Mayor May Not: The ABCs of Spellcraft Book 11 Kindle Edition
Uncle Fonzo has always been cagey about what his duties as Hand of the Penn family actually entail. Dixon figures they mainly involve playing poker with other middle-aged Scriveners, while Yuri suspects there are semi-legal dealings under the poker table as well.
Whatever his typical responsibilities might be, Fonzo’s got his hands full with a new grandchild on the way. So when he’s tasked by the head of circuit to find Pinyin Bay’s next mayor, he passes on the burden—er, opportunity—to his favorite nephew.
No problem! Dixon doesn’t know much about Handless politics, but he’s sure he’s acquainted with plenty of folks who’d make a fine public official (meaning, someone who won’t obstruct Scrivener interests.) But when he and Yuri get to know the potential candidates a bit better, they discover each one is stranger than the last.
Can the boys find a Scrivener-friendly mayor before time runs out? Or will the worst possible candidate in Pinyin Bay win simply by default?
The ABCs of Spellcraft is a series filled with bad jokes and good magic, where M/M romance meets paranormal cozy. A perky hero, a brooding love interest, and delightfully twisty-turny stories that never end up quite where you’d expect.

About the author

Author and artist Jordan Castillo Price writes paranormal adventures colored by her time in the Midwest, from inner city Chicago, to various cities across southern Wisconsin. She’s settled in a 1910 Cape Cod near Lake Michigan with tons of character and a plethora of bizarre spiders. Any disembodied noises, she’s decided, will be blamed on the ice maker.
Jordan is best known as the author of the PsyCop series, an unfolding tale of paranormal mystery and suspense starring Victor Bayne, a gay medium who's plagued by ghostly visitations. And her quirky, sweet, magical series The ABCs of Spellcraft is sure to make you smile.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2022It’s good to find things that appeal to you. Yuri & Dixon’s ongoing shenanigans are one of those things for me. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book with the issue of Sabina’s pregnancy. But Sabina was still Sabina throughout, & as she tried to hold the baby in to give them the name she wanted to give them (no spoilers here) I found that I still loved her & all her tacky, somewhat violent, no-nonsense but her nonsense glory. & Yuri & Dixon just keep getting better! I absolutely love them together. & I think what finally happens with the kee-poo is right on & perfect. This book made me happy. Maybe it will make you happy too?
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2022Once again, a fun book! More previous characters making reappearances, all with the signature uniqueness of characters in these books. This book also brings some changes to the Penn family, definitely paving the way for more shenanigans in future stories!
I enjoyed the audiobook, narrated by Nick Hudson. Further thoughts on the audio can be found in my review for Book 1 or The ABCs of Spellcraft Collection Volume 1, 2, or 3.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2021This was one of my favorite books in the entire series because the character development and story arc is really fantastic! Dixon and Yuri's relationship kept me rollicking with laughter from Book 1 and several familiar faces pop up in Mayor May Not. While Dixon and Yuri have been given the huge responsibility of finding Pinyin Bay's next Mayor, the Penn and Shirque families come together with Sabina and Vano's new baby ushering in a new generation of Spellcrafters. While Dixon and Yuri are scouting out mayoral candidates, the rest of the families have to find a mysterious ki-poo to become the next Hand. There are also a lot of hilarious and fun pregnancy/impending birth moments that really cracked me up. Readers will love some surprises that come along the way and the ending just left me with a well-satisfied sigh of happiness. I can't wait to read the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2021For a short story, there was a lot of action packed in this episode!
Lots going on with Pinyin Bay; hot dog eating contests, banana repurposing, and don't forget the wet wipes!
Appreciated the alternative uses for a tennis racket, and learned a new term called 'Freganism'. I'll never look at dog biscuits and overripe fruit the same way again ☺
I do admit to struggling with a doctor that goes by the name of Dr. 'Slaughter', though. And don't get me started on 'Hand-jobs'! *snicker
Love this family and enjoyed the sweet ending. Pinyin Bay is looking at an interesting future! As always, enjoyable escapism with my two favorite people, Yuri and Dixon.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2021This series continues to be such a bright spot. There's enough at stake to keep me turning pages, then literally laughing out loud at something completely ridiculous. The humor in these books surprises you after a long build-up you didn't see coming. And the plot twists in this story kept surprising me too. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the endings in this book were happier than I ever thought possible.
In a world that has become harrowing at times, a wacky, wonderful read like this is just the thing to take you away to a happy place that will keep a smile on your face long after you read the last page.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2021This series is just fun! The characters are well developed and real 'characters'!
The dialog is well written and I was left wishing that it would go on forever. It would make a great series of films or a TV series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2021I love the whole series and an expected baby has the family rallying to provide in their own inimitable style.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021This wonderful book is another fun ride with the Penn and Shirque families. It was high entertainment watching Dixon's parents go full-throttle in their attempt to find the 'kee-poo' to become the family's next 'Hand.' The banana exchange was a hoot, and the various Spellcrafter traditions surrounding childbirth. from the crazy (and mostly useless) gifts to the tradition of 'porching,' had me in stitches. And I chuckled right along with Dixon every time someone talked about the 'Hand'-jobs. In the end, the Spellcraft always knows best, and everything works out in everyone's best interests (although it surely works in mysterious ways and takes the crookedest path to get there).
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm happy!!!
Whenever a new Spellcraft book is up for pre-order, it's a no-brainer for me. I don't even have to read the blurb, I just know I'm in for a fabulous book. Mayor May Not is no exception. It's fabulous and fun, it's got Yuri and Dixon and I always have a smile on my face. Yuri and Dixon never fail to make me happy.
