Thalia S. A. is a young author, who was born in Manchester, England. She loved being read aloud to when she was a baby. She has developed a great passion for reading, apparently even chewing and eating corners of her board books at around six months old. Thalia’s mum discovered that she could read at the age of three, when she was reading out loud, the title of Peppa Pig series on the television (perhaps too many words from the board books had been digested into her tummy, LOL).

​Growing up in Warwickshire, Thalia is an avid reader and has won many drawing and writing competitions. She has been awarded by her school for consistently being a positive role model, extremely polite and a fabulous reader! Some of her writings were published in anthologies alongside thousands of children from all over the United Kingdom by Young Writers and Young Author Academy.

Determined to aspire others through her books, Thalia inherits writing talents from her mother, who was once a young author (and also the partner illustrator for her first children fiction, Mermaid Lagoon), her late grandfather Jamaludin D., who was a prolific poet and her grandmother, Ramsiyah Amir who is an author. All of which come from Malaysia.

Fresh new adventure.
5 stars. Wonderful adventure chapter book. Amazingly, this book was written by a 10 year old, with an obvious bright future in writing. The book is 176 pages, divided into 10 chapters of easy, breezy reading. The book has a nice flow to it. This book is an excellent choice for young readers advanced beyond picture books. The tale involves 4 girls, a special school, mermaids, a mystery, and lots of magical events. What more could you ask for? Avid readers will gobble this up in one sitting. A fresh adventure, from a bright young author. Be sure to check this one out.

    The author skillfully draws the reader in, taking them on an incredible adventure.
    The story celebrates friendship, perseverance, determination, diligence, ingenuity, creativity, conservation, imagination, trust and of course the triumph of good over evil.     A beautiful book, which brings together everything young readers might look for: mermaids, a school in the middle of the ocean, and an intriguing mystery. What’s even more interesting is that this story full of wonder was written by a talented young girl, when she was only ten years old. Let’s dive in!

    I felt honored to read a book written by such a talented, young writer! Thalia has created a story that draws the reader in from the first page, adding plenty of twists and turns to keep us engaged.
    What is the story about? The middle-grade novel focuses on the adventures of a young girl called Lilly. She loves the ocean, even though she has never seen one. However, this is all about to change, with her life taking a whole different turn. One night, Lilly will have a magical dream, with a mysterious voice asking for her help. A mermaid needs her...

    Lilly wakes up, wondering whether the dream was real or if it was just a figment of her imagination. Because, you see, she loves books, which feed her imagination, very much like a spring feeds a river. Not long after that, Lilly will meet some great friends and they will embark together on the adventure of their lifetime, joining a school called the Ocean Academy. This special school is located right in the middle of the ocean, which is quite exciting!

    Lilly and her friends will find themselves caught in a mysterious quest, putting all of their efforts into tracking a legendary object. The main goal? Saving the seas and the world beneath it! Will they find what they are looking for? And how will they figure out who is trying to stop them? It’s all in the book, you just have to read it.

    That was such an incredible story, full of wonder, mystery and secrets, exactly as the author described it. Unlike other middle grade novels, Mermaid Lagoon was written by a young girl for readers of similar age. The story speaks naturally to the readership, and I am certain kids will fall in love with it.

    I can’t wait for my daughter to grow up and read this wonderful story. It will be a precious keepsake, and I will no doubt smile remembering the young girl who has found the courage to put words on paper. Thalia is an avid reader and her love for books is clearly reflected in her writing. Her story is imaginative and brilliantly-descriptive – without any effort, she makes you feel like you are right there in the story. She has even added touches of humor, which make the whole reading experience even more worthwhile.

    These are some of the strong points worth mentioning about the Mermaid Lagoon:
    - The story invites the reader to join a magical universe, full of adventure and excitement
    - Readers will definitely want to join the girls in unraveling the mystery, tracking the clues along them and trying to locate the legendary artefacts
    - Just like all the great stories, there is a sneaky spy that tries to ruin the girls’ plans – this makes the story even more interesting
    - A female heroine at the center, who saves the day through courage and determination – what’s not to like? The story in itself can be used to strike an important conversation on the things we can do to protect our oceans and keep them clean
    - Cool illustrations/drawings done by the author, with a bit of help from her mom – and a fun bonus at the end: a delicious cupcake recipe for you to try (read the story to see how it relates to it)

    This is the perfect read for lovers of middle-grade novels! A wonderful story full of mystery and secrets, with a determined female heroine who will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of things.

    Skip to the end of the book for a delightful cupcake recipe and nibble on one (or two) while reading!

    Full of imagination, this young author sends four girls on an adventure of a lifetime. Surrounded by mystery and magical events, children will look forward to their time reading. There are twists and turns and even a school in the middle of the ocean that will keep the pages turning.

    Congratulations Thalia on a well written story, one I highly recommend.

    My 9 years old really enjoyed reading this book. At first she wasn't so sure about the book by just looking at the title (she loves Harry potter sort of books), but after she read a few pages she couldn't stop reading it! She said the story is very interesting! The book is written by a young author who is not much old than my own, how inspiring! In fact, my daughter started writing her own story in a note book after reading this book, what a bonus 😀
