nor does she shy away from tackling the harder aspects of life.
Lean on Me includes all the best ingredients of a Beth Moran book. I’m never confident expressing what the highlights of a book are, in a way that will encourage you to read it, so I guess you’ll just have to find out for yourself. I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed.
