The Matchmaker and the Cowboy (Windsong Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 148 ratings

Callie Carmichael has a gift for making bridesmaid dresses—some even call them magical. Somehow, every person who’s worn one of her dresses has found love. Real love. And as long as that happily-ever-after is for someone else, Callie is happy. Because she’s fully over getting her heart broken…which is why her new roommate is definitely going to be a problem.

After being overseas for six months, Callie’s only choice is to stay with her best friend’s ridiculously hot brother, Hunter Owens. Cowboy, troublemaker, and right now, the town’s most coveted bachelor. Only, Hunter isn’t
quite the player she thought. And if it weren’t for her whole “no more love” thing, their setup could get confusing really fast.

Now, Hunter wants Callie to make him a best man suit—a “lucky for love” kind of suit. But what happens if she makes the suit and he finds true love…and it isn't her?

Callie moves back to town only to realize her family has left for a few months. When her best friend's brother gets hurt and needs someone to take care of him Callie volunteers. Hunter can't believe that his crush is helping to take care of him. Then Callie and Hunter find out they are both competing for Windsong Ambassador. Hunter helps Callie with some of the challenges. Callie lets her guard down and realizes that Hunter is a good guy and very thoughtful. Hunter realizes that he said too much and Callie realizes that she is his crush. Loved how Callie's Maid of Honor dresses brought good luck to the wearers. This was a great book and I can't wait to read more in the series!

Another brilliant story by one of my favs. I absolutely loved Hunter who has a heart of gold and totally hot stuff. He is at the top of list of my fav book heroes. Callie is gorgeous in spirit and the way she deals with her life. Together they absolutely sizzle. All of the characters are heartwarming and loads of fun. The story was so entertaining to read and I couldn’t put the book down. A story I will definitely be rereading. Highly recommended

It’s all about the journey. It is formulaic but so well handled the reader will still want to know how the inevitable gets managed. Hunter Owens is the “most eligible bachelor” of the small town of Windsong. He loves to flirt but his heart only belongs to one person: Callie Carmichael. He has loved her seemingly forever. After volunteering in Africa to teach women how to sew, Callie returns home. What she finds is that her family have gone off on another rescue mission with no thoughts of her return. Where will she stay? At the same time an event turns Hunter’s world topsy turvy requiring that he have help. Ahh! A solution. Callie will stay with Hunter helping him during his recuperation. Feelings become pronounced but poor Callie cannot bring herself to believe that anyone would love her that way. After a life of always being a second thought to her own family, she’s skeptical. In this story Callie is her own worst enemy to a happy ending.
This was a well-written story. The blurb gives you the twist that makes this story magical, but reading it will fill in the blanks. Callie is a strong character with self-doubts while Hunter is a self-assured almost 30yo man who wants to marry Callie. Can he convince her that she’s worth his love and affection? I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Entangled/NetGalley.

I received an arc of The Matchmaker and the Cowboy by Robin Bielman from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This is the second book in the Windsong series. I did not read the first book but I didn’t have any trouble being immersed into the plot of this one as each book is a standalone. I have read several of Robin’s books over the years and this one, like all the others, was a delight to read.

The story features Callie Carmichael and Hunter Owens. Callie has been best friends with Hunter’s sister Nova for many years. Hunter has secretly been in love with Callie since he first met her. Callie has never been close with Hunter due to misunderstandings. As the book opens, Callie has returned to town from a humanitarian trip to Africa to learn her parents and sister are away also on a mission trip but the house is torn up for remodeling so she has nowhere to stay. Immediately she learns that Hunter was bit by a black widow spider and needs someone to stay with him for awhile. She moves into his place and the two start becoming better acquainted.

Callie makes bridesmaid dresses and her special feature is that she adds “magic” to the maid of honor dresses with a little butterfly appliqué. Six of the ladies who wore her designs have gotten engaged. She works on the dresses at Hunter’s house since she’s homeless. She is working on Hunter’s brother’s fiancé’s wedding party.

Both Hunter and Callie have confidence issues. Callie’s stems from her parents and sister constantly leaving her alone. They also have been married and divorced a couple times and that turns her off marriage. Hunter is the youngest of 3 boys and he doesn’t feel he stands out. The towns people see him as the most eligible bachelor and all the women swoon over him. He just wants to settle down and get married to his soulmate, hopefully Callie. The two spend a lot of time together while she’s taking care of him and after she moves into a rental cottage, they still hang out together with his family. Callie finally gives into her desire for him but then struggles with her feelings as she stubbornly continues to say she’s never getting married.

The book is wonderfully written and the characters are genuinely nice and down to earth. I enjoyed the various relationships Callie and Hunter have with his family and some of the townspeople, as well as with each other. It is a very romantic story with a lovely HEA. I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars.

This one was okay for me. The writing flowed well, my issue was more with the characters. Hunter was a good guy, but I like my heroes to be more assertive. Callie was super annoying. She knew going in that Hunter liked her and wanted more than a hookup. She did it anyway, and then got upset when he confessed his feelings for her. Hunter did everything right, constantly proved that he was a good guy, but Callie still pushed him away. It annoys me to no end when characters punish new love interests because of the crappy things people have done in the past. The "will they or won't they" lasted all the way up to like 94% of the book. The way Callie's issues were suddenly cleared up after one conversation with her sister was silly IMO. Like I said Hunter proved himself time and again, but her sister apologizing suddenly made Callie okay? I did enjoy the setting and the family from this one. I love a small town romance, and this book does that well. Jenna was cute and a sweet side character. Birdy was hilarious and I like her relationship with Callie. Although I wasn't a huge fan of this one, I did like the writing style. This was a first for me from this author, but I would read her again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
