Love to Hate You: A small town, enemies to lovers romantic comedy perfect for fans of Elsie Silver and Lyla Sage (The One) Kindle Edition
'It is a romcom full of wit, charm, sexual chemistry and brains' Laura Carter
Goodbye New York! Hello… Cowboy?
If Samantha’s Baker’s life were as simple as one of the movies she produces, when she – a latte-loving city girl - gets banished to the country and fights with the local hunk cowboy soon afterwards they’d fall in love. But everyone knows the movies aren’t real life! (And just FYI, Mr Cowboy, it’s not gonna happen!)
Travis Hunt knows what it’s like to miss the city. He’s given up everything to take over the family ranch and become mayor of Emerald Creek. He has responsibilities. But how does he convince a gorgeous, hot-shot executive like Samantha to swap her stilettos for cowboy boots and her Friday night cocktails for country dance competitions? Small town life just can’t compete with all the hustle and bustle of New York City.
But what if it’s not where you are that you call home… What if it’s who you find while you’re there?
An opposites attract, enemies-to-lovers rom-com perfect for fans of Sarah Adams and Mhairi McFarlane

About the author

Camilla is an engineer who left science behind to enter the whimsical realm of romantic fiction.
She writes contemporary rom-coms. Her characters have big hearts, might be a little stubborn at times, and love to banter with each other. Every story she pens has a guaranteed HEA that will make your heart beat faster. Unless you're a vampire, of course.
Camilla is a cat lover, coffee addict, and shoe hoarder. Besides writing, she loves reading—duh!—cooking, watching bad TV, and going to the movies—popcorn, please. She's a bit of a foodie, nothing too serious. A keen traveler, Camilla knows mosquitoes play a role in the ecosystem, and she doesn't want to starve all those frog princes out there, but she could really live without them.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2025It starts with a battle of wills, goes on to flirting and attraction, and ends up with love. Fun story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2024When I first started this book and actually well into about the first half, I thought it was silly and I almost quit reading. I am glad I kept reading though because I ended up really enjoying the story. It’s a cute story and has a well thought out and happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2023This is such a cute book!
I love that they work together and they don't break up over some stupid reason!
They work together and try to figure out how they can work their relationship out despite their circumstances.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2024I’ve read so many Camilla Isley books, but this one was truly amazing! The characters were very likable and original!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2023A great love story about the problems when the two main characters live in a geographical great distance from each other. All the characters were very enjoyable and very likable.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024When Samantha Baker's boss orders her to a rustic small town in Indiana, the New Yorker is horrified. But there's a movie to be made, it's behind schedule, and Sam is just the person to get things done. Part of the reason for the delays is the town's mayor, who is a wealthy and successful New York lawyer who returned home to help his widowed mother run her ranch. And become the mayor. Travis extorts Sam's film-making company for town improvements in order to stop log-jamming the necessary permits, but it's all in good fun. As the attraction turns into something more, Sam comes to love the town and its people, but her job is in New York, so it's an impossible situation.
Other readers have said the book wraps up too fast, but I think that was fine. I do think Travis could have had more depth, like a flaw that would make him more realistic.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2023My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Summary: The last thing Samantha Baker needs is to be shipped off from New York to middle of nowhere Indiana to figure out why their film is getting so delayed. She loves everything about New York, and what is there to Indiana anyway. Apparently, a cowboy mayor who is wickedly attractive who is determined to slow down production unless she plays ball. Liking him isn't a good idea, not when he's the reason her film is delayed and since she's determined to go back to New York as fast as she can.
General Thoughts: Second Camilla Isley book I've read. I've really enjoyed both, but this one was super cute. This had major Hallmark vibes (big city girl goes to small town and is attracted to the cowboy mayor.) It's a simple, predictable plot, but it's well done. I liked the characters of Travis and Samantha. They weren't extremely fleshed out with a ton of backstory or growth, but they weren't flat either and had interesting banter. It was a cute, fun, lighthearted romance that is bingeable in one sitting. If you're looking for an intense, thought-provoking read, this is not that. If you're looking for a Hallmark-like book or 2000's romcom, this one has you covered. The plot is quite simple, but it's a cute, fun read. I'm excited to read another one by this author soon. I enjoy sweet fade-to-black romances, and that's what this one is. I received a review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thanks Netgalley.
Steam Meter: This is a closed door, fade to black, but definitely some hints of steam.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2024Love to Hate You is a re-titled Sweet Love and Country Roads by Camilla Isley and her new publisher. It is a funny enemies-to-lovers opposites-attract romance that could easily be made into a Hallmark movie. While Love to Hate You can be read as a stand-alone, it is the final book in the First Comes Love series.
We were introduced to the heroine, movie producer Samantha Baker, in The Love Theorem. The story begins with Samantha Baker being summoned to the head of Denouement Studios’ office in New York City to be informed that she must travel to rural Indiana immediately because the movie Sweet Love and Country Roads, of which she is the executive producer, is bleeding money. If she cannot get the movie completed within 3 months, the film will be axed and she will be unemployed.
Samantha and her capable assistant, Celia, travel to Emerald Creek, Indiana, where Samantha is a fish-out-of-water. She meets a handsome rancher/cowboy when a cow blocks the road on the way to their bed-and-breakfast, Sagebrush Ranch. Travis, the cowboy, happens to be the single attorney son of the B&B owner, Willette Hunt. Willette is a Paula Deen-type hostess and radiates hospitality to Samantha and Celia. Samantha has hilarious encounters with various animals.
On the movie set, Samantha discovers that filming delays are due to the Chief Location Manager’s inability to obtain permits from the Mayor’s office. Samantha fires him and visits the Mayor’s office herself. She discovers that Travis is actually Mayor Theodor Abraham Hunt. He extorts promises from her to make costly repairs to the filming locations in exchange for the signed permits. Samantha convinces Lionel, the film’s director, to film scenes out of sequence to allow them time to make the necessary repairs. She engages Lana, the heroine from The Love Theorem, to coordinate volunteer efforts to clean up the city’s beaches. Lana’s husband, Christian Slade, is the lead actor in the movie Sweet Love and Country Roads.
Camilla Isley consistently writes smart take-charge heroines who are very likeable, including Samantha Baker. There are plenty of comedic moments, and the reader gets a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaking. There are love scenes, but there’s no graphic sex. I love this story and its bonus epilogue. Readers will enjoy Love to Hate You more if they have previously read The Love Theorem, but it’s not necessary to follow the story. Definitely highly recommended!
