Such a good listen
The way that I love a good mafia romance and this one did not disappoint. There was this insane sexual tension between Lucian and Violet that I just couldn't get enough of. That fact that this was an arranged marriage and Lucian himself was the one to arrange it was captivating. What you'll get: - Dark mafia - Arranged marriage - Lots of tension - DARK - SPICE When the spice hit on this one, it was intense and I was so here for it! A big thank you to MLA and Trisha for the ALC. I absolutely devoured it.

    This book was dark and angsty without being overbearingly so, I heard someone on TT ask for a lite dark romance rec and I think that’s a perfect description for this.

    The mob and mafia have distinctly sinister intentions in this story and the FMC was trying desperately to carve her own life following her passion to become a Prima Ballerina. The battle between them all was epic.

    The smut was hot and spice was spicing, with a few hand necklaces, a bit of 🔪, and lots of unaliving.

    Can be read as a stand-alone. Contains some common elements with previous stories surrounding town, warehouse and The Ruin consortium. This contains scenes stereotypical of the mafia genre. If sensitive, please read the following before purchasing.

    ⛔️ Contains references or detailed scenes with multiple topics that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, a couple of adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, restraints and violence with kidnapping, abduction, threatening, assassinations, stalking, torture, consensual / non-consensual acts, murder, assault, fighting, betrayal, theft, human trafficking, drug distribution, illegal gun running, gambling, attempted rape, etc.

    There are some grammatical issues, primarily incorrect tense, missing and extra inserted words. I am trying to make sure I mention these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

    I wish there was more in common between the stories in the Underworld Kings besides basically the town name and a former Butchers warehouse owned by The Ruin. It would be nice if there was some continuity in the name of the Bratva, mafia, the DA, Police Chief in the town, etc.

    Violet is the sheltered, often forgotten daughter of the Italian mafia Consigliere. She was just named the Principal dancer for the New York Ballet Company, something she has dedicated her life to date to achieving. Violet just finished losing herself in her solo performance. As she goes to her dressing room to change, a man enters, verifies her identity, binds her mouth, hands and blind folds her eyes before he throws her into a trunk. She tries to keep track of the time and turns she has been in the trunk, but quickly loses track.

    When they finally arrive, she is removed from the trunk, dragged into a room and dropped in front a man. Her blind fold is removed and she continues to look up at him almost in shock, despite being told not to. It isn’t long until her father, Salvatore, is dragged into the room by a couple of men. Neither Violet nor Salvatore recognize the dark, tattooed man, even though it is apparent very quickly he has watched them for years.

    Lucian Cross has lived for this moment, worked and slaved for this moment for years. Ever since he was branded, scarred, and left for dead by Salvatore and his brother, the head of the Italian mafia. Thanks to them his entire family was killed, everyone but him, but Lucian will utilize the skills that gave him the nickname of “madman” for his skills in torture and interrogation to avenge his family and rid the world of the Carpetti name. Before that though he will put the pieces into play to garner an alliance with them and resurrect the Irish mafia.

    Now to twist the screws, get Salvatore’s signature on the marriage contract for his “beloved” daughter, then he just has to somehow manage not to kill her before they say their marriage vows in 2 months …

    The themes include, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage scenario, emotional & physical abuse, minor blood play, and a lot of Stockholm's syndrome. The writing has so many rhetorical devices on every page to try turn something dark and depraved into poetry. The male POV doesn't feel very masculine, given that Lucian is supposed to be so brutal and dark. And on top of that, if Lucian hates her family so much, the kindness he immediately offered her makes no sense. And, him falling in love with her without any insight into how also makes no sense. I'm mixed because something about this gothic poetic steamy romance kept me engaged. I felt so confused throughout the book about he hero, the heroine, and their journey to love. But, there was SOMETHING endearing about them, and the action scenes were very well written. This one isn't for everyone, I can tell you that. But, ultimately I didn't hate it.

    I loved this book I only rated 4 stars because I feel like I’m not sure how they built a relationship on nothing. They barely say anything to each other ever. They are just around each other all the time so I guess that’s how they learned things about each other? Idk there was just disconnect in the building of the relationship for me. Other than that I did really enjoy the book.

    This was probably one of the most sensual with so much sexual tension books I have read in a long time. Lucian, love the name, and violet, love that name too, just two dynamic characters who have such passionate feelings and strong loyalty. These two are meant for one another and when they finally come too, my heart rejoiced!
    Side note, this book was a little brutal. I cringed at some parts! It was very descriptive and made you feel apart of that scene.
    One complaint, I really wanted an epilogue! I liked these characters so much that I wanted a little more! I can't say what I would have liked to see because spoiler but...maybe I can imagine something in my mind.
