Manners & Mannerisms Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 282 ratings

Everyone in Highley eagerly anticipates the arrival of Reginald Abernathy, the new master of Albon Manor. Everyone, that is, except Lord William Bascomb. William knows he’ll be expected to woo Reginald’s sister, and he can't summon the interest for it. But when the Abernathys arrive at last, William discovers he’s interested after all—in Reginald. Reginald is the most handsome, most dashing, most intriguing man he’s ever known. Better yet, he seems to share William's preference for men.

The addition of the Abernathys to Highley suits everyone. William’s sister adores Reginald’s, Aunt Harriet foresees many happy matches between the two families, William’s sister-in-law is pleased at the prospect of unloading her penniless relatives at last, and all the eligible ladies in Highley want the man who only has eyes for William.

Against a backdrop of elegant balls and frolicking picnics, William and Reginald enjoy furtive moments of ecstasy until a scandal erupts, forcing William to choose between Reginald and the only life he’s ever known.

See how many matches Aunt Harriet can make in this low-angst, warm and fuzzy Jane Austen-inspired M/M Regency romance.

Tanya Chris brought me so many emotions with this book. I love how she’s able to do that and this was a hard-hitting one. There was a complexity to the story and yet the overall message desperately needed to be heard.

The character development was superb. Every bit of it made me feel like I knew the characters fully. This included secondary characters. It didn’t matter if it was a character I fell in love with or one who made me angry, it all was executed perfectly. Historical romance is not a genre I normally read, however Tanya Chris’ world building pulled me in and never let go. It kept me thoroughly hooked.

The plotline was excellent. There was so much there that it really provided a phenomenal read. The complexity and dynamic of the relationships resonated deeply with me. I especially loved how the author showcased how difficult it was and the different experience levels. I’d recommend this book to those who don’t typically read historical romance because this is worth every captivating moment.

5 stars for a dynamic and engaging read!

This was a sweet story. I’m new to m/m historical romance reading. I’ve long loved historical romance and mostly limit myself to m/m romance lately so this was an exciting find. It was a good story. The characters were sweet and the plot interesting. If you are a stickler for historical accuracy and period details, you may have an issue as the author did take creative liberties...it wasn’t a detractor for me. Overall, a good story.

I enjoy Tanya Chris's writing. And I enjoyed this story for the most part. It was just a bit too silly on occassion. William was so utterly unaware of anyone else that it felt like the story dragged as it was glaringly obvious what the "solution" for everyone would be, meanwhile William somehow never got it. Also the pairing so perfectly of two siblings coming to America and matching so perfectly with siblings in England? That felt very "let's just make everything perfect because it's fiction." It's farfetched. Although the MCs in this book are dealing with something incredibly difficult during that time (same sex love), they didn't have to struggle at all. Everything worked out so perfectly it basically felt like present day.

I love MM and particularly MM historical. And I appreciate when the story accounts for the real difficulty faced by gay lovers. And the way they ultimately have to get creative to live together in a way that is "married." It adds to the realism. But this book made things fit so perfect and so easy that it was so clearly fake. I was rolling my eyes more than sighing happily for the characters on occassion.

But, all that said, it was a fun historical. I enjoyed the writing and most of the story so I say read it. Embrace the sugar. Enjoy it.

It's sugary sweet, doesn't have the realism and depth of a KJ Charles, let's say. But still, good.

This book was everything I could have asked for in a historical MM romance! The prose was written in a way that kept with the time period - both the narrative and speech. The world building was done in such a way that seemed natural, answering all the questions a reader might have without seeming to be forced.

The love story between the main characters came across as both sweet and genuine, and the ending wrapped up everything in a perfect HEA ❤️

I enjoy a historical m/m novel done well, and I think the author did a nice job balancing the historical social challenges along with the romance itself ... satisfying ending, sweet HEA for more than one character, especially the extra bonus wedding.♥️ Recommended.

I couldn't make it through a single Jane Austen book, but I loved Manners and Mannerisms. Each character has their own quirks and character, from William and Reginald to matchmaking Aunt Harriet and even the horses. The love story was a believable slow burn with realistic plot twists bringing William and Reginald together, and then trying to pull them apart. No matter what time period, Tanya's characters are always worth following to the happily ever after.

I felt like reading something different and gave this Author a shot.
I liked the time period and characters. It was a bit slow to start but picked up in the middle and was satisfying going forward.

    Happy for the numerous HEA's

Although, this is nothing like the dime-a-dozen bodicerippers flowing from publishers willy-nilly. This sweet but steamy MM, with reference to FF and the entire LGBTQ spectrum, is well and thoughtfully written, and portrays all the usual Regency Society gossip and fun that is so loved in this romance genre. If you like Regency romance and representative writing, this is a the perfect blend and a definite must-read.

...it was a slow burn, but that time was well spent learning about believable, likeable characters, that I found myself genuinely invested in. The slow burn ends up being pretty hot too and is all the hotter for taking its time to get there! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

The characters are fine with a nice county setting with manors and lords. But for me, the story drags on a lot. I couldn't keep up. The cover is sweet like the MCs. Hence the 2 stars.

I loved Jane Austen's books but I didn't realize how much more interesting they would become if there was the opportunity of couples of the same sex. I love how innocent William is. I would love to read more about their lifes.

5.0 out of 5 stars It’s not surprising but is an absolute delight
Reviewed in Canada on April 25, 2020
This romance is very much in the vein of a Jane Austen book, William reminding me exceedingly of Elinor Dashwood in temperament, and quite firmly at the mercy of insipid sister in law Isabella (Fanny Dashwood through and through). All the main characters are lovely, Reginald, Catherine and Susan are so delightful, and William so sweet that you can occasionally forgive him for being utterly blind to the people in his life, and their potential motives.

The steam factor is pretty high, but if that is not your cup of tea, you can certainly give those scenes a miss, just check in again after the climax, as it were.

The resolution is a bit obvious, but it is truly the journey that makes it all so enjoyable.

A very enjoyable historical m/m and f/f romance, reminiscent of Jane Austin’s touch. All the characters were likeable except, of course, cheap, snippy Isabelle. We had love blooming in all directions and in all the manors rooms, including the broom closet!
