Gabriel (Legacy Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 465 ratings

Trapped in darkness, can an escort find a man to help him into the light?

Gabriel Reyes never gave in. He fought and was hurt, was abused but escaped with his life. He made his way in the world using the one thing he was good at: sex. He earned a place with a man who controls everything but Gabriel is safe; he’s made it.

Cameron Stafford hires Gabriel for a night, needing nothing more than a pretend boyfriend to get his dysfunctional family off his back. With the money he has in the bank and his own hotel, why won't they just leave him alone? It doesn’t matter that a degenerative disease has stolen his vision, or that his last boyfriend was a bastard who tried to steal from him; for now he has purpose.

When Gabriel and Cam fall for each other, can they find real happiness and, maybe, a forever that will save them both?

A new story set in the world of Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes and the Double D Ranch, Texas.

She lives and works out of her home in the beautiful English countryside, spends her spare time reading, watching films, and enjoying time with her family.

The last time she had a week’s break from writing she didn't like it one little bit and has yet to meet a bottle of wine she couldn’t defeat.

This book is different from most of RJ Scott’s books. It deals with a subject matter that is a trigger for some people. She wrote about dealing with abuse, sexual and otherwise. About feelings of self-worth or the lack there of. The need to find value in yourself and did so with sensitivity. She also wrote about accepting that sometimes we all need help. That sometimes to be a stronger person you need to accept the help offered.
In some ways, this was a hard book to read. The abuse of Gabriel, first by Hank at the Bar 5 Ranch and then his pimp Stefan is difficult to handle. You want to cry for what he’s gone through. And you pull for him to get out of his own mind and grab the help that Kyle and Legacy Ranch can give him. And to accept that Cam wants to help him.

Cam has his own struggles as well. Going blind just adds to the flaws that are unacceptable to his family. Having been taken advantage of before makes it hard for him to trust again. So, when he needs a plus one, an escort seems reasonable to him. But the more time he spends with Gabriel, the more he sees the real person behind the impersonal sex.

This book was an emotional, sometimes tear filled but beautiful journey to the relationship that blooms between Gabriel and Cam.
Although this is book two in the series and you do get glimpse of the Legacy, Campbell-Hayes clan, it can stand alone. Reading book one does give you better insight to the backstory of Gabriel and Kyle.

ARC received for an honest review.

This is book 2 of the Legacy series, a spin-off of the Texas series. You don't have to read the Texas series but they are great books and give background to the guys in the Legacy series.
Gabriel was one of the boys abused by Hank Castille on the Bar Five Ranch.
He left and ended up working the streets, where Stefan found him. Now Stefan has him working as a high class male prostitute. As with all manipulators, Stefan has convinced Gabriel he deserved and must have wanted the abuse he received from Hank. He emotionally/mentally, physically and sexually abused by Stefan and his johns. He's tried suicide before and is thinking about it again.
Cameron is a wealthy businessman who is going blind. His father and soon to be BIL are trying to take control of his company away from him on the grounds that a blind man can't run a company without being taken advantage of (yes the irony). He needs a date for his sister's wedding. So Six, his bodyguard/best friend, says he'll get a professional. In steps Gabriel. At first Gabriel and Cameron just spend time watching movies and getting to know each other. It soon turns romantic. Gabriel points out something to Cameron about a loved one and Cameron points out to Gabriel he deserves better.
There's a lot of mental/emotional, physical and sexual abuse on page and alluded to. It's hard to read but explains a lot about each man's character and to me it read pretty accurate to real life. There's a lot of time spent apart so the chemistry isn't as strong as I would have liked but it's felt none the less. I definitely want to see Six get a HEA. He's a strong character that's still healing from his own heartbreak.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of RJ's, who likes scarred/scared men on their way to healing.

I really enjoyed this book. The only thing that I didn't like was that it ended too soon. I feel like there was so much left to be said. I have not read the Texas series but see that that one couple has 7 or 8 books dedicated just to them. I love series like that because I fall in love with my characters and find myself having a vested interest in their futures and ongoing series with the same characters makes me happy. I feel like Gabe and Cam would be perfect with a second book. This first book dealt with most of Gabriel's issues but did nothing but tease me for Cam's family drama. I want to know more!!! Give me more! Please! lol.

I am really glad that I ran across this book and took a chance on it because it really was very good. The author is really good at displaying emotions and she did the darker parts of the story perfectly for the type of book she was writing. I've read books that are more explicit with the abuse as well as ones that mostly skim over it and make it seem more like a footnote than anything. This is not dark erotica so the abuse did not need to be explicit, but to accurately get the emotions across and to display the effect it had on Gabe, some detail needed to be given and not just glossed over. Scott did a superb job in displaying the perfect amount of dark with the romance as well as showing that a person can not be expected to get out of a situation like that completely unscathed and that it is okay to need and ask for help.

This is a slow burn that could seriously use a sequel.

There is a warning in the blurb - Be aware: emotional and physical abuse are depicted on the page in this book. This is a valid and important warning.

This is the second book in this spin off series about the young men who survived the nightmare of abuse at the hands of Hank and his bunch, but they have not come through unscathed.... Gabriel's plight tore out my heart and stomped it to bits. (yes, there was ugly crying)

Cam is the other MC and although he's not as damaged as Gabriel, he also has things to work through, both his past relationship and his whacked out family (OY!).

I can attest to the reality in Gabriel's thinking and self-doubt. Sometimes it's the scars on the inside that are the toughest to overcome.

I understand that many readers may not be happy or thrilled by this story, but it's an important story about survival, allowing someone to step in and help when it seems easier to just give up and let go. The story of Gabriel and Cam will stay with me for a long, long time.

As I started the review, if abuse is a trigger for you, this might not be the book for you. But, if you can, take a deep breath, grab this book and let yourself be taken away into an amazing story.

In my more whimsical moments, I imagine myself as being a close friend of the Riley-Hayes family. Before you think that's too weird, let me explain that in her Heart of Texas and Legacy series, RJ Scott has created an extended set of characters whose lives are challenged by the same obstacles we face in our ordinary lives, i.e. stereotypes, discrimination, broken relationships, the desire to be accepted and loved.

In her most recent offering in the Legacy series, Daniel is a damaged soul having been brutally victimized for years both physically and emotionally. The intensity of the abuse he suffered makes for some difficult reading, and you need to be aware of how you may react. If you can handle this topic, then read this book. I guarantee that you will feel like crying for Daniel, you will feel like you're nearly able to murder his abuser, and you will cheer for ..... I better not give anything away. Suffice it to say, RJ Scott has another praiseworthy story to add to her ever growing list of books which just keep getting better and better.

I look forward to reading the next installment in the Legacy series which I understand will be available in the Spring of 2018. Hopefully, that won't be the last one.

Thanks, Ms. Scott, for bringing to our attention the serious issue of abuse and victimization. The cycle of abuse needs to stop. If I'm ever faced with the challenges of helping a victim, I hope I will be as empathetic and wise as Kyle, Jason, Clair, Cam, Riley, Jack, and even Six! I told you they're like my family...

I read this as an ARC. So, How to write a review without giving spoilers and I really don't want to repeat the plot lines.
So. This is a rollercoaster ride of edge of the seat anxiety, angst, anger, violence, emotional turmoil and love. So much love. I wanted to kill Stefan myself, just sayin! Gabe and Cam have their own extremely different issues. Six is a wonderful secondary character and its always special to get a brief visit with the Campbell-Hayes family.
I found myself seriously choked up at times and smiling foolishly at others, there is so much happening here and if you can get the time and the quiet its a one sitting read.

I received this ARC promising and giving an honest review/opinion.

This was a great story very emotional and there are parts of abuse physical and emotional. I find this hard to fathom how people can do this to another person. It just seems that there is something wrong with the brain. But this a happy ending. Loved the characters in it.

This one broke my heart more than once....Gabriel is another victim of the Bar Five and oh boy what he went through....Cam was a force of nature for Gabriel.....He had a lot to deal with as his family is not the best....His father and brother-in-law were horrible people, but he stood his ground along with his friend Six...This really is a great read but you will need tissues and i'm pretty sure the next one is gonna be harder to read.....But...Rj is nothing but amazing at putting you back together after breaking you apart x
