The hazy fog of unease that weaves thoughout these pages is like a silent evil that bides it's time and waits to strike until the most vulnerable only grows thicker as the journey unfolds. My mind loves to walk around in their shoes and work through all of the delicious details and try to understand the true motivation and ultimate demise. Getting lost in the details is where the action, heart, and determination lives. This is where the story breaths in the creativity and heart and breaths out all of the wonder and magic.     Th characters have to be ones that I intrinsically love and cherish. Meredith and Michael were those precious and mysterious ones for me who left me able to get completely lost in their incredibly tumultuous and beyond complex relationship. I could have never imagined what was happening which made this story that much more stunning and addictive then I ever anticipated. My heart is still reeling from the incredible surprises and twists rhat I never saw coming. This is how you create a flawless and extraordinary masterpiece!

    This review is for all 3 books, since I can’t really recall where one ends, and the others begin.

    First off, Michael was hot AF, even though he had some serious issues. It seemed like it would be easy to not like him, but for me it was quite the opposite. Guess it’s that bad boy attraction. Meredith has her own issues, too.

    The way Michael and Meredith meet and subsequently “date” seems like this story is going to be a romantic comedy; something similar to some of Whitney’s other books. That isn’t the case, but that’s all I’ll say.

    This story has a lot of twists and unexpected turns. Although the content was kind of heavy, the story read fairly light and quick. Some of the events are a bit far fetched, but that’s what makes it a good story. Romance reading is pure fantasy for me, and I suspend reality when I dive into a story. As you get to know Michael, you realize you don’t really know him. He’s not easily forgettable, that’s for certain.

    This series is definitely different from what Whitney usually writes about. It was a passion project she wrote for herself, and I really enjoyed it. I love her other books, but I hope she continues to get out of her box with different material like this.

    With a few time jumps, we meet Meredith and learn of her unsuccessful Tinder dates/hookups. When Michael interrupts one such date, this has all the makings for a wonderfully, sexy rom-com. Except that’s not what we get. Things take a decidedly darker turn and the Whitney G world as we’ve always known it is shot to smithereens. And holy heck, was it wild and exhilarating!

    This kept me turning pages as fast as I could. Being the first of a trilogy, it’s very short but rich with twists and turns as it drops little nuggets along the way. The next book is to release pretty soon, I believe. So I’m doing my hardest to be patient, but that cliffhanger doesn’t help any. I want book 2, Queen of Lies and I want it now!

    Wow! Honestly, Whitney G. will always be one of my forever faves. Her writing is impeccable and always flows amazing well. The very first book of hers I've read was the first installment of Reasonable Doubt and I was hooked...

    Empire of Lies trilogy has a more darker theme to it than her other books and though this was not the norm i am accustomed to with Whitney, she delivers tremendously well, always makes you want to turn the page, find out what is going to happen.. I honestly devour her books so fast.... she always hooks me in.

    This book is the perfect intro to the series, giving us a lot of heat, a heck of a lot of intrigue and mystery but also, Whitney's signature style of writing that pulls you in.

    I don't want to give any specifics on the story itself because I want readers to experience this with no sneak peek into it so they get the full effect of this. Honestly, love love love her first delve into the darker stories and would love to see more of this.

    Again, this is a trilogy so there are two other books after but it is so worth the read!!!

    The cliff hanger was right out of left field and perfect. Even though this story is a little short and a quick read the storyline is one that is well written and thought out.

    I really like the way the plot progresses. The opening scene is in the present and the story takes you from the present to the past then back to the present time seamlessly.

    I can't wait to read the second part of this book. 5 well deserved stars. I honestly wish i could give more definitely read more books from this author. Brilliant!!!!

    I immediately loved the cover! Suited men are always great.

    Now the story. It is very different to what I normally think of when I think of Whitney G and her books. But you what? I enjoyed it. There were quite a few twists and surprises in the story. Michael was a mysterious individual who seems to have many secrets. He was my favourite character. Meredith wasn't a bad character but I did find her irritating in places. I think this had to do with her naivety and her ability to constantly choose the wrong men. I understand that loss has coloured her world but there comes a time when you need to set that aside and pick yourself up. Everyone seems to be hiding things and Meredith is the only one out of the loop. In that regard, I felt bad for her. She's been dragging into something her doesn't understand and has no way of finding out the truth. I'm looking forward to reading Queen of Lies next to see how the rest of the story unravels.
